Acer's Ion-powered Aspire Revo 3600 packs dual-core Atom 330
Remember that Gateway QX2800 we peeked back in July? Looks like Acer's finally issuing its own version of the nettop here at IFA with the introduction of the Aspire Revo 3600. Design wise, everything is pretty much the same as on the original AspireRevo, with the major differences coming on the inside. Rather than packing a paltry 1.6GHz Atom 230, Acer has outfitted this bugger with a dual-core Atom 330, NVIDIA's Ion graphics technology, 4GB of DDR2 RAM, an HDMI socket and VESA mount compatibility. There's no word on an expected price, release date or OS, but we're hoping to get our mitts on the unit itself as well as those missing details when Berlin opens its doors to tech lovers across the globe here in just a few hours.

Dude.. That's pretty awesome.
... but it's an acer
Good. More ION and more dual-core Atoms, the better. Bring them on. I'm tired of the same old single-core Atom + GMA950 combo.
Wow something got hit with the ugly stick...
Wow, someone got hit with the stupid stick. This looks pretty damn sexy for a nettop.
your mom?
Though I was going to be building a Zotac-based ION system for my TV computer, but this will do just fine if the price is right. Much skinnier and I'm digging the vesa mount. Also glad that they've pumped a bunch of memory in the thing. Should be plenty powerful for what I need.
it's already selling here in asia(Philippines) Php17,892.00 ($367.02). Wonder why there aren't any reviews out yet though...
if the audiojacks were NOT colored, this would be close to perfection...
I was thinking more of the lines of AV system like metal casing.. (but same design)
Dude, no need to be racialist about it...
i keed, i keeeed!...
It does look ugly, but I prefer that rather than trying to figure which one is the speaker out in an uncomfortable position.
If its got wireless and Bluetooth, would make a great home media server methinks. 1080i/p no problem.
"wireless AND bluetooth...."
do you mean Wi-Fi and Bluetooth ?
HTPC, not media server.
Sold!
I was going to get the single core Revo but i can wait for this.
Forget ion this needs the better nvidia 9600, which has better performance at the same power usage. I wonder what the performance difference is between a dual core atom vs a core 2 solo vs dual core Celeron cpu.
No, they wont let you play games in this form factor just yet.
Do you mean that this doesn't have enough horsepower to play old generation games like Need for Speed most wanted or Doom3?
This one's already available in Canada for $400 CAD

... and on the American site for just a bit less...

A pretty sensible price. They sell it with Vista Home Premium. I wonder what's their story on Windows 7 upgrade.
It's also available in Greece for 299 euros:

A very good alternative is a similar netop with the same price from ASROCK the ION 330.
no word about bluetooth, only 802.11b/g! Argghhh.
Just get a 2 dollar mini bluetooth dongle from http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11866 I bought one and It works well.
I do realize internal is WAY more sleek, (and cool and doesn't require a usb port) but at least this dongle is very small.
Looks like there's no SP/DIF again.
Now, put that in a netbook with 11" (to the FREAKING EDGE) 1368x800 screen, and price it at 600$, and I'm buying one
All that is needed now is a USB dual DVB-S tuner for freesat :)
Americans know that bugger means anal sex right? You seem to use it a lot in the wrong context, i.e. describing crappy netbooks.
fu night elf mohaawwwk
I'm using one of these right now. They have been selling these in north europe for while now. Performance is quite good. It can play 1080p mpeg's and almost also xvids and mkv's. Price is about 260 euros with Win XP and 299 with Vista.
Lego-style Fugly!
This is sexy : http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/17/lenovo-teases-ideacentre-d400-home-server-q100-q110-nettops/
The link sentinal posted above here has a price of $378.88 for one with 2gig ram and a 160gig HD. I suppose we could add $50 for the upgrade to 4gig and maybe $30 for a 250gig HD.....so around $450?
Hey, Acer or Asus, can I buy a bare-bones model with no OS, RAM or HD?
++for bare bones. I'd rather slap small ssd in there since I'm just gonna pull all my data of my media server or external drive.
Still, it's a great idea, could make a nice little boxee box.
no remote? this is sooooo close to being in my living room but I can't be expected to juggle a keyboard, a mouse, and a beer.
looks too bulky :-/
I have 2 ASROCK 330 ions as HTPC's in different rooms. I am running win7 pro on both and I have to say I love the damn little boxes. I also purchased IOGEAR HTPC keybaord and a 802n usb stick. I am extremely pleased with the ASROCK product. I waited for years looking for the perfect HTPC and the ASROCK fit every want.
I also thought while working on the little guys that these would be great for kids or a low/moderate end user.
I have them both overclocked to 1.9Gz.
It is released in Taiwan in July and the price is NT$11900 (US$382)

So what are the differences between this and the ASUS EeeBox EB1012 outed a few days ago???
I'll probably buy the superior of the two... any thoughts are appreciated.
When are they releasing it over here?!
Ooops. Here being England / the West in general :P
They really need to hurry up with some more info on this dual-core aspire revo. It's just so pretty!
