Sony teases Daily Edition Reader, announcement imminent
We're actually about to head out the door for a Sony Reader announcement of some sort, and this "Daily Edition" device that just popped up on Sony's "Words Move Me" site sure seems like a prime candidate. Is Sony trying to mix in a bit of the Kindle's wireless-based up-to-date-ness at long last? We'll find out in about an hour.

Meh...
mmmm... DX competitor perhaps?
yeah...
Daily newspapers?
Seems a bit bigger, likely enough for a 9.7" screen. And yeah, I agree that "Daily" is very likely a hint for some sort of wireless access for newspaper downloads etc...
Looking forward to this, because Sony is actually aware of markets other than the US, unlike Amazon...
is that an FCC symbol on the back?
Meh is so 2008, the new meh is........................not responding, I guess I'm so 2007.
I just don't see these (more or less) single purpose, grayscale devices as being worth the money.
Is it really THAT much "easier on the eyes" than a quality LCD? I read text on a computer screen all day long, and don't get headaches or anything. Am I in the minority, or something?
So do I, but I think the big deal about these gadgets is days without charging. Super low power + no paper = green
E-Ink will display whatever it displays with little to no power. It only uses power when it changes what its displaying. Also, whens the last time you read a paperback that had color in it? The majority of a news paper is b&w also. I don't need colored text.
Yes, it's that much easier.
Also, it reads better than an LCD outside, or on a plane or bus.
Plus, it's a smaller form factor than a laptop, and you turn the pages much less than on a PDA or iPhone.
It's a pill
R.I.P. Kindle
For those of us that travel.. a lot... this is about weight, size and battery life. I fly over 200,000 miles a year. I am gone at times for 3 or 4 weeks. 10-36 hour flights at times. I can't carry all the reading material I would go through during that time. Not all international flights get power to the seats. A laptop simply would not have the battery power to make it through. I carry over 100 books and RSS news feeds on my e-book. It weighs ounces. And lasts for several full books before needing a recharge. The wireless features don't appeal to me. Being charged for free news feeds can add up in a hurry. I can pop the SD card into my laptop whenever I am connected and download everything I need quickly. To me, an e-book is a great tool for travel.
Content is an issue for many people. Kindle has the Amazon store locked up. But Mobi Pocket has been around forever with great selection. Being owned by Amazon is a convert. But for now, it is still very easy to get the latest titles through Mobi Pocket. My Cybook 3 handles all this with ease. I'll have to see what Sony brings to the table other than name.
That "pocket edition" doesn't look like it fits in a pocket to me.
