We figured the suits over at T-Mobile USA were on some of that good stuff when they
slapped an almost comical $350 (on contract) price tag on HTC's
Touch Pro2, but evidently said "stuff" has made its way into the halls of Overland Park as well. After months of watching
evidence mount, Sprint has finally come clean and admitted that HTC's EV-DO Rev. A-equipped superphone is coming to its network, and with it will come access to Sprint TV as well as NFL Mobile Live and NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile apps. The smartphone will go on sale
September 8th, though you'll have to pony up $349.99 (after a $100 mail-in rebate) in order to secure one on a two-year contract. We're all about that 3.6-inch WVGA tilting screen, but with Palm's
Pre selling on this very network for a full $150 less, we're thinking this one won't appeal to many outside of the WinMo faithful.
Oh Well, looks like no HTC Touch Pro 2 for me. :(
Awesome HTC! Now install Android on this and we'll talk about me finding $450.
I love windows mobile phones but this one just plain sucks ass. My friend got it last week and there is no way I would take that clunky thing over my HP 910.
Well this makes my decision easier. I was going to choose between the TP2, Hero, and Pre when my contract is up later this year, and I was already leaning away from the TP2 because of its size.
$350 for a WinMo phone? People forget WinMo is ancient. I wouldn't buy another WinMo let alone
paying $350. They won't sell many if any!
BWHAA HAA $350.....who the hell would pay that for this fat ass phone. I'ts $249 Canadian dollars with Telus, you yanks are getting ripped.
Just like Let's Talk and a few other places have $149.00-$199.00 deals for t-mobiles version so will Sprint......calm down guy's and gal's!!!!!
Maybe Sprint is thinking they see the handwriting on the wall with the new FCC investigation, and that outrageous termination fees and long term contracts subsidizing phone prices is going away.
So they are charging near what the phone is worth, knowing that their customers will be free to drop-kick their phone plan in 6 months withouthaving to ransom themselves.
One can only hope.
But probably not.
I'm a WinMo faithful, but I'm not stupid.
I was going to probably buy the TP2 as my old Touch (Vogue) is getting up there in age.
I guess I'll just continue to run the hacked ROMs on the Touch. At least this way I can stay with WinMo 6.5 instead of having to downgrade to 6.1.
There is no way in HELL I'm paying $350 for a phone.
hmm... install Android on this and you should see the price fall! The HTC Hero is only about $550 for an unlocked version. I'm hoping that when it hits Sprint in the next few months that the Hero will sit that the sweet $199 price point.

I was really looking forward to this phone--but NOT, repeat NOT for $350 AND on contract.
Darren is right: What are they smokin' over at Sprint? This ain't the way to rebuild their customer base!
Talk about being mad i just got my touch pro. Now the touch pro2 dang it....sorry piggy bank i'll super glue u back together. Im going to haft to buy it flat out at $599 price tag. then ima get the hero..no christmast gifts this year i guess.
Actually, you can get the tmo TP2 for $150 today, and for $200 after today. (just call their business department with code "windows mobile." new contracts only unfortunately)
Blah, I'll just keep my Touch Pro. Yeah, I'd like a bigger screen, but I'll hold onto my $350 until Winmo 7 comes out OR Sprint lets SERO people on the Pre. :)
To all you SERO people out there and complaining, when SERO was first started there weren't any real Smartphones on the market. The only smart phone out there was the Treo 650, and it was expensive like 400 dollars, and you couldn't get that much web surfing on it. Most the phones targeted were the flip phones which had a wap browser, or small music store. You can't expect Sprint to give you a cheap smartphone, and then a cheap plan. Thats why they made the everythings data plans, are really good deal never the less. When SERO 1.0 was created the average cost of a phone to Sprint was 200 dollars, now days the phones are costing Sprint easy 350 average. For this Touch Pro 2, it seems HTC is asking 600 dollars for it. For the Palm Pre, it is double subsized, since they did the math, and charge an extra 10 dollars than before, but then give more value to it.
Any word on a 3.5mm headphone jack? Like the one's on Telsa and VW.
You actually CAN have it in portrait mode with the keyboard out if you want. I think HTC disabled the switch in the OS by default but you can re-enable it and do it if you really want to for some reason.
sure, you can force it to, but it's pointless, silly and disabled by default >.>
You would be a fool to pay $200.00 for it , but HTC is prone to raping customers
$350 after the $100 rebate! Sprint's stock dropped drastically today......a coincidence....maybe, maybe not.
Hahah they must be on drugs. You can buy far better phones with far superior OSes for less money.
Knowing sprint plan prices, even if they are high they will will save you a ton over 2 years over the AT&T iphone plan. "Expensive" is relative. The sprint plan can't possibly be more expensive than a everything plan at AT&T....
humm , i'll take two pres :)
uhmmmmmm, oh yeah. these phones aren't worth 350$ PLUS subsidized costs...
ok, bye now :D
I thought I would wait till the Hero came out and if I didn't like it I would get the TP2 but it looks like Hero all the way now
I hope it is only a typo, on HTC press release for the Sprint TP2 it has this:
Interface: HTC ExtUSB (mini-USB and audio jack in one; USB 2.0 High-Speed)
contradicts the pictures that we saw not so long ago!!!

Talk about putting the kibosh on anyone buying this phone. It doesn't have anything worth mentioning over the original TP and it's insanely expensive out of the store ($450 pre-rebate? wow).
As others have said, hopefully of the two new Android phones at least one won't require a SEP so SERO people can keep their plans.
Quit complaining. Telus wants $550 for a Touch Pro2 on a 2 year contract. You have to go to a 3 year for $250
Just a tip not may people know this so here is a trick to save money on any phone or your bill. I have 10 lines with sprint yeah I know... anyways each of these lines have a contract ending date and they are all different. So what I do is this I call sprint to ask how much they will give me to renew my contract on lines that the contract expired or is about to expired. They have given me $75 or more per line I renew contract, whats nice is that I am still eligible to get a new phone. So for the pro2 I called three lines where about to expire so I called and I got $225 off my bill and then I order two free phones for two lines and keep one for the pro2. Around the 8th i will go online and order the pro2 and say bill on next sprint bill. So $450-225 = $225 - $100 mail in rebate = $125 to total cost. I know that now I am stuck with 3 lines with a 2 year contract but I was going to do it anyways. I will also sell my old phones on ebay so there are some more bucks saved.
Well I really want a Windows Mobile phone (Microsoft Fanboy) and I love the Touch Pro 2, but Sprint is charging $350 for the phone and $450 just to walk out with it. Money is really not an issue for me, but for just $249 for 2 years I can get the Iphone which.I won't have to mess with it unlike WinMo and it has great school apps which I can use. Sorry Steve I'm really sorry and I hate to do it, but I'm going to AT&T to buy the enemy tomorrow. It's so hard to write this I really feel like a backstabber because my love for Microsoft is really strong. When your just $250 away from not having to waste time to mess with the OS which I don't have it starts to become really appealing.
ok this makes more sense

Burn in hell with your $350 phones.
This is worth every cent. I purchased a GSM version from Hong Kong and its bliss having great email connectivity, an amazing keyboard, the screen and all the other good stuff. HTC has done a nice job of hiding windows mobile, but its also handy being able to get to it easily if you need to get under the hood. I travel a lot and this little gadget has replaced my need to carry a computer everywhere. My only complaint is it would be nice to have easy and cheap access to lots of apps. I get a little jealous when I see all the IPhone stuff out there. But for business use this is easily the best phone I have ever owned
But you get Coverage with AT&T.........
Why do people think that the iphone is cheap yes to get it is cheap but the monthly price is not. I would rather pay $500 for the phone and ask sprint to split it in my $45a month bill than to pay $200 and pay $80 a month. People wake up the iPhone is cheap becuase they will charge you over $2000 in monthly fees.
This phone costs $2197.76 from Sprint on a 2year with 450mins with everything Data. On At&T the comperable Iphone with 16gb the plan costs $2446.52. Where the Iphone becomes cheaper is in instant messeging because if you have 1500 text your bill is $2297 and with 200 texts its around $2097. So really the argument about which phone is more expensive is void what really matters is if you have the time to cook your WinMo device. I really wanted the TP2 I waited for it, but I really don't have the time to cook with 6 Advance Placement classes and I really need a phone ASAP for Student Government plus the App store has some things I could use for school. I'm a true Microsoft fan and I know a lot are waiting for this great phone, but the question is do you have the time to cook your device.
my contract ran out in june and they've been pestering my email box with offers,i think i'll try something android thank you very much sprint...HERO don't fail me now!!
LMAO, I thought I was the only one annoyed as hell when they do that!!
I love how the 2nd picture is intentionally trying to make the phone slimmer than it really looks. Its like airbrushing for smartphones now.
BullSH*T
I was debating between this and the pre. I have the TP1 (irritated with it). I think sprint just lost themselves money. Will go to best Buy and but the Pre (200 bucks, no Mail in Rebate)
