ASUS uBooms its way into portable speaker market
The world of mobile speakers is a quirky one, to say the least. That ASUS would want a taste of that funny water may be surprising, but not altogether crazy. What is crazy here is the size of these "portable" audio appendages. The 24-Watt uBoom (pictured) is a 3kg behemoth measuring nearly 60cm (23.6 inches) across and positively swallowing up whatever notebook you care to plop into it. That's not to say it's inconvenient, maybe you like exercise. On the other hand, the uBoom Q is about half the size and sips power from the USB connection, but then it only pumps out 2.4 Watts. Check out both after the break.

The first image is so very unflattering. The speakers do look much better in the images posted after the break.
Imagine this beast hanging off a netbook XD
choice, can't wait to use these @ my local starbucks.
Thats NOT speakers, thats the asus 250 cell battery. It gives you 2 weeks of power.
I like ASUS and all, but it will be some time before I consider them a viable speaker option, such as Altec Lansing, Bose, or possible Logitech for my PC speaker needs.
Lol, great list there :D
If your such the audiophile, then what brands do you suggest? Or are you trying to be smart and immature about my choices? Either way I enjoy the sound fromt those brands, for PC SPEAKERS. When you get to home theatre, choices may differ. Its all based your budget and quality of sound you want.
YORX for the win!
creative t10
80hz response w/ no sub
under $50 bucks
perfect for non-home-theater use
"eewwww" is one thing that comes to mind..
Better looking things have come out of my bottom !!!
Your boyfriend?
.... oh come on, it was too easy! You've gotta appreciate that one.
Why?
Do we really have to make it easier for idiots to annoy people in public?
Come on, that thing doesn't look portable at nearly 2' and 6lbs but would work just fine for a larger laptop pulling duty as a desktop replacement.
Still, I opted for a 2.1 speaker system for my desk, but if the sound is good enough I could reduce some clutter this.
Read the article again. There are two versions, the second one is half the size.
yes and at 2.4 watts it is about as powerful as my built in speakers. True they are more powerful then the ones on my little eee so for some they might more annoying, but idiots will be idiots, you cant help it.
Can they make this uglier?
What a turd of a design. I just picked up a tiny X-Mini 2 which most likely sounds way better than this will.
How do you find the XMini?
bdav:
You go to a store, IRL or online and then you either search/look around for it or ask an employee.
They should have added an extra battery in there so you could charge your laptop off it when docked.
It turns your laptop into a rice rocket!
Does that include air-con ?
Looks like a space gadget of some kind.
Heh, portable.
who needs headphones...
I'm going to boom box it on my shoulder's 80s style!
ps: Vladslav, thank you for saying: "portable"
