Nikon Coolpix S1000pj hands-on at IFA
We're still curious to see how well the integrated projector in Nikon's Coolpix S1000pj does under real-world lighting and usage conditions, but it sure seems pretty in the controlled environment of the company's IFA booth. The crew from Engadget Spanish say the novel cam is a lot thinner than you'd expect -- check out the video and a gallery of sample shots after the break.

I love berets!
what?
I'd use it for a good 2 week before the novelty wore off.
It's an interesting idea but I don't think it's effective enough to justify getting the first generation
Linux is good for a general OS, but when I went for higher up models I went with Windows.
delete that comments please....you know....because i cant >_>
Nikon is good for a general digi cam, but when I went for higher up models I went with Cannon.
Canon is good for general digi cam, but when I went for higher up models I went with Nikon.
I agree with both, more with the second one.

I like Panasonic (on my third Lumix), but this post didn't really ask for my opinion, did it? Just showing off a novelty cam, not asking us all what our very most bestest favorite brand is.
General is good for nikon digicam, when when I went for canon up models I went with High.

I love how I was low ranked when Haikibutsu said the exact same thing, gotta love this site wow
Nikon is good for digicam, but when I went for good lens I went with Canon
Shut up troll. You completely got it backwards.
:-\
So, Panasonic and Canon are focusing on better low light sensitivity/less noise via larger sensor/less MP. Sony & Fuji are doing the same thing with a different approach (EXMOR and EXR/pixel-binning). Nikon? Hey, let's put a projector in a digicam. LOL. Shows you where the priorities are in each of those companies.
If I'm not mistaken, Nikon currently IS the best when it comes to low light sensitivity...
...so it seems the rest of the bunch are just trying to copy them and just improve on it, no?
Nikon was focusing on this stuff over a year ago...when no one else was...sorta like the Micro 4/3 that Panasonic and Olympus are focusing on...thats cool!
The ISO 25600 (however noisey it was) was a groundbreaking achievement IMO...and if you're right I guess we won't be seeing another company come up with a built in projector digicam, eh? we'll see...

@Jiaren: The focus is less noise, not just bragging rights of high ISO. Show me which consumer Nikon compact digicam that can compete with the LX3/S90/G11/F200EXR.
Check the high ISO ratings at dxomark.com. Nikon wins.
@D: Which Nikon? Are you saying Nikon DSLRs are better than the competitors' compact consumer digicams? Big duh. Mind showing me comparison between Nikon compact consumer digicams (eg. Coolpix S series) with the likes of Fuji F200EXR?
I found another video that also shows you the integrated projector mode, but it also shows you the other functions that the camera has as well. Link below:

Up to a 40 inch wide projection? Hackers of the world unite! Depending on the playback format, throw some movies on to the memory card and hit play.
I also filmed a video showing this projector digicam here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxXPq-wmC-I
Soon there will be digicam projector docks to hold your camera and project it on to the dock's 50" screen. No need for a real TV anymore! Much as people enjoy low-quality audio on their i-pod docks today.
Seriously tho how could this *not* be useful? The ability to instantly share with others your images and videos on a portable large screen? Yeah of what possible use could that be...
If they can fit a camera and a projector in such a small device, why don't they work on the quality and brightness of the projector and rule the portable projector market.
It's cool, we can buy your camera too.
