Not necessarily. They only launched the latest dash update a month ago and I don't know if they can crank out the next one this quickly. I'm betting Zune 4.0 will have the basic framework for the unified marketplace (if not, they'll release 4.1 when the time comes) and then when they're ready to roll it out on the 360, we'll probably see the Live/Zune online services go down for maintenence sometime in (I'm gonna guess) octoberish to prep the backend stuff, and then the updated dash (and zune 4.1, if needed) will drop not too long after, I'm thinking novemberish around the time they launched the NXE last year.
I'm hoping they do another preview (and give preferred acces to those of us who got in the last one *winkwink*) since we're not just getting the new video store, but we're also getting the Facebook/Twitter apps which I'm REALLY excited for.

No, its just that when I look at the comments, I always see you and your crappy little comments dissing Apple and loving Microsoft, and quite frankly, its just getting ridiculous. The reason I have to do this in the comment thread is because its the only form of contact I can reach you at to tell you this. Engadget was a better place before you.
When was the last time I "dissed" Apple? Try looking back at my posts from today, or even the past several weeks. I occasionally call them on their failures, but also applaud them on their successes, and defend them when people make baseless attacks on them. Is my preference weighted towards Microsoft? Yes. But I don't go around throwing false claims or personal attacks when other people disagree, and I certainly will give credit where credit is due, whether it's to Apple, Google, or anyone else. You might try that sometime.
And by the way, before me? I've been around a lot longer than you have.
Say what you want about Microsoft, but the free software support for even the oldest models is excellent.
Supporting your older products is not that hard when virtually no one is buying the newer versions of said products
1) Mac client.
2) Larger capacity.
I'm (almost) willing to give up the space that my Classic offers me, but I want an easy way to interface with my Mac– I don't want to have to boot into Windows to use a media player

I agree with you Mark, there are a lot more pluses for the Zune than for the ipod touch and some over the iphone.
And no offense to Jubei but most ipod followers don't take the time to even read up on the Zune or Zune HD and they sadly and ignorantly defend ipod no matter what.
At some point most everyone thinks reasonably which is how i've converted ipod lovers into zune lovers...most of them would say the ipod was better and they didn't even know what a zune was
One of the best things that i think Zune has going for them is how much better and easier the software is...i've only used itunes some but that was enough compared to Zune

Oh Jubei the the Zune HD is competing with the ipod touch not a phone(iphone)...i don't know if it was an accident or not but you put the iphone at $99...when what you should have shown was the 8GB ipod touch which is $229.00 and the 16GB Zune HD is $219.99...so tell me everyone, even if the Zune HD didn't have the Tegra chip and all the stuff that the ipod or ipod touch doesn't have, WHY WOULD YOU PAY ABOUT $10 MORE FOR HALF THE MEMORY??!!!!!
I think Jubei may be the biggest troll in the history of trolldom... seriously. His list is so incredibly biased and wrong that it almost hurts to read it. He needs to go back under his bridge, stick a iPod up his ass and die.
Well, the Zune HD is not out yet so claiming it is cheaper is fairly useless. Let's check again once it is out for sale, and compare it to the then-current iPod Touch prices. ;-)

I must admit it the new zune hd is simply amazing, unfortunately due to its small capacity, it wont be able to hold my music and video collection. i will give it a couple of years before the hd gets upgraded to a capacity larger than 80 gigs. I still gonna hold on to my old zune 80 as much as a i can because it is a great piece of hardware with superb sound and excellent video quality. Audio book support will be available to old zunes.

wow. Funny how it's "desperation" for anyone to want to have a discussion about the actual player itself, and not "copy this, copy that. blah blah blah". You seem to have copy and pasted your talking points about the iPhone here. So let me make this simple for a pea brain like you. THE ZUNE HD IS NOT A PHONE, IT IS A PMP. LEARN THE DIFFERENCE.
Also you were actually lame enough to say "it's an iPod!" Like that automatically makes it great. Ha. I actually have an iPod, and it's about the most boring piece of crap out there. And iTunes is complete crap. Has been for a long time. I would much rather use WMP or Zune, I've used all three and WMP and Zune are the two players that I can actually see myself using.
Please please please add last.fm functionality! make it easier to scrobble at the least!

Thats it, I've been holding off for a while, going to hit the preorder button.
So I was rather disappointed today. My local store contacted me and said my Zune HD was in. Shocked I called back to make sure they had it right because the release date is still 12 days away. To my surprise, it was correct. Picked it up, got home, plugged it in. Yeah. Nothing. The software update is obviously needed. Called Zune support to see if I could get my hands on the software. Alas, no. I'd have to be patient and wait for the update to come out. :-(
No sence in being upset with MS, though the store may be in trouble for releasing it to me early. Spent most of the day seeing if someone had a leaked version of the software. Alas, again, nothing.
Can't wait to actually be able to use it. :-)

Ultra short answer: No, it won't. MS has been saying, since the first gen Zune, that it'll be released internationally other than Canada; hasn't happened yet. I don't see it happening either.

That's a lot easier said than done. Ever tried writing a driver for a USB device?
It isn't the easiest thing in the world to do.
On top of that, they would have to rewrite the Zune software to work on OSX, which means going through another development cycle. The design would possibly have to change, since otherwise, it wouldn't have the same feel when compared to Windows.
The list of tasks goes on and on.
And as big as Microsoft may seem, there is still a limited number of people and hours. And for that small of a market share, compared to providing new features for a broad user base, you can imagine what the product group would decide to choose.
I was just about to go buy an ipod touch then zune came along. According to most people zunes have better sound quality.. what a great September this is going to be.. waiting to see what apple will do.
Same here - I was about to buy an iPod touch as well, fortunately the zune hd came along AND it's WAY cheaper than I thought
Apple and Zune flamewars aside... why do the Zune ads look more and more like Apple ads?
Beware... Zune is coming and this time its BIG. I am sure that microsoft has full fledged strategy in their mind when they announced the stop of zune previous versions. Now with Zune HD in their kitty, they have nothing to lose more.
Damn, I'm excited for this... I've owned a Zune 30 for a while now, and I guess it's time to upgrade. :)
I'm really looking forward to this Zune HD, i hope the sound quality is better then on the iPods.
It does My sister has an iPod classic and I have an 8GB Zune and the sound quality is much better on the Zune than the iPod with the same earbuds/headphones/speakers. The iPod has more accessories, but the Zune sounds better. Additionally, I am a fan of the free firmware updates that they give every generation, allowing every generation to have the same functionality, all the way back to the first gen. I also prefer the touchpad to the click wheel on the iPod. I find that I can navigate through everything much quicker.
I'd be even happier if integrated well with Windows 7 (jumplists etc.)
