iPhone app scoops best software prize on Microsoft campus
Poor Microsoft. You generously welcome a Startup Weekend on your campus, where all manner of geeks and techies code their hearts out for 54 hours straight, you throw in the BizSpark program to encourage them to use your tools, and what do you get in return? Learn That Name, voted best app in show and designed for use on Apple's iPhone and Palm's Pre. Gee thanks! On the bright side, we congratulate Microsoft for allowing people to write for their platform(s) of choice -- and hey, it's not like Redmond has been lacking in innovation lately, right? Video demo of the name memorizing game / app is after the break.

Ah, clever plug. Get us all to think you were trying to draw attention to other people and then, surprise! You were actually talking about yourself.
"hi there! I know we JUST met, but do you mind if I take your picture with my cell phone? Say cheese!"
"I just want to remember your name! Why are you running?"
"54 hours straight"
Isn't it about time us coders step into the real world? Get 8hrs of sleep, have a life outside coding and enjoy coding at a normal pace.
Cause all this nerdy attitude, guru style, and code to you drop mentality for the last 10yrs has gotten us what? Twitter, Facbook, Youtube, Google, Windows 7, and Snow Leopard? Compared to the 10years from 1960-1970: supercomputers, database technology, OOA/OOD, airplanes (still used TODAY), and what else? ... *Going to the moon*? I say these code-offs and the environment companies like MS try to create, has not gotten us far.
You're ignoring the fact that a top-of-the-line computer from 10 years ago is now about on par with an expensive cellphone.
Not bad if done in 54 hours if they had to learn the API from scratch. Or if it had to run bug free and on both platforms.
I'm surprised, in a good way, that Microsoft had the courage to give this designation to this app.
I can imagine it would be very useful to people working at Microsoft, which is most likely why it won.
