So much for secrecy. South African Xbox 360 distributor Comztek has told local gaming news site XboxGaming.co.za that the a 250GB "Super Elite" model is due there in October. Additionally, the
Forza 3 bundle we saw
heading to Germany is also en route to SA, retailing for R4,999 (US $646), or around the same price as the Elite before its recent
global price cut. South African retailer
BT Games has apparently also posted a flier in honor of the launch (pictured), offering a R500 discount on the Super Elite (non-
Forza 3 bundle, presumably) with the trade-in of a slimline PlayStation 2, totaling R4,199 (US $541) post-discount, or a 120GB Elite for R2,999 after the same trade-in rebate. Let's hope the folks in Redmond have as much of a sense of humor about leaks
as Sony does.

I did a double-take when I first saw those prices.
Me too... lol
Prices here in South Africa are generally super expensive when converted to dollars. It really sucks :'(
so that $646 will probably be like $400 in the US.
"Retailing for R4,999 (US $646)", for that price i might find a launch ps3 60gb.
do you think it's a good deal? idk
At first sight it does look like a ripoff, but then the hard disk is not the only difference. They add another controller too.
I think the HDMI cable too.
i bought the ps3 slim already and wondering to buy a xbox 360...... i could see "no hdmi"
throw in a blu-ray player and you've got a deal
Must of used Prawn technology to get those extra gigabytes in that HDD.
Then no human could use it, except of course the occasional hybrid!
must *have*. Did you actually go to school?
You began your sentence without a capital letter. Preposterous!
That's a lot of rand! But I'd still take one :-)
Bold statement. Bigger hard drive and a extra controller no cable listed for R4,999 (US $646), you must Microsoft, even for a launch ps3 600 to me would be more than enough, this is too much. IMO.
It would be nice if it came with some kind of redemption codes to download 1 Tv Show, one movie, and one Xbox Live Arcade title.
This is the 2nd time in as many days that Engadget can't read the prices from an XBOX ad. The price is 4699 (with a trade-in), NOT 4999. Really, how hard is it to read?
After reading the article 4 times, it is possible a Forza bundle may be R4999, and the ad is for the non-Forza bundle. If that is the case, then I apologize my my statement - but it could have been made more clear.
Uh no.. the price is 4199 with trade-in. Maybe you should learn to read before bashing them for not being able to read.
Yeah, and WITHOUT trade-in it is 4699, not 4999. You idiot.
@David
From Engadget's portion of the article: "... en route to SA, retailing for R4,999 ..." The ad says that the price is R4699 if not trading in a PS2. I wrote a (possible) correction as the Engadget article is a bit confusing, stating that the bundle will have Forza 3 (a product not yet available) at R4999, but the ad does not say anything about Forza, and the "Super Elite", if shipping now, will not have Forza 3 in the box if it has not yet shipped. On the other hand, if nothing has been officially announced, where did they get a price tag of R4999 for a 360 SE with Forza 3?
Engadget also did the same yesterday in the article where the new price of the Elite was announced, but had listed the price completely wrong.
Uh your correction is still wrong.
Where am I wrong? The ad says that the price is R4199 with a trade in, R4699 without a trade in. The Engadget article says the price is R4999 with a Forza bundle, but since Forza has not been released yet (along with the 360 SE), how they found a R4999 price is beyond me.
But I can admit to when I could possibly be wrong - can you do the same?
As stated in the article, the R4,999 figure for the Forza 3 bundle comes from the Comztek-cited report, whereas in the next few sentences we transition to the pictured flier from BT Games, a separate source that has a bundle available for R4,699 (R4,1999 after rebate). I've added some wording to help clarify this more.
You said "The price is 4699 (with a trade-in),". That's incorrect... your latest post, is correct.
$5k?
You just seriously ask that?
There _are_ other countries and currencies in the world then the US and USD.
Randall, I want to make you post go white!
Everyone press the minus button! Oh, they all already did....
Super Elite? I sure hope thats not what their calling it in US/Europe - sounds like some sort of reject 80s console or kirf ripoff
or a new Halo character?
Super Elite....
Name = Lame
what's next "the ultra slim 360 super elite xbox live wireless HD marketplace edition" with extra nubs???
And people scoffed at names like Wii (which was a comic moment)
what self respecting hard core gamer is going to say "oh, how lame, you only have the elite, I have the super elite".. Or to pseudo quote Zoolander "you can superelite my balls"
/end comedy skit
I just can't wait until the WiiNii comes out. The public will go wild!
Aww, my gamertag is superelite
I wouldn't worry about it too much - it's either a regional thing or they're just bundling parts together on their own.
I'm waiting for the next one. You know, the Super Duper 360 Elite edition.
Seriously, could they be any more creative?!?
When you trade in your PS2, the price increases? Anyway, why would they have PS2 in a Microsoft ad?
1. The price doesn't increase - the price at the top (2999.95) is the 120gb model, the large print price at the bottom (4199.95) is the 250gb version with an extra controller and hdmi cable when you trade for a ps2 slim and the small font price at the bottom (4699.95) is the 250gb price without the ps2 slim - is it that hard to fully read the advert?
2. This is not a microsoft advert but an advert from a retailer - there is obviously a decent demand for used ps2 slims and so the company can make even more profit and boost their used ps2 slim stocks at the same time by offering this deal (they sell the ps2 slim for more than the discount offered).
Doesn't "Super Elite" kind of defeat the purpose of elite? Especially after getting rid of the Pro?
They're going for the MAD HAX edition.
This hard drive is still too small. Why oh why can't we just buy a nice 500 gig Seagate and put it in the case? MS still makes money from the case, and doesn't have to warranty the drive. Seems to make sense to me.
Because MS is being reactionary with this "Super Elite". Sony is offering a 160gig PS3 for 400. Well MS will offer a 250 gig 360 for 400. Really their line is just designed to face PS3 and its versions. I hope though PS3 becomes more of a challange to 360 position. This will lead to MS scaling back prices on certain things. Like maybe HD's? MS only lower prices when they face stiff competition.
Do they make money on the case? Or are they still losing money on each one, or maybe they are now not losing money, just making up the money they already lost.
Yeah seriously! i agree because the hard drive itself is not THAT expensive to jack up the prices that much... all it is is a notebook drive in some weird formatting
They are still ripping us off on storage costs. That and only 250 GB? How they expect to really make any money on downloads when they limit you in such a way. I'm on my 4th xbox and the DVD drive is now dead, of course out of warranty. I refuse to give the Redmond bastards any more money until they provide reasonable system specs at a reasonable price.
Anyone else thinking what I am thinking? 250GB HDD means a 250GB security sector so homebrew 250GB upgrades for all ;-)
exactly what i was thinking! get that hddss.bin ripped and released!
I'm holdin out for the 500gb Super Duper Elite
You could make point without being inflammatory. The current Zimbabwe government is at fault for many of the issues with debt and hunger but to make unnecessary racial slurs is just stupid.
Oh wait, the US is in a recession. silly redneck.
Jasper?
