Update: We're running the update now and the changelog that shows up on the PS3 has two new features we hadn't heard about: simultaneous audio output across connectors and control of video playback (slow motion, fast forward and rewind) using the right stick. Nice!
Yep, just realized that. Oh well.
Why can't I find avatars or dynamic themes on the PS store? In UK if that makes a difference.

Having used it, iPlayer app is nice, though still internet browser based, does seem to be faster and more responsive on playback which is good.
Although, not fond of the increased XMB size. When using a 40" LED tv 10 foot away it's a bit too big... I'm not frigging blind! Would like an option to make smaller again!
Also, dont like the odd grey boxes behind friends list. What the hell is that all about?!
Other than that, I love it! (Plus... sparkles rule!) :D
I'm not home so I haven't tested it yet but I read you can chose classic-style in the theme options and change it back if you don't like the new layout.
Does it allow you to create video playlists yet? then i'd be impressed...
it's been able to do that for a good long time already.

The new update is great! works prefect and alot better.. i love the new intro and setup.. however they removed the intro when you play a game.. so sad.
Design tip for the PS3 Firmware developers.
Look at the character input from Beyond Good & Evil. It is way faster and more than the current way.
Please include this very very simple thing into your enxt update.
Anyone else in the UK not see the iplayer link? The update wnt ok and I can see the new stuff but not this link :(

By the way, has anyone else noticed that they've changed the tone of the orchestra on the startup sound? I swear it's a different note now.
My phone startup sound is the PS3 bootup sound so I'll check the note to the new note to see if it changed. on a side note... having the PSone startup sound on my netbook windows startup is freaking sweet. Makes it sound powerful=))))))
iPlayer support is nice but it is still through the browser app and not a built in app. Quality has actually got worse!
Quality has gotten much better for me.
Much slicker.

hate the new way your friends look and that I can't get rid of the "whats new display" even though its off.
How hard would it really be for them to leave the USB ports hot when in standby? I can not fathom why they do not allow us to charge the controllers when it is in standby. My poor Wii is tired of having to charge everything when it is in standby.
Did they fix the stupid GH5 problem where the Guitar controller comes up as #7 and doesn't work until you reassign it to controller 1?
the ribbony visualization when you play mp3s now has sparkles in it.
I HATE that. I don't want visuals when I play music. There is no option to show me something that doesn't have movement.
@ nrb - thats so you don't experience burn in for the people using Plasma and LCD televisions. It's better to have it on all the time so you don't forget that you need it.
At least there's a reason for it. I do have to wonder why it's an issue on my LCD tv, but not my LCD computer monitor.
Maybe they could just go blank? I'm not a fan of visual stimulation detracting from my audio stimulation.
We need backwards compatibilty! I have a 80gb PS3 and I really want to play all my old PS2 games! Hopefully firmware 4.0 will have this.

I'm still wondering why you can't skip chapters on avi or mpg files. You can only do a foward or reverse scan. The 360 can do it.
