Sony PS3 Slim turns up at Florida Best Buy

What do we have here, you ask? Why, it's the Sony PS3 Slim, and it's available for purchase at this here Best Buy in Brandon, Florida -- a full day before Amazon ships ours. And you said you'd never go back to Brandon! A reader picked one up along with Arkham Asylum, and was good enough to share his haul with us (and with the world) via the Twitter. If you're in the area, you might want to make a quick trip out to the box store before the global PS3 Slim shortage hits. More photographic evidence after the break.

Best Buy on the West side of Madison, Wi currenty has 16 slims in stock. They are in back warehouse so you need to ask a sales person for one.
I just got mine and it came with version 2.80 (no sparkly background yet). FYI. It's a lot quieter than its fat friend. (PS3 fatty)

I live in Columbia, MD and I too got a PS3 Slim from my local best buy around noon today. What's weird is none of the cashiers or customer service reps knew they were on the shelves there were shocked to see me holding one when I got to the register.
lol, i answered my own question. 50 units at Mira Mesa (San Diego) Best Buy, i just picked one up, few other people were doing the same.
Just grabbed one from bestbuy in north Dartmouth, mass. Looked like they'll go quick. Picked up King Kong with jack black in Blu Ray for good measure- great taste in movies, EH?

PS3 Slim is a FAIL!
I just picked mine up at the Best Buy in Dublin, CA. I plugged it in, and in the first five minutes the internal fan ramped up three times. Right now it's as loud as my XBox 360 with both sitting at idle. I'm talking identical fan noise levels.
I'm not saying this thing is crazy loud, but I was looking for something quiet, meaning I can barely hear the thing. You can clearly hear this fan chugging away across the room.
I'm not sure if it matters, but the fan is moving out very hot air, almost blow-dryer hot. The ambient room temperature is 69 degrees.
The only reason I was interested in the PS3 Slim was for reduced noise, and in that regard, the PS3 doesn't cut it.
Looks like I'm sticking with my 360.

So basically you were looking for some peace and quite? Why not read a book or something? I hear the noise levels on those are almost non existent and dispense no heat.

Anyone who has a ps3 slim... Can you please tell me if it overheats..or if it a lot emits a lot of heat? Sorta like the ps2 slim did.. I hated it because it would overheat quickly and sometimes even lag game play...So this if this is true its a deal breaker for me. If it does overheat I'm going for the older ps3.
As I posted above, I picked up a Slim about two hours ago and started it up at home.
Yes, the unit blows out very hot air. Like I said above, it's pretty close to a hair-dryer kind of heat.
My room was at 69 degrees, and the Slim's fan went up three notches in the first five minutes.
It's loud to me, but it's probably not loud to most people.
I'm not a hardware engineer, so there's no way for me to know, but it just seems impossible to me that with the amount of intense heat coming out of the Slim, that it could operate that hot and not break down eventually.
This was all going on in a room that was 69 degrees. Just imagine how hot the Slim is going to get when it's 80 degrees in my room, which happens sometimes during heat waves.
And don't blame the messenger! I'm just telling the truth as I see it. I'm sure most people will like the Slim just fine. But for me, if it's just as loud as the 360, why do I need a PS3 Slim?
Why are you crying about my post? Stop being a girl and just accept the truth, because if the PS3 Slim I picked up is like all the others, you're going to be hearing a lot more about it in the next few days.
Why is it that when someone criticizes one console, that means he's a fanboy of the "other" console.
I've been happy with my 360 except that the fan noise is really loud for a measly game console. I had heard the PS3 was going to be quieter, but now I've found out that's not the case. What's so hard to accept about that?

Went to the local Blue Balls to pick up Batman with the deal they have going on, and, lo, not only Slims, but just as many of the new little black boxes as their bloated 80GB cousins sitting around. 12 to 12.

Got mine. Thnx for the tip, was on my way to return a PDPD-S320 anyways.
This is a better upgrade from PS3 v1 - becasue of the audio output and lower power draw. End of story for me.
Now why the F did they not include a IR receiver in it, again is beyond me.

still, my other ps3 took a dive on me.. no more.
getting a standard blu ray player and that's that.
all i ever did on it was watched blu ray, only like 30 movies then the laser died.
crappy.
i'll stick with my 360.
