PlayStation 3 firmware 3.0 now available

Update: We're running the update now and the changelog that shows up on the PS3 has two new features we hadn't heard about: simultaneous audio output across connectors and control of video playback (slow motion, fast forward and rewind) using the right stick. Nice!

My sentiments exactly. I hope this 3.0 update is better than others.
Derx, what was not good with the other updates? They all brought either a fix to a problem or something that was not there before. Updates are all welcomed.

seamonkey, you're not the only one! I like it because I can use the surround receiver when I game, but the wife doesn't have to mess with it when she just wants to watch a movie with the TV speakers, and I an also just use the TV speakers when the baby is sleeping without having to go through a menu to do it.

You are not alone. I've been wanting this for years now. This also helps with A/V Receivers that output audio to multiple zones since they typically require an analog signal for those zones. Now you can have your PS3 audio distributed throughout your house without changing the settings. Very nice.
I care! That "lack of ability" has grinded my gears for quite awhile. It's nice to know that I can do that now, I will go ahead and set up my entertainment center the way god intended it to be!
Thank god for simultaneous audio output. That was always one thing that really bugged me. I always knew some firmware update would fix it... I don't know why it took so long.
I have v3 firmware for PS3. Sorry to burst your bubble, but It only allows for 1 Digital and 1 analog output. All 5.1 digital signals are down converted to 2 channel 44khz pcm to both analog and digital outputs.
Hm.... kind of cool except Xbox Media Center (XBMC) has been doing the right analog stick control for 5 years. (XBMC has nothing to do with microsoft btw, its still awesome unparalleled media center)

Simultaneous audio across outputs: now you can output audio over the HDMI, digital optical and AV Multi connectors at the same time. However, everything _except for the connection specified in the main audio output setting_ outputs in two-channel only.
I will personally prefer my 360 and an external BD burner for my Macbook.
Dual audio output!? Kudos to Sony. I was not expecting that.
THANK GOD!!!!! I can't stand the audio thing. Most of the time I use the hdmi audio to the TV but when I watch a movie I have to to into the dam thing and turn on optical with like 10 steps. Try explaining that to your wife. She would rather not even watch a movie.
My other annoying thing is when you and the hdmi from a 1080p TV and plug it into a 720p that will not accept a 1080p signal it will not work. You need to go to the 1080p TV first, set it to 720p, then do the swap. I read you are suppose to hold the on button for like 5 seconds before connecting to the new TV and the rez will reset but I haven't been able to get that to work. This happens on my launch 60GB and my newer 80GB. :(
I have been trying the multi audio out, but I am getting really broken and stuttering audio out of the secondary output (HDMI to TV, then the stereo out RCA on the TV to an external amp). Has anyone been able to test optical as primary and HDMI as stereo secondary as working smoothly? Thanks.
How about some software base Backwards compatibility.

I was only bummed that i didnt have BC because of GOW 1 and 2. Now I can still play these on my PS3 with 720p and trophies! the other bundle of games i would buy would probably be Shadow of the Colossus and ICO.

i got an outrageous question. What did you use before you had the ps3 to play those games? a ps2 perhaps? use that.
If you're such a fan of playstation game, you should have bought PS3 on it's first year and have PS2 compatibility using an old PS3 60Gb console.
A PS2 will make your eyes bleed on a HDTV. Was there really any reason to own a PS3 in the first year? Why would he have bought one then? Sony didn't say anything about removing BC, otherwise maybe he would.
I call it a PS3 because the only game it plays for me is PerSona 3.

Pop in Disney/PIXAR 's Cars and check it out at 1.22(3) the normal speed, I must admit it looks epically better at that speed for some reason.
