The fine folks at
GameSpot called around in San Francisco to find that many of their local GameStops and Best Buys have been selling the PS3 Slim, but some have already sold out of their first shipments. Our own calls to a few New York GameStops showed that they'd sold out of their first shipments as well (so much for that September 1 ship date, huh?) and were expecting their next shipment early next week. We also know plenty of folks who've had no trouble
scoring one online, but who knows how long that supply will last. How about you, any luck tracking down this not-so-elusive console? Personally, we're still waiting on the go-ahead from our main man

Sony is going all backwards on this machine except for a better CPU, removing PS2 capabilities on this machine just like the new 80 gig and the 160, come on Sony, why kill the dreams of enjoying PS2 games being played on a PS3 for ppl out there, unless you just want ppl to spend more money and buying a PS2 systems ( oh that's so wrong ). I'm glad I purchased a 60gig when I had the chance, cause to me there's better PS2 games then there is PS3 games in my book.
Sometimes you have to dump the old crap to get the next gen to sell higher. I think SONY is realizing that PS2 support is a bad idea when you have PS3 on the market. lol
mines shipped two days ago will get it on the 31st.

saw a big stack of them at the Future Shop here in Toronto, Canada. I was all "oh that's the new PS3 Slim… meh." and then kept walking.
If Sony is still losing money making the PS3 hardware, and If MSFT wants to retain the all coveted #2 spot in Consoles sold, they should Buy any and all PS3 they can get their hands on and do a "Will it Blend" type of thing to them. The long term cost increasing MSFT's market penetration while Reducing Sony's Market may offset the upfront purchase costs. No PS3 penetration, no game demand, no cash flow in, no business, no competition(?). Pretty much kick-em while they're down at #3.
I have a 60 GB PS3... which is the best model. Why would I want a slimz? .. ohh sony if only u kept all the features.. who would want to buy a slim now? LOL... it doesn't even give you the option to install linux anymore.. (Not that I even have yet on my 60gb ps3.. but its nice to have it as a option! lol )
If Sony is smart, they better stop churning out the slim and fast. saturate it while it's still fresh on people's mind.

I think it's quite funny my Wal-Mart and every other electronics store nearby has these things, and usually when we get it at wally world it won't let us sell it until the street date, but these are cleared for sale! What's the point of a release date just to say well they'll trickle in before this date, but they'll be here for sure on this day everywhere.

In the last year on my Xbox all I have got is Trials HD GTA Lost & the Damned will not be paying 40 for live 1 vs 100 my ass.
Anyone living in Washington state, I just came back from the Bestbuy in Bellingham on Meridian Way and they have the Slim on the entrance and there is some of them stacked up like a little wall there. Bought Leopard as I already have a PS3 and I can just purchase a 120GB HDD and call a phat, ahahaha.

that sucks dude, i was the first to get one at my best buy, apparently the employees didnt even know they had it in stock but they found them in the back and brought one out for me
I'm interested... But not interested enough to jump on the launch.
Maybe around Christmas I'll get back into PS3. For now, I'm happy with my 360 and gaming PC.
Even if I get one, it will probably just be a Blu-Ray player, and play my other media. I can't imagine getting games on PS3 when they're also available on 360... And the Sony exclusives never really grab me.
Anyway, I hope the guys who got them enjoy them; That's the goal, isn't it? Having fun?
Has anyone seen the brown boxes these things ship in? There's one orange label stating that it can't be sold until Sept. 1, and then there's another sticker saying something to the effect of "Street date does not apply to this product." Is that Sony's way of manufacturing a shortage? You know, let everybody sell them for a week ahead of the actual launch to let the first shipments dry out by September. Perhaps?
Honestly, I don't care much about the PS3, fat or slim.
It's overpriced, and if my only excuse to buy one is to use as a BluRay player, that's a lousy excuse.
I can find better standalone units for cheaper.
I know I wont ever use it as a game console.

Saw plenty of them in the store, but I'm not buying one (quite yet).
my original 20Gb full BC all black phat PS3 yellow lighted the day before sony announced the PS3 Slim. I will be buying a slim because it uses up to 70% less power then my 1st gen console and runs cooler and quieter. I also will benefit from having bravia sync work now with my 52" bravia and having true DTS HD and Dolby TrueHD now bitstream direct from my PS3 Slim. The original consoles were awesome, but the new one is awesome in a different way. The new price point will be very popular this holiday season.
