Nokia finally comes clean with N97 mini: €450, ships in October
Nokia World 2009 just kicked off over in Stuttgart, and while the outfit's CEO didn't have much to say outside of a few nice teases, Mr. Anssi Vanjok did the honors of officially unveiling the N97 mini. Of course, we've already seen this not-so-minuscule handset previewed over in the wilds of Russia, but it's certainly nice to have Nokia's formal seal of approval on the device. Nokia's pushing the mobile's social networking capabilities, not to mention calling it the world's "slimmest travel companion" thanks to the built-in Lonely Planet guidebooks. As for price? Try €450 ($639), but Sir Anssi asserted that the phone should be available for free on contract in "many, many markets." As for specs, we're looking at a tilting 3.2-inch touchscreen and full QWERTY keyboard, with the first shipments starting in October.

Wow, super fast reply to the super fast comment on the super fast post.
Nokia World gets no liveblogging?
Stupid US bias.
All they care about is Steve Jobs and his Rock and Roll project..
It's not exactly big news so far, is it...?
For those who are interested in listening to the announcement, here is the link to the recorded webcast:

aside from the N900, what is worth blogging about?
Stupid Nokia bias
Nokia X6 looks good
why the high price, for a smaller unit? not saying that Nokia likes to overcompensate for something...
i don't see how anyone could want this phone (or the old/large/regular n97) right now with the n900 around the corner. unless you really, really want a s60 touch phone, which makes little sense to me with the current state of the software.
I think they gained it actually.
Will it suck like his big brother ? Nokia is losing it big time .... people are selling their N97 young here in Europe.
Honestly I hope they won't release this with all the N97's interface and memory problems. My N97 is really useful but it's hardly a smooth experience.
I can't believe they ended up putting the space bar two miles to the right. Stupid design choice.
Wow, I didn't realize that until your comment.. Sucks how they put the keyboard together, indeed. That spacebar would be really hard to get to :(
Not really if you are typing with your thumbs.
This is what the original N97 should have been - the original is too big and clunky. I'm sure it'll sell pretty well and expect the original N97 to be EOL soon.
This looks nice. And actually by shrinking the form factor, Nokia have made this more attractive to me.
But all the reservations I had about the original N97 remain a problem for the N97 mini. I logged them here:

And as someone else said above, why would you be interested in this when the N900 is 'round the corner? It's going to be a tough sell.
Ouch... still not so cheaper than i thought.....
I had seriously set myself to get the N97 even before they came out. But then i realized it's the
same price as most Laptops, so i thought it would be better to get a small Laptop with 320gb
hardisk and a mid-range business phone like the E-series which by the way i already have and
wait instead for the N900. The i phone? It's what many people already have so it boring to me now.
...and you'll end up paying a lot more than this for a iphone.
honestly.. the n97 has grown on me..i love the design and look of the device. I am also well used to symbian so 5th edition was easy for me to get used to.
Glad to see the new facebook app is coming (to old n97 as well). Ill stick with the original. I like the screen size and storage.
N900 is going to kick major ass. I hope it comes to Canada (Which I don't think is going to happen though :'( ).
Actually what isn't mentioned on this article is specifically who Nokia are targetting with this device. It was made to appeal to a very specific segment within a specific market. They stated it very clearly in Nokia World and reiterated it 2 or 3 times. But we wouldn't know that since Nokia World isn't really getting much coverage here.
What is wrong with Nokia?N97 mini lacks so many featurespresent in original N97 and still it is priced higher than the original one.Are you going to buy it just because of its looks and size. When N900 is just €50 costlier, who is going to buy N97 mini.Check out its comparison with N97
