Sony Ericsson Aino's PS3 Remote Play capabilities get detailed -- no games, just media playback
Sony's got a lot of housekeeping to do before it can quell the infighting long enough to produce a proper PlayStation phone, but the upcoming Aino's PS3 Remote Play features sound like a tentative first step. According to a Q&A posted on the Euro PlayStation blog, the upcoming slider handset will be able to use Remote Play to connect and control a PS3's XMB through the internet, but you won't be able to play PS1 games like you can on the PSP -- you'll be limited to media playback, browsing the PlayStation Store, and chatting on PSN. Yeah, it's kind of a missed opportunity, but at least we can hope future handsets will expand on the capability a little, just like the PSP had remote PS1 game playback added in after the fact. We'll find out when the first Ainos ship in the UK in October.

How hard is it to put a 3G chip on a PSP?
Surely a lot easier than releasing this Aino in the same october month as Nokia will start selling its new N900 Rover, and getting some attention for it.
What for? You might want it but it's useless for me and for most people. I don't need that extra cost, thanks.
Well if you did add a 3G chip to the PSP, then the biggest problem would be the battery life... so how does playing games for a few hours sound... and imagin while playing in the most critical moment your game stops and a picture of your buddy pops up calling you...
but still i wish they would do that already.... i get sick and tired holding many gadgets with me when i travel with different chargers and pockets for each one
Did they really name this thing the Aino?
YES..."I know"
Or one can also translate that into Mandarin, making the meaning "Love Slave"
Don't bother me right now, I'm fiddling with my Aino.
It's not a missed opportunity. It's Sony addressing the elephant in the room: OnLive just doesn't work. Remote Play can't fix the physics of the internet.
Woww, buttonless? world first.
It isnt buttonless, it has keypads(not qwerty).it opens out (portrait), search it up
Sony have been too slow with a playstation phone or playstation / SE phone integration.
With Apple running away with the games on your phone race and others joining suit I think when they do decide on something it will be little too late.
I guess they could just open up Playstation and PSN services to android seeing as Sony is getting more into bed with Google.
can anyone tell me the purpose of the stick thing on the left? headset maybe?
I was wondering why there was a connect to 'PHONE' or 'PSP' option in firmware 3.0 when I was reactivating the remote play on my PSP yesterday after getting back my launch 60gb console from repairs.
(has that option been there since pre-3.0? i never noticed it before)
Does anyone use remote play on their PSP? I don't have one and have never seen it. I wonder what the numbers are like?
Yeah its a sick feature when traveling around, plus with an EHD there is no need to keep data stored on your psp or ps3 load up the external and you have access to everything.
Hmm... does this announcement mean that the Satio, Aino and Yari are finally nearing launch?
Mobile phones will never be able to play back PS1 games if they don't have all of the buttons that the PS1 game had. So no, Sony will not add PS1 game playback after the launch of Aino...
don't let Sony's supposed "missed opportunities" fuck with your head. they know exactly what the hell they are doing. They are into slow refresh over a looooong time mode. No one is going to give you the good shit NOW when they can milk you over a good ten year period. Yeah, you want dual analog sticks in the psp? forget it and Sony knows they should do it but possibly not now or never will. They have to keep you wanting and that's how the cash keeps flowing in.
Until someone else gives the geek masses what they wish and Sony will have to stand by watching that cash heading towards new and unexpected directions.
How about Sonys new MINI games coming out for the ps3 and psp, they might have a shot at being phone capable.
Wasn't there a change of top man at SonyEricsson just a while ago? I think a Japanese is now in charge... So the 'in-fighting" should be much less a problem.
Hmm...
Sony just needs to sell their mobile division.
Hi, does anyone knows if you can control and watch play tv via Aino, as the PSP can do this via remote play?
