Sony's Andrew House hints at more social networking for PS3
PlayStation Home not "social" enough for you? Fret not PS3 users (or soon-to-be PS3 users), 'cause Sony Computer Entertainment Europe head Andrew House has recently dropped a not so subtle hint that some more traditional social network features are on their way to the console. While he obviously didn't get too specific, House did tell the Financial Times that Sony has plans for more social networking features, and apparently wouldn't rule out a partnership with "popular sites such as Facebook," much like Microsoft has already announced for the Xbox 360. In PS3 price-cut news, House also noted that Sony is indeed aware that "consumers are watching their euros and pounds more carefully than before," but added that "it would not be fair to say this is a reaction to current market conditions."[Via Joystiq]

I just want to play moar games on mah gaming consoles. Not social network :(
But you can already access Facebook on the PS3 House.
Someone tell the dude in the picture that he's not Colbert.
Home is social if you socialize with dudes pretending to be girls while glitching in the air doing running man.
Someone tell Colbert that he's not House.
@reisa
over in one
Someone tell House he's not Cavuto or Colbert.
PS3 needs a Hulu native App! And Hulu, if you're looking for a way to monetize yourself, keep SD (with ads) free and charge for SD and higher for HD with no ads. With this why would anyone want to be continued to be gouged by cable companies? Its a REVENUE NO BRAINIER!!!
PS It could also force the cable companies to provide that "long awaited ala cart service" ;^/...
Someone tell House it might be Lupus -- the results are always lulzy.
Frankenstein Black, Hulu did run naively on the PS3 until Hulu actively blocked it. There's not much Sony can do, short of going to court.
How about Sony's Andrew House hints at Netflix streaming for the PS3 instead? I have a computer if I want to access Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Linked-in, etc and find it unnecessary to be able to do that on my ps3.
The irony in your comment is startling.
I completely agree with you. Give us something useful like netflix streaming
Myspace is full of glitches, adds, viruses, sex offenders and ghetto ppl....why would anyone want to use that?....I just don't understand kids
well mark, I for one don't like watching movies sitting in my computer chair on a smallish monitor when i can watch it on a larger TV.
@Grammar Delinquent: Well I for one don't like looking at my friends' profiles sitting in my computer chair on a smallish monitor when I can see it on a larger TV. (Note: I don't use any social websites like these and don't particularly care about this functionality. I also can see the greater benefit of Netflix over social websites being incorporated into a game console, but nevertheless enjoy myself some irony)
what do you mean by "Ghetto people"?
If you have a computer, go to themediamall.com and do the 15 day trial of PlayOn. Then you will have Hulu, Netflix, CBS, ESPN, Youtube and others out of the box and plugins for things like SyFy and Adult Swim.
Eh. I got my computer for social networking. An app would be accepted however.
27/m/OKC pics on pro/msg me!
oh boy! just what! I want 13 year old boys comparing e-peen sizes like on the xbx360 network.
Don't get me wrong, online gaming can be fun (mostly when played with real life friends).
But, personally, not that I play online that much (on my ps3), I have been mostly enjoying the "silence" of the psn network...sure there is a downside (less strategizing) but seriously, unless you are playing with friends how often do you actually do this (other then Team Fortress 2...which for some reason seems to attract less trolls then any other online game). 90% of the chatter you hear on the 360(and most PC games) is "OH YOU SUCK, GTFO YOU N00B LEARN TO PLAY, OMG YOU SUCK SO BAD JUST GO KILL YOURSELF"
I don't need to socialize when playing games, I just need to frag.
If it bothers you that much just mute everyone...
Can someone tell me what Mark wrote? I have him set to redact.
OMG I really hate idiots like that...man I just wish I could see the dude in real life...I bet is nothing like the nerd we all imagine...this "new kind of nerds" aren't overweight and full of acne...instead they are low life kids who do nothing but stare at the computer all day while refreshing the forum page to bash about the latest halo game
well mark if you have seen steam, and the social commenting system, people tend to post on eachothers boards all the time...this isn't just about in game play, if you have a social network, this would include stupid things like home pages, clan (*shutter*) pages, and all that BS. It's bad enough all the random friend requests I get on PSN everyone in awhile when i play a game and suddenly the entire room wants to "be my friend". Add a social network aspect and instantly you get the losers who have to have 10,000 friends and send you a request every minute. On top of that you have to deal with wall posts, spam messages, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. I don't want to make friends when I play games (as I said before) I just want to play games, then return to my normal life.
Thats what you hear when you play Halo3 online, COD4 is a bit more civil and if not you can mute anyone in the game, or better yet start your own party and keep your chat open for your party and ignore everyone else in the game.
Use private/Party chat. Problem solved. You will never have to listen to another little kid again.
When did the Subway Guy Start working for Sony?
Since the PS3 ships with a tabbed web browser, you can already get your 'friend fix' via Twitter, Fatebook et al should you really wish. You've been able to since it launched...so I'm unsure as to what more is perceived necessary here.
I suspect they are working on something a little more integrated than going to the web site but it's nice to know I can look after my farm from the comfort of my sofa.
Please, less social networking and more media options such as Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon's marketplace without external software needed.
GAMES.
A House does not a Home make.
The psp browser is better, the ps3 browser can play most embedded videos. However the lack of ram causes it to crash, and some sites like Engadget don't display right. An app interface would be better, or another browser.
yea I dont understand WHY they dont make the PS3 use Virtual RAM on the HDD if the space is there
Here the problem: Sony already have a partnersship with Netflix for there Blu-Ray players. Now what they need to is bring that to PS3 and get a partnership with Hulu or Joost...
Must be the new models of blu-ray players that have Netflix because what I saw at Best Buy just only 2 days ago Samsung and LG had Netflix, Sony didnt.
I havent seen it in their Blu-ray players but I have heard about it coming to their TVs...
How about fix your Online Store with larger fonts, larger thumbnails and a faster way to navigate through that mess first?
Too little , too late
Social networking is the most overhyped thing of this decade.
