No.. Thats what the doctor said.
If you UNKNOWINGLY bought a fake Rolex/Prada/Gucci product and found out later, are those companies responsible? Go complain to the seller??
AGAIN WHY ISN'T ANYONE POSTING THE (ebay) SELLER ID/SHOP NAME SELLING THE FAKES SO OTHERS WOULD KNOW ABOUT THEIR SCAM??
...also these FAKES cannot be considered as 3rd parties simply because they unlawfully used SONY/PS/DUALSHOCK registered trademarks on the controller and package.
It's like saying counterfeit $100 bills are "3rd party" money.
LOL, of course they can call them third party. Third party means companies other than the official distributor. You could call counterfit 100$ bills third party bills since the US Mint or Treasury or whoever makes the official ones arent the ones who made them.
If the company who manufactures the official product isn't the one producing these FAKES, then it's Third-party hardware, plain and simple.
To the people who are saying Sony should allow these knock offs to work. I might as well buy myself a car and use fake parts, it should still work right? I paid for the parts and the car.
....and hold the car manufacturer responsible if the fake parts failed?
It would be wrong if SONY found out about the fake DS3 and allowed their continued use. What if the un-licensed Li-ion rechargeable battery exploded like those fake cell phone batteries? Then SONY would get sued for not having done anything to prevent it.
Maki, I have a hard time figuring out which side of the argument you're on lol.
I'm pretty sure he was using sarcasm in his post.
Neither the car company or SONY would be liable in this case because it is not their responisbility to make sure any unlicensed product does not work with their console. It is the consumers responsibility to know if he is buying licensed products and to accept whatever outcome if something does happen with the product.
Why would SONY be liable if counterfit DS3's start blowing up everywhere, they have nothing to do with it. Thats like saying you will sue HP because a controller you were using with the computer blew up...
so i guess we cant figure out we have a knock off until we bought it? how do spot the difference does anyone know?

Honestly, I've had bad experience with 3rd party controllers on several different consoles over the years, so I just don't buy them anymore. And that sucks if you were tricked in to buying a knock off but learn from it and don't get duped next time.
i dont see why everyones hating on sony for this. chances are it was by accident the controllers stopped working..
and why would u want a knock-off controller anyway? for tht matter 3rd party? nothing competes with the official controllers. tht goes for both sony and microsoft. :P id luv to play my ps3 using a 360 controller.. ther well comfortable.

Why is everybody flipping out? Wait for official word, it could just be a firmware bug. Firmware bugs DO happen sometimes.
Plus, if your precious new dualshock 3 controller you got on eBay was $5.47 then there has got to be something wrong.
Who cares? Don't buy knockoff controllers.
Proper 3rd party controllers work fine, it's the knockoffs that are broken.
What if you didn't KNOW it was a knockoff? You bought it thinking it was a legit 1st party piece?
Complain to the seller....
If you didn't know it was fake, it's still not Sony's problem.
It's definitely not just 3rd party controllers. I have two DS3's that I bought directly from the Sony store where I work (at Sony) and I've had trouble getting them and my bluetooth remote to connect since 3.0 hit. On the upside, 3.0 got rid of all the skipping problems I was having watching divx/mkv movies. They'll fix it, that's a pretty nasty bug.
no i am not
LOL, i have one of these CECHZC2H of ebay :P
but the things they show in the youtube movie actually make believe i have an official one...
(the back lable is perfect) no extra screw.
also these HONG KONG CECHZC2H have a DIFFERENT lable than the usa's euro;s (one uig square in the middle with COMPLIES WITH IDA standards.)
oh didnt test with 3.0 yet, PS3 is in eating dust mode.
Well there are official CECHZC2H controllers that work fine because they are authentic. The video illustrates that a white controller ending in U is unpossible as they where never released in the US. The counterfeiters probably just changed the label since the video instructed them on how to make them look passable.
Also the guy in the youtube video has a fake with USA label..

You gotta be careful, alot of times if you make new comment, then do a "reply" to someone, it wont fill in "replying to so and so" , you have to click it a second time.
All your base are belong to us!
Isn't it great how we now seem to *need* hardware verification built into general purpose peripherals? It's kind of like how "stress" didn't used to exist in humans until drugs like Paxil hit the market...
It's not just 3rd party controllers, the controller that CAME WITH the PS3 in Best Buy no longer works in wireless mode, it has to be plugged in to work.
Well, I can understand Sony, they MAYBE locked out those counterfeit controllers.. yeah, users are propably bitching about it, BUT those users should bitch at the people who sold them those controllers not at Sony..
If the seller doesn't want to refund you can report him/her to the police for selling counterfeit products..
All three of the console manufacturers have made it very hard to buy or sell unlicensed controllers this time around. Not that I normally stray from official product as usually they're better quality, but it's driven the price right up.
I hope Sony fix this ASAP.

I agree with you.
My point is: SONY is NOT responsible for the fake controllers. Why should they guarantee that the fakes should work?
I think if they learned about the fakes' existence, and didn't do anything about it (such as blocking their use), eventually if something nasty happened, like the battery blowing up, they might get sued.
...just an angle that some imaginative lawyer might dream up.
