Twitter and Facebook for Xbox Live will be free for Gold members, 'free trial' for Silver
This shouldn't really come as too much of a surprise, but anyone wanting to enjoy Twitter and Facebook on Xbox Live will have to pony up for Gold member subscription, the same premium prerequisite currently needed for Netflix Instant Watch and pretty much all online gaming. Silver membership will be given a "free trial," but exactly what limitations that entails, or if they'll be an option to "upgrade" to the full version, is anyone's guess.

I own a PS3(day one purchase) and 360.............Own a 360 first(day one) LIVE was a great experience and has open my eyes to online gaming......Many people says PS3 online gaming is tacked on....Will I pay nothing to play with friends.....I pay nothing to access FB/Tweeter.......I pay nothing to access all Demos online and on time.......I just do not get why people do not give the PS3 credit....Now the slim is $299.00 that is one helluva deal for what you get. Right now 360 has had no GAMES this year and the trend will continue until Natel........comes out next year....and by then PS3 flagships titles will be shipping along with motion controls....GOWIII....KZ3....Syphon Filter......RRFOM3......FF.....and whatever surprises Sony has....
xbox 360 has Forza 3 coming out along with new splinter cell, halo 3 ODST, so I dont know where you are saying that 360 has no good exclusives coming out before natal.
microsoft under mr ballmer leadership just created a new low, even for themselves.
I play 32 and 60 player servers for FREE.. Hmmm let me pay $$$ so I can play in smaller rooms than that.. Ahhhhh No thanx
well when Sony comes out with their social networking for the PS3 maybe they will have to reconsider their strategy. In Sept you will also be able to do game launching to any game from Home (which is also free along with PSN).
Microsoft seems somewhat ungrateful considering they don't even have a browser and you have to pay.
Wow, I can't believe they make you pay for Twitter and facebook.... Xbox sucks. Sony should run a smear campaign against xbox and let the idiots know that the ps3 slim is a WAY better value (cause it is).
I just read it was a mistake, and it will actually be free.
"The belief stems from a footnote in this morning’s announcement of a price cut for the Xbox 360 Elite console which stated: “Xbox Live Gold Membership will be required for Twitter and Facebook when they are available.”
However, a Microsoft spokesperson told MCV that the information is “incorrect” and that the firm “is still formulating its plans” for Xbox 360’s upcoming social network integration."

@SkoGoody
i consider myself a person that uses his xbox alot... and i still have the 20 gig hd that came with my launch xbox and i havent purchased any new hard drive of any sorts...nor do i give a crap about paying 50 dollars a year to use xbox live, if you hate microsoft, then ANYTHING they do will make you mad, or hate them more.
now i used to game a bit on a pc... but from when i used to you always needed some other software to have any sort of friend list, or always had to have aim open to talk to people.. the xbox live service is seemless, you can fire it up... get a party of 8 people... BS with each other while you each do something else, i can watch any of my netflix instant movies (alot in HD) and have access to buying a pretty hefty handful of decent games, soon can update facebook if i wanted to, and have streaming radio... i can also stream my xm using windows media player... as well as many other things... why complain? i could see if you paid 50 dollars a year to get the same sort of online "play" you get when you buy a pc, hook it up to the internet and go play *insert hip pc game here* or when you fire up a PS3, but you dont... theres no way to disagree that xbox live is a better service, so why complain about paying for it ?
PS3 with 2 re-chargeable controllers, Wireless Web Browser, Free Playstation Network, Blu-Ray player... $299.00 (previously $399.00)
X-BOX 360 with 1 controller (not rechargeable), NO Built in web browser (99.00 add on) X-Box Live $50.00 per yer for Gold, NO Blu-Ray.
Microsoft = FAIL!!!!!!!!. 360 Users unite and move away from the dark side! When you come over, look me up on COD4, I'll blast you in the FACE!
on xbox live you dont have to "look someone up" on COD
Blast people in the face with no voice chat no team skill no nothing. PSN is a joke you stupid idiot. I swear Sony fanboys are stupider than Nintendo fanboys. You are already paying for Live your stupid fucks are acting like they raised the price.
LMAO PSN is a JOKE Sony will never catch up. They will be last until this generation is over. Stupid idiots, they are selling a Movie PS3 bundle LOLOLOLOLOLOL! what a joke.
I don't know if it's going to happen or not but I wouldn't be surprised if it did happen as Microsoft will charge extra for things that are free to everyone else such as...
- Last FM
- Twitter
- Facebook
- Online Gaming
Now all of these things are available to the PC,PS3 & even to some extent on the Wii for free yet everyone that pay's for XBL is OK with this. Microsoft Charges for DLC that is free for the PC sometimes and yea people complain but they still pay. We as gamers are allowing this to happen by paying for these things. If we don't stop this now other companies may follow Microsoft's lead and it is a bad example if you ask me.
Also I know that XBL allows for Cross Game Chat & Cross Game Invites which will eventually come to the PS3 & will still be free unless Microsoft has somehow patented it and if that's the case that sucks. I am glad Microsoft isn't in charge of the Air we breath because if they did I am sure they would charge for that too.
You are absolute right brian.
Just check out my post to XBOX forums and what people are saying about it...

Love this. Free trial for Silver users? BLAAH! Nothing. Micro$oft couldnt care less as they have enough fools to test functionalities and those people are also willing to pay for that privilege as well... feckin eejits...
