Panasonic issues mildly revamped PT-AE4000 1080p projector at IFA
Panasonic's PT-AE3000 has gone over quite well in the home theater space, with its 1080p resolution and gorgeous image quality winning over more than a few projector junkies. But given that there's always room for improvement, the outfit has today introduced the PT-AE4000, an ever-so-slightly refreshed version that looks essentially identical to its predecessor. The Full HD native resolution and 1,600 ANSI lumens remain unchanged, though the contrast ratio has been bumped from 60,000:1 to 80,000:1 and Panny has outfitted it with a new "red rich lamp" and dynamic iris. Finally, this beamer supposedly eliminates those nasty Cinemascope issues that some users were seeing on the AE3000, though the estimated £2,000 ($3,255) asking price still feels a bit steep when you consider the alternatives.

clearly the offspring of HAL 9000 and the PS2. Haha.
Projector is a good thing!;) I'd rather take that than a TV;)
Yeah they're great fun for watching movies, however don't expect to be playing PS3 in the middle of the day in a light room :(
Blah, the only alternative with similar performance are Epson 6500UB or the upcoming 8500UB.
Nooo, this is what I was waiting for but the price is more than I'm looking to spend. Guess Ill have to find an AE3000 or 6500ub on clearance here soon.
Or pick up a used AE900u, AX100, or AX200. Great projectors for a lot less, though I believe each of these projectors is 720p.
And I Just Bought The AE3000 Last Week :/
ive had it for more than a year. great projector. 102 inch really brings out the HD-ness. nice crisp yet smooth all at the same time. SMILE.
The asking price is in line with the price they asked for the PT-AE3000 last year. And if u compare the Panny to the Sanyo projector, you'll see there's a significant difference in quality. I'm not sure about the Epson, but they've had their issues too (especially with frame interpolation). If u read the reviews on the PT-AE3000, they've pretty much been unanimously glowing. I'd expect the 4000 to be equal to the task, but a price drop would be nice.
