Time Warner's TV Everywhere trials to start... sometime
It's been over a month since Comcast and Time Warner announced their TV Everywhere internet video service, and while we've seen some impressive content deals get made since then, there hasn't been much word on how the service will work, or even when it'll launch. That's starting to slowly change today, as Time Warner's announced that 5,000 lucky customers in "select markets" will be involved in a trial that's starting "over the next few months." No word yet on how much this'll cost or what extra shows or movies you might be able to get, but at least it's something -- and if Time Warner or Comcast need any extra help testing this out, we know a few people who'll be more than willing to help.

It seems like one needs to distinguish between Time Warner and Time Warner Cable here, as I'm kind of confused...
Time Warner & Comcast are the two biggest cable companies in America, and their footprints do not overlap (you can't choose between cable companies in any given area). So they're basically partners in cable's battle against Satellite / Fios / whatever else is out there.
that's Time Warner, the content company. Time Warner Cable was spun-off some time ago, but they still use the Time Warner name under license by Time Warner (Warner Music Group is also a former Time Warner company using the Warner name under license).
in summary, this should be going to comcast subscribers, not twc subscribers
or errr...what???
10 bucks says they charge at least $19.99 extra per month for this shit, and that it's nowhere even near true 480p, as far as quality is concerned.
What WOULD interest me would be a completely a la carte system that allows you to pick and choose which channels and/or shows you pay for. OR internet based services that don't require you to also buy their cable TV.
Until then, there's mininova for my shows, and OTA HD for sports.
I see T:SCC!! =D
I keep replaying in my mind the old adage:
"Fool me once, shame on you...Fool me twice shame on me."
I think I'll pass on anything Comcast is involved with.
Does Time Warner even have enough bandwidth to spare for this sort of thing?
I can't wait to try it out on TWC.
"5,000 lucky customers in "select markets" will be involved"
so its more like TV Everywhere (eventually), for now its just TV Somewhere (i.e. not here)
More like inevitable. Comcast and Time Warner know that the days of pushing out channels are numbered. People want what they want, when they want it, and that system works very well for anything other than a live event. This is basically the beginnings of conceding that fact.
Well at least we now know how they will attempt to get away with bandwidth caps again. Time Warner doesnt mind streaming video and bandwidth usage as long as they get to be the toll booth.
Too bad their internet service sucks. So you wouldn't be able to watch it anyway.
Crap everywhere...
I already have TV everywhere. It's called Hulu.
If there's something you can guarantee, it's that if Time Warner is involved it's going to a) suck technically and b) cost you more than it's worth.
