HTC Touch HD2 to be an Android set?
Fanboys the world over swooned over the HTC Touch HD when it launched last year, but word is that HTC's planning on making a major change to its high-res handset for the sequel: it's switching to Android. That's at least the hot whisper 'round the tubes this afternoon, and while that would ordinarily be enough to make the 'droidboys to go crazy, there's even more -- the CPU is reportedly a 628MHz Qualcomm chip, not the slightly overtaxed 528MHz number we've seen in every other Android handset to date. Sure, it's just a measly 100MHz, but if that's enough to make Sense and HD video on the 3.8-inch 480 x 800 display run smoothly we'll be all grins. If any of this is true, that is.

Yeah some android on big screen with wvga at last.
Sprint did promise higher-end android phones by year end. It's more believable to me that it be this, versus the SE Rachael. The Touch HD has been out for a long time, with the release of all the "2" versions, this is likely to not be too far away if the rumor above is in fact authentic.
Not sure you guys know but with the new ROM update (or optimized current ROM) even on the 528MHz processor Android is running very smoothly. Initially lag problems that reviews report don't exist anymore. I wouldn't say Android is taxing the processor at all in terms of normal applications. And this is all on a Hero which is running the Sense UI.
This is definitely the fastest smartphone I have used. And wait...it can multi task too unlike our buddy the iPhone.
I'm at a point that when I ever meet an android I'm going to kick its shiny metal ass.

FoxKenji is right its too little too late.
i mean honestly the Diamond 2 looks amazing from the hardware to its UI but where is it? im not paying 350 for the touch pro 2 cause its not meant for me, i don't like how BIG it is, i don't need to make conference, etc. and like bjsguess pointed out people who talk bad about winmo speak out of ignorance, its a great OS and theirs certainty a lot you can do with it. The Xperia X1, Touch HD, etc. where some great phones with excellent hardware but your not going to find them in american markets and until then winmo will ALWAYS get bad reviews......
I just bought the palm pre and its simply amazing
weak....
iphone killer? haha. how about a more accurate description: iphone competitor.
i love my iphone, but i welcome any real contenders. the fact that this is running android is a HUGE plus to me. i was drooling over the HTC Touch HD last year, but when I learned it wasn't coming to the states i stopped thinking about it. i hope this lands in the states and succeeds. if i'm not in love with the current iphone model when my contract expires in nov 2010, i want and welcome worthy alternatives.
Sounds great, need something to replace my samey boring iphone (never thought id say that) but I wonder if it would have qwerty keyboard or should i b barking up the touch pro 2 tree & save blind hope?
hold out for iPhone 4.0 :)
Schmoly Cawoly! Now that would be nice! ^^
Is there a possible release date? I want this phone....
Its launching in Korea on OCT 19 with Windows Mobile 6.5 so....
I have to agree with the WinMo debate to a certain extent. Although it does have its advantages, I've used several WinMo powered phones (WM5.X and WM6.0) and I really don't see what the hype is all about. Business users, business users... most of them use iPhones!?!?! Because most of them really need just a decent web browser and email client on their phone. Yes, large businesses who use Exchange and are buried in other Microsoft tech tend to be better of with WinMo but honestly when was the last time you typed up an important Word document on your mobile phone and then sent that exact document from the phone itself without first editing it on your PC.
I'm a "business" user. I use my (Android) phone for tons of email (I view attachments and take notes on it - works great). Oh, and I can browse the web too. Sorry, PocketIE is just a joke, they couldn't even get the desktop version to work right with their Compatibility Views and Compatibility Updates and funky meta tags to force IE8 to behave like IE7 - they made a Frankenstein browser that barely works on my core 2 duo 2.5ghz with 4gb ddr2 800 - how do you expect them to make anything usable on a mobile device.
Mobile Outlook -> Google Apps + Gmail/Calendar/Contacts automatically synced to my phone - doesn't get much easier - I go to my Web Mail on ANY PC, edit my Contacts or Calendar events and what do you know - when I pick up my phone it's all there... No ActiveSync needed - nothing. So please explain to me what do "business" users do on their WinMo devices that is so special and we can't do easier on an Android or even an iPhone. WinMo might be flexible but it's also way complicated even when they try to hide it behind some "Sense" UI or whatever you still get to see its ugly face quite enough. Oh, I forgot... WinMo7 is supposed to fix all that.... like WM6 and WM6.5 did :/
