Sanyo releases LP-XU106, the brightest projector under 4 kilograms

Sanyo's just announced a new projector, the LP-XU106. The projector weighs in at 3.4 kilograms, making it what the company calls the brightest projector in its weight class. And it is pretty bright -- at 4,500 lumens and a contrast ratio of 1,000:1. It also boasts Sanyo's "Easy Setup Function" to help out the projecting novices. The LP-XU106 will be available on November 20th, but there's no word on pricing as of yet. We'll keep you posted on that one.

I am too, the brightest in my weight category... :)
It's good there aren't many 800 pounders, huh?
And that's the point... ;)
Cool, now the bulbs can burn out faster.
The 275 watt bulb should have a life of around 2000 hours. That's almost a few years of movies, if you watch one every single day.
Great, now with my Less Than 4 Kg projector and Less Than 100 Kg generator, I truly have portable projection wherever I want it.
Why is weight relevant? Does anyone really care about the weight of their desktop computer?
No, specially because at 4Kg is not portable anyway, unless Sanyo will also include a mule in the package.
On the other handside 4500 lumens is pretty bright for any home beamer in any weight bracket
(I love the word "bracket").
I always wondered how many lumens would be necessary to see clearly a movie in full daylight, like I can see it on my Kouro.
5000? 10.000? 10 millions?
@Plexus: I wonder this too. What good projectors are there out there that will be bright, HD, and still have good blacks?
You really dont need that much. I usually run mine at the lowest light setting, but I also am usually only home at night to watch it. I have however tested its bright modes. The projector is rated at 2k lumens and on the max settings it is definitely bright enough for daytime usage. However corporate ratings of lumens and contrast really mean absolutely nothing, it has to be compared to real world tests.
The only failure for a projector is that no matter how bright it is, if there is direct light on the screen its going to go to crap anyway, as long as the sunlight is indirect it doesnt matter much
4kg is about 9lbs.
Not that it's pocket-sized, but it certainly portable. I can carry my projector (it has a handy carrying case) to a friend's house, or to the pub, or anywhere within reach of an extension cord that I'd like to see a 100"+ screen...
Is it also the lightest over 4,500 lumens?
Right on the read link - 575,400 yen, there's yer pricing!
did a yen --> USD conversion, 6,104.07 USD

The "auto keystone correction" feature is pretty cool!
Wow, great post, telling us the weight but not the resolution.
The spec sheet says 1024x768.
I just like that you listed the weight in metric. Keep it up, please.
