Samsung's LED TV Couple packs a 7-inch tablet remote for streaming TV and so much more
Without much fanfare, Samsung has released a TV / tablet combo in Korea that seems to deliver on all the untapped promise in Toshiba's JournE touch tablet. Dubbed the LED TV Couple, Samsung has paired a 55-inch LED baclkit LCD TV with a brand new 7-inch touchscreen tablet, which communicates with and controls a full home theater over 802.11n WiFi. The tablet offers a visual program guide, including video previews of TV shows, along with access to media stored on a PC -- which can in turn be "tossed" up to the full TV -- and even a few widgets. But the real money is in the pair's ability to stream live TV and Blu-ray content from the home theater to the tablet, making that next trip to the kitchen for munchies so much less painful. No word on a US or Europe release, but we hope to see a lot more of this pair in the near future. Peep them in action after the break.

Built in wifi on a TV is sweet. Opens up so much potential for network control.
what is it with TVs and cool remotes atm?
I already have WiFi in my house for my laptop. I'd rather my TV be on GigE, just like my PVR, PS3, 360, Wii and media Mac. How about they accept commands over ethernet?
Streaming Blu-Ray over a wireless network is the real "bag of hurt". You need a wired connection to do it reliably.
So samsung finally found a way too get rid of their Q1EX umpc line.
Want.
IMHO this will be one of the main features of the apple tablet.
Sure.
Keep on dreaming dude.
"DorrsNotWindows"
seriously?
Bluray is not in Apple's vocabulary.
Apple should do something like this with their apple TV/ iTablet
That would be ripping of someone else's idea.
You know, that stuff Apple is supposed to only be a "victim" of.
I am sure Apple will do this and then everyone will say how they were the first company to do something so cool. The usual cycle of New Apple Products --> Journalist go crazy, will follow.
oh i god i cant believe samsung copied of something that apple can potentially do.
all these companies have NO innovation of their own i tell you
where would the world be without steve jobs
and samsung coping their potential products that there is no word of.
*drools*
Great idea!
... and it's 'back-o-the-couch' proof. Now that's a design savvy Sammy. Kudos.
Awesome idea, hope to see it more often in the future.
Wonder how they get around Blu-ray licensing restrictions / HDCP and streaming to the tablet, though?
It didn't show the Blu-ray video on the tablet. It just showed the Blu-ray logo on the tablet where the video should be. If he dragged the logo to the top, it put the actual Blu-ray video on the TV (in 1080i, ugh).
@why not the LS2LS7?
Rewatch the video at around 1:18 they clearly show them streaming the Bluray video.
A TV for my TV!
yo dawg i heard you like watching tv
No, but my TV does.
lol
I'm calling it... Apple is going to steal this technology, make it look all pretty and simple, then call it the iCouple, which includes the Apple TV and iTablet. All the fanboys will defend it like they invented it and it will sell millions...
apple made it first this just copyd apple rules the world of technology and the tablet will be a huge hit
nubs
Hey asoccer troll can you kindly DIE!
i almost would have mistaken it for a sarcastic comment pulling on apple, but then i remembered its the same poster as.. ugh.
another undernourished African baby dies when an apple fanboy makes such a comment.
i'm no apple fanboy but please get your facts straight. if apple released "iCouple", it would be (insert TV brand here)+iTablet. apple TV is NOT a TV....
The idea is pretty good and it gives good demo. But having used the awful widgets on the Samsung TVs, I am very skeptical about how well this works.
Also, he throws the Blu-ray to the TV and the TV says "1920x1080i" while playing it. Is it chopping Blu-rays down to 1080i? That would suck.
maybe its that specific movie or player.. or something,
i just cant believe they'd actually do that.
Yeah, and I'm sure that a device that doesn't exist can do almost anything.
Only the iFanatics can shill for a product that isnt real.
WiFi is great, but GigE is definately more important imho.
Imagine being able to Wake-on-LAN your HTPC/television, using the remote control of the television/HTPC.
The new HDMI 1.4 standard has Ethernet integrated, perhaps WoL will find it's way in other consumer electronics...
The ethernet in HDMI 1.4 is only 100Base-T. Phooey.
Am I the only one that looked at that and thought an "iPhone app would do the same thing."
If the TV accepted commands and data over IP. You're not going to do that with IR blasting.
Death to IR blasting.
I want one, better than having my mac hooked up as HTPC (errr HTMac). It's a bit slow, but I can't really complain, I want one!
Problem... how many people use their tv remotes to switch channels? The vast majority of people I know have digital cable or satellite boxes to change the channels. Unless this tablet is A) Universal with all devices and B) allows control of AVR's, as well, it is simply a gimmic.
Now why does this have anything to do with the iTablet or watever they'll call it.Have'nt there been hundreds of touchscreen remotes out already? So may all the high and mighty apple fanbois spare us coz not all of us wanna spend an arm and a leg for device only coz it has aluminium and a fruit logo.
This is a really nice looking Tv with great add-on features. This will be my second Samsug tv I will buy. Now to find some dumb apple type schmuck to buy my old tv. I'll just tell em that is 100% Mac compatible. That should work and get me an extra $1000 on top of the original price.
add web cam and video chat on the tablet. that would be kinda cool.
then i can chat with people not there about what im / we are watching
The sad thing here is that Wi-Fi N is already obsolete, and not capable of streaming video especially HD properly. I love the ability to stream video to a device like this in home but WiFi doesn't seem to cut it for me. Waiting for a new standard in 2030...
This looks awesome!!! (and expensive)
I it just me, but this thing would have been way more cooler if ti was faster?
yeah.. Having to wait for your remote to load isn't acceptable. Having slow phone I can handle because there isn't really one that can handle all my running things but a tv remote should response right away. But cool still.
Would be good if you could use either or both the tv and remote to browse the net or at least use the remote as keyboard
sechs?
*stands and applauds* lol
oh im sorry, is my time machine not good enough for yours?
is the one you made last night in your room so much better?
got all those dials and knobs and displays you need?
yeah im sure you have a much better time machine than mine.
stupid dog.
if you take picture ice bear, change is possible!
