Palm webOS 1.2 leaked, plugged in record time

You know, sometimes if you just study hard, keep your nose clean, and stay away from the pirate cable TV business, fate will do you a solid. For instance, check this post by PreCentral forum member go4craig. Today, the hapless youngster innocently applied webOS Doctor in a bid to reset his phone back to factory and wouldn't ya know it? When all was said and done, the phone's operating system was upgraded to webOS 1.2. And what's more, the maneuver has been repeated successfully by a handful of other forum members.
What can the accidental early adopter expect for their trouble? How about account information for the App Catalog (a sign of paid apps to come), a Select All option in the browser's edit menu, and some changes in GPS location services. In addition to all this inadvertent newness, the update is said to have "much improved (zoom animation)" and a number of "little tweaks throughout." Sadly, as of this writing the gang at Palm seem to have plugged the leak. But chin up, little ones -- we're sure an official release must be imminent.
[Thanks, Jay]

NOW THE PALM PRE IS SURE TO BECOME THE IPHONE KILLER!
WOOT WOOT!
*SOUNDS BELL TOLLING THE DEATH OF APPLE*
Maybe, if they can get the app store going strong. Still waiting for visual voicemail though. Instinct had it, why not the Pre???
Let me know when the ZuneHD can make a phone call. Thanks.
WebOS is missing a lot of features lets put a few simple things in this Palm come on
I'm highly considering ditching my Pre for the HTC Hero!
I'm highly considering ditching my iPhone for the Palm Pre!
I ditched my iphone for the Palm Pre... don't do it put the Pre down....
I'm highly considering just enjoying my Pre for the helpful tool it has become.
...And I'm highly considering ditching my Nokia 1100 for a ZuneHD.
Gonna line up for it!!!
I'm not your buddy, guy!!
Oh wait..
I managed to make an HTC Hero crash literally within 5 minutes of me getting my hands on it. Not that I tried to do so, I just opened the camera and the damn thing locked up!
I just traded my SLVR for a Curve 8330!
(I'm cheap)
Why would you do that? Verizon has the Tour for about $50.
oo look, you're camouflaged!
@MMM?
Is your space bar broken?
im highly considering stealing a sprint htc hero cause i want one so bad but im stuck on ATT for 2 years lol
@ jrlor63,
ZuneHD still rulezzz although it can't make fone calls.
Eat that Pre!!! Pre sucks!!!
.
Hmm.... looks like the browser might be getting copy and paste from the select all option...
Man I really hope that not all there is to come with this release. I was really hoping for a on screen keyboard and a working App store :(
The app store will be out of beta & it is suppose to be going live (With the ability to BUY apps) the middle of this month, and as far as the on screen keyboard goes, just install the homebrew version, it does a pretty decent job, & it is only going to get better/more useful with updates.
How dare you try your reverse psychology on me.
nah, i think ill just report you :)
iphone rules
where in the hell is e-mail search? what a joke
In the OS 1.2 Update.

Does anyone know when they are going to officially let this update fly? I am getting more and more frustrated everyday!!!!
AFAIK, jailbreaking the Touch is not simple.
So much for an iPhone killer. Palm had plenty of time to develop its WebOS to ensure tons of features were included in the initial release. The iPhone has set the standard. The Pre copied much of the iPhone, I just don't understand why they wouldn't copy the whole thing at once. Looks like you will celebrate email search when it comes like iPhone users celebrate MMS and Copy/Paste. And don't give me that "it took xx years for Copy/Past on the iPhone" crap. The Pre isn't allowed that time to develop. Missing features should already be in place.
Yeah multitasking on the iPhone is awesome isn't it.......
I am so glad Apple came up with the card system......
@glamajamma
Uhh... Apple did..
Havent you used Mobile safari?
Its the palm pre's whole OS.Sorry to burst your bubble but the pre copies the iphone jusdt like most other phones have.
@glamajamma
Oh, and the iphone CAN multitask... or would you like t keep spreading these lies?
Please leave.
The iphone can't multitask, listening to the ipod and doing something else is NOT multitasking. When you can have 2 3rd party apps running at once, then THAT is multitasking. Until then, the iphone CANNOT multitask.
Hey @krische, the iPhone can multitask: http://code.google.com/p/iphone-backgrounder/
It works fantastic.
Do you have an iTunes Store link to Backgrounder?
Some of us would like a phone where we can have basic functionality without having to use software from a year ago because the latest update isn't compatible with the jailbreak(as with the Touch and OS 3.0).
@DR
Well, that doesn't really hold much ground here. A lot of Palm Pre users are hacking their phones as well just to get basic functionality like tethering, themes and 3rd party applications.
@DR
The latest version of backgrounder is in Cydia. If you aren't familiar with Cydia, it's a "homebrew app store" for the iPhone/iPod Touch.
Jailbreak your iPhone/iPod Touch, open up Cydia, search for backgrounder, and touch install. It's pretty simple to install.
Ok, Ok, we get it. Some of you people just have to have a pissing contest about whose phone is better. Which doesnt matter at all unless you work for said company. So I dunno...smoke one and chill.
All I want to know about this update - will I be able to switch the sound my text messages make?
There's an app for that
I agree 100% smoke one and chill, and also can I change the message sound?
It appears that Palm's latest version of webOS has leaked, and now the bloggers have descended upon it to pick out every last scrap of useful information. Boy Genius states that several new features of webOS 1.2 have already been uncovered, chief among them being support for paid applications. The Pre's app selection is notoriously weak, so allowing developers to submit paid apps is a very necessary step.Visit http://www.i4u.com/article26772.html for more info.
all we have here is fanboys defending this phone or that phone, like their the ones that created it. How about no matter what phone yu have pre or iphone, use ur phones to make calls and send txts like everyone else. And STHU already.
