Laptop Battery Express' external battery works with 10,000 laptop models, just not yours
If you're toting a new laptop with non-removable battery then you've got an obvious problem: it will run out of juice, likely at the moment you need it most. That's Murphy's law. Fortunately, a number of vendors have started to introduce these external battery packs designed exclusively for laptops. The practically named Universal External Laptop Battery from Laptop Battery Express ships with enough interchangeable tips to provide an extra 4 hours (rated at 66Wh) of power to thousands of laptops from just about any of the big-boy brands you can think of. There's even a USB port for topping-off your cellphone or portable media player. Unfortunately, the most notorious fixed-battery laptop, the MacBook Pro, is not supported. Ah well, that's just more business for Hypermac, eh? One more glamor-shot after the break.

That'd be because Apple have patented the Magsafe connector, then...
there are external batteries for mac using the magsafe connector. I don't know if apple has a patent on it but the facts are that some battery manufacturers do use it.
Apple doesn't allow other companies to just use the magsafe connection. What the guys who support it have to do is buy an Apple adaptor and cut off the magsafe to use.
It's costs so much and only a few people have Macs, so most don't bother.
If you're referring the the law "everything that can go wrong, will go wrong" as Murphy's Law, it's actually Finagles Law. Common mistake, but it's okay..I'm here :)
@cjwild
To be clear, it is Murphy's Law. "Anything that can go wrong, will [go wrong]."
Finagle's Law is a corollary to Murphy's Law that adds "...at the worst possible time, in the worst possible way."
Just FYI, no worries :)
@Rob
Then the info I have received is false. Damn you "3000+ Awesome Facts" App!!!!! MOTHA FUCKA!!!
You gotta pay Apple to use it. Sadly, Apple like being too different.
Most windows laptops have removable batteries... This would be good to have if you don't want to have to hybernate your laptop so that when you swap your batteries, you don't have to close all open applications and shut down. It'd also be nice for my iphone, but I already have a portable USB battery for that. (Damn those non-removable batteries!)
They probably buy the airplane adapter and cut the end off as I will...
I've never seen a place where I could plug in an airplane adapter. Do these magical, power providing planes really exist?
Air Canada has standard AC power ports in every seat in biz class, and every other seat in cattle class.
From: http://www.aircanada.com/en/about/media/facts/products/exec_na.html
"Personal Communication System
* Laptop power port available on select seats on some Boeing 767-300, A321, A319 & A320 (adaptor may be needed).
* Embraer 175/190: In-seat power (1 outlet per 2 seats)."
I have not flown US carriers in a while, but I am pretty sure that there are a number that have some sort of power port. Maybe you needs to stop flying ultra low cost carriers if you want power.
I remember seeing somewhere a battery that fit in the normal battery bay of a laptop and also had a plug, so you could plug it into the port for the ac adapter, and swap batteries, without turning off the laptop.
The world really revolves around Apple at Applengadget.
Apple laptops only constitute about 5% of the market, so just who is this "yours"?
pretty sure apple holds a bit more than 5% of the market when it comes to notebooks with non-removable batteries
And fortunately those people are used to paying an absurd premium to be inconvenienced... obv they were also responsible for the comment system
you should be happy then because your getting the Apple experience for free.
There are people in China that have to pay for this kind of inconvenience...
This looks pretty damned good - this way, you wouldn't have to get a separate charger for a second battery (or swap out the battery while working to get the second one charged), but just charge that thing directly. Now make one that's as big as a suitcase and will power my laptop for two days straight. :)
Engadget, your english is going downhill, lately. Or is it sleep deprivation? A number of vendor?
@Aditya, you beat me to it. The panda says no!
Li-ion batteries are not completely safe, there are thousand of cases where these batteries exploded and hurt people. Sometimes I get scared of carrying a cellphone/working on my laptop.
So is crossing the street. I heard cases where people were hit by cars when crossing and they just...died.
So let me get this: If Apple makes anything run on a battery they make the battery unmovable? How stupid. If battery dies you are sol if you own an Apple.
At last a windows base laprop you can replace the battery if needed.
It also doesn't work with Dell XPSs, according to the user manual.
Why is this news? There are a ton of these on the market, and have been for many years.
Murphy's law likewise holds that if you buy this battery you will likely never need it.
Same rule applies to automotive jumper cables.
I want one that puts out 3.6v so I can use it with my digital camera.
Nothing new! Also known as A.C. Ryan MobiliT Universal External Battery since 2007.
Got reviewed in January 2008 alot. e.g.:

After reading the post more closely, you could say that the correct statement would have been "That's Finagle's Law." (as Murphy's Law does not explicitly include the element of time and severity). It would be more accurate, however more obscure and probably missed by most.
ya think I may be over analyzing this... where's my coffee.
There's connector for that.
Failed joke I know :D
One thing people miss when it comes to non-swappable batteries - it makes it harder to just toss them in the trash.
If you have to get the battery replaced by a service center, the odds are near 100% the battery is recycled properly. And there's nothing wrong with that.
And... you have to pay shipping, as well as Apple's high prices for the battery. I'd prefer being able to swap out batteries and replace batteries w/out sending the laptop in, as well as being able to use 3rd party batteries... Much cheaper. And if I really cared enough to recycle the battery properly, I could do so without paying Apple :)
good battery,Can it replace any laptop batteries? I always go to http://laptopsbattery.us ,so I can go there.
That's a cool a device but i prefer an extra laptop battery. Its more comfortable to have another laptop battery than that coz u need a cable with compatible socket. what if i don't have that socket, its useless. Was it cheaper or more expensive than a regular replacement laptop battery....?
i alway do trust this company http://www.goodlaptopbattery.co.uk offering my laptop battery good quality and best servies!
