Video: Creative Zii EGG development kit gets a second look
We already know the Creative Zii EGG development edition is shipping out to eager hands, but for the even more eager eyes out there, the folks at Anything But iPod managed some pretty nice, well-lit HD video to give another illustration of how the hardware will look and feel. The narrator is quick on multiple occasions to remind viewers it's an early build running on Creative's Plazma OS only (no Android yet) and he takes issue with the feel of the thin film of plastic on the touchscreen, but that and slow load times notwithstanding, the device is looking mighty impressive. Pictures through the read link, and mosey on past the break for digital peep show.

Ah that looks like it has great potential and kind of makes me regret preordering the Zune HD. Can't wait to see what the final consumer product will be like...
Not sure how Android is going to run on this without hardware modification, since it requires at least three hardware buttons. The vast majority of Android's software catalog would be rendered completely unusable without Menu and Back keys.
Shouldn't this be slapped with a KIRF badge? How come Creative gets away with this crap but everyone else doesn't?
Very excited for this... Android got me
how is apple not suing for imitation?
My Zii is expected to be shipped this week, but after watching this video, I am already underwhelmed. Even if its not running Android, it should still be fast and responsive, if their hardware claims are correct. Android isn't going to be faster than Linux, unless their Plaszma OS is isn't really a linux port. Whatever the case, I do hope they provide source code to their drivers and complete architecture documents for me to mod it... :-(
Zis is cool, zhough if Creative fails to deliver, zey might get Zii EGG on ze face.
okay i am really loving this thing, developer-wise right now. if you ask me, creative have just opened the first truly and utterly, 100% open, playing field.
iphone: not open.
android: open'ish, mostly.
zii: open
if i can get a thousand of these devices cheaply, i can do things.
Yes but can it Skype ie be used as a phone? I've got the new ipod touch and need to know when egg is due out. I only have 3 months to take the ipod back, and it doesn't sound like egg will be in commercial form by then. Ipod is good, but I don't like being spoon fed everything through apple's itunes. Also I wonder if the egg's wifi will be stronger than ipod, which won't lock on unless the signal is -85 dbm or stronger. A further example of the limitations of ipod (no mic, no camera, no HD) is you can't legally install a program like Netstumbler. The program that apple lets you install Wifitrack only displays named ssid so is no good for seeing what hot spots are really out there. It's like they are trying to control what hot spots you can see.
