Sony's newest digiframe sports Swarovski crystals, little else
We're not sure if Sony is looking to combine the timeless elegance of precision-cut lead crystal glass with the utility of a digiframe, or if some Swarovski elements just fell off the back of a truck or something, but if you're looking for a way to display your precious moments to the world we got just the thing for you here. The newest in the S-Frame line, the DPF-D72N/BQ features a 7-inch 16:10 LCD display with WVGA (800 x 480) resolution, one gigabyte storage capacity, auto-resizing for images, USB connectivity, support for memory cards (including Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick PRO Duo, SD, MMC, Compact Flash, xD-Picture Cards, and SDHC), an accelerometer, a wall mount, and support for JPEG and RAW (SRF, SR2, ARW) files. Sure, we think that any alleged "class" imbued by Mr. Swarovski's crystals is more than offset by that large Sony logo plastered on the front of the thing, but perhaps you feel differently. If so, look for this guy in October for $150.

w00t. I'm not gonna buy.
What a waste of electricity.
I have no idea why companies work so hard on designing a nice looking product just to screw it up with their logo. (I, for one, am impressed with the tasteful use of Swarovski, which is usefully as tastefully used as glitter.) If people like the product, it is completely natural to inquire as to where it was purchased and other info needed for purchase, e.g., manufacturer.
In other words, Swarovski crystals were more tastefully implemented than the Sony's logo.
But I suppose my opinion is less important as I'm not into their "premium products."
If it's like any other Sony picture frame you can turn the logo off. It's likely lit-up in a similar fashion to the logos on some of Sony's (and other's) TVs.
I think they had branding in mind w/ the logo.
The ice, imo, is a distraction that also 'cheapens' the frame.
I know how you feel. I hate that every elegant Apple product is marred by a image of a half-eaten piece of fruit.
I'm sorry but I actually don't understand the digital photo-frame craze... I actually prefer multiple normal photo-frames than a digital one that changes every 15 seconds or so...
Get with the times girlfriend, it's 2009, we need to waste electricity and lithium chemicals for meaningless electronics.
Forget the Sony digiframes. Get the Samsung instead. The Samsung frames connect to your PC and can function as an auxiliary monitor. Great for watching TV or movies while you "work".
Considering Canon has the largest DSLR market share, how can you not support the .CR2 format of RAW?
Umm...yeah. I like it RAW too.
Sony's logo doesn't look THAT bad on there.
why does a digital photo frame need an accelerometer?
To rotate the image when the frame is changed from landscape to portrait and vice versa.
It's an 'orientation sensor' not an accelerometer. Same thing that many digital cameras have to tag photos taken in a portrait orientation and auto rotate them on a landscape oriented screen to playback correctly. Some DSLRs also use them to change the orientation of the status displays on their LCDs to match the camera's portrait orientation.
Just because the iPhone's accelerometer gives you the same function--automatically adjusting from landscape to portrait orientation and vice versa, doesn't mean everything that does that has an accelerometer. Engadget's writers need to get out more.
The Sony logo is backlit and can be turned off.
What's with the Swarovsky these days? I've seen quite a few companies charge premium for putting Swarovsky stones on their products, from USB keys to now this.
This is pretty cool though: http://gizmodo.com/5342363/terrifying-t+600-usb-drive-has-rhinestone-eyes-of-doom
