Sony unveils waterproof universal remotes for deep-sea TV addicts

If you're very clumsy (or you love watching TV in the bathtub) Sony Japan has just the thing for you. The Rimotokomanda RM-PZ3SD universal remote comes in a palette of soothing colors, works with a wide variety of sets (including those by Panasonic / National, Toshiba, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Victor / JVC, Sanyo, Aiwa, Sharp, Funai / PRECIOUS, NEC, Fujitsu, Pioneer, Philips, and, of course, Sony), and offers at least a modicum of water-resistance for wet-handed TV viewing (we'll leave that part up to your imagination). To be unleashed on the Japanese buying public "soon" for ¥2,468 (around $26). More pics after the break.

The article doesn't make it clear, but these remotes are designed for sale and use ONLY in Japan. The giveaway? Aside from the Japanese characters on the buttons, the BS button is used to access the Broadcasting Satellite services used in Japan (remotes sold in the US have it labeled SAT), CS for Commercial Satellite, and separate buttons to switch from analog to digital tuning (Japan is currently switching from analog to digital broadcasting, with full transition in 2011). And the 10, 11, and 12 buttons are there because for most of the country the predominate stations all occupy the analog VHF channels of 1 to 12. Having those buttons means easier access to those stations.

Staggeringly boring design, and not making it easy to quickly find often used buttons like volume if they are all identical, but hey; waterproof and $26 instead of the $80+ known brands often ask for universal remotes.
eh fairly niche market they're going for, how many people have tv's in there bathroom so they can watch tv in the tub? we dont all have fecking houses like mtv cribs shows you sony. now grow up, get back to work and make something practical because your watching to much mtv.
And people with infants/toddlers. I don't want to be shelling out for a new Harmony every time my daughter destroys it. This isn't as fancy, but it is a lot more kid-proof.
Waterproof means you can clean it, that's nice for many situation and no I do not mean for having sex with it.
