ASUS Designo MS Series is 16.5mm thin, venerates form over function
Imagine yourself a dozen years ago, inhabiting the age of the CRT monitor, where a depth of 16.5 centimeters was considered a space-saving solution. Now open your eyes, breathe in the fresh air of modernity, and gaze upon ASUS's new line of 16.5mm deep monitors with the admiration they deserve. Coming out with no less than five models ranging from 23.6 to 20 inches -- MS246, MS236, MS226, MS227 and MS202 -- ASUS has strapped touch-sensitive buttons to 2ms response panels with 250 nits of brightness, and a 50,000:1 dynamic (boo!) contrast ratio. The top three models feature Full HD resolution and HDMI, while the 22-inch MS227 makes do with 1680 x 1050 and the MS202 gets downgraded to a 5ms response time and 1600 x 900 resolution. Prices aren't yet available, but the read link contains all the painfully exhaustive details you might need.

who do they wish to sell those stuff to?
ppl on teh interwebs?
They're going to market them as wristwatches for giants..
'Form over function' maybe, but why is that never once said here about stupid apple--EVERY ONE of their products being the absolute epitome of form over function...and not even very attractive form at that, if you ask me. I know, you're not asking me; I don't care tho.
You beat me to it.
How is this form over function unless it's really overpriced? And you don't even know what it costs.
The only fail I see (yet) is no visible VESA mount holes.
Which most people don't really care about.
But a Hornet on that would be good.
Did anyone first think that was the Snow Leopard wallpaper default too or am I just a trollin' fanboy?
the latter...
I thought the same... At least the color-palette is the same...
That was my first response, OMGWTF Touchscreen iMac! then i saw the title
*sigh* we can only hope
Why did they mount a bracelet to the back of a monitor? I don't think women are going to go for this new trend.
No, they mounted a monitor to the front of the bracelet.
Anus
Too true my friend.
Pancreas.
Alas. couple years ago I got low-ranked for doing that.
Times do change, they do.
Toe.
This game is fun.
it's the same thing, in plural.
Why call "boo!" on 50:000:1 contrast? /Sarcasm?/ Anyway, the numbers are false and inflated on every tv and LCD nowadays, so I guess it doesn't even matter to ask.
What about color gamut? I want full Adobe RGB!
I could use this e.g. as a secondary monitor next to main HDTV to read news or catch up with other stuff. We tend to watch tv programs using mac mini and it would be nice to be able to browse news while my wife watches some boring program. E.g. google.reader for wii works obviously on any computer for larger text size:

How would you ever do this unless you're sitting 3 feet away from it, AND not have the hdtv drown out any kind of sound or kill your concentration?
Looks lovely but pretty useless for me without VESA mounts.
16.5cm depths on aCRT?? That must have been really tiny monitor as the CRT tube is a bit less deep than wide, About 20cm from side to side, comes to about 8" monitor. Hardly ever seen in the time of crts.
As for this thinnest monitor race, it's pointless. When the monitor depth goes below 3cm there aren't many uses where even thinner makes a difference. It's the new daft race with no use.
I don't think it's really fair to say that it's form over function without a price. Besides, is a monitor's form not infact it's function? Unlike the rest of a computer's components, a monitor is meant to be looked at. If you are going to stare at a screen all day, it may as well be fun to look at. I also find that I am more productive on a cleaner desk. And change is what technology is all about. Manufacturers have to keep changing their product so that customers will be enticed to update. The latest and greatest start off expensive, but as time goes on they become the standard and become affordable. 10 years ago desktop PC's came with 64mb of RAM and a 60gb HD and cost around $1,500.. now you can get a laptop 4gb RAM and a 320gb HD for $600. In 5 years we'll all be using large capacity SSDs and uber thin monitors just like this as a standard. =) Just wait til it's cheaper.
Certainly design is important, but for this series of monitors it does hamper function - ergonomics. The design means no tilt and pivot, which is common on higher-end monitors. That said, most monitors in its presumed price range would also lack such functionality, and even monitors in higher price brackets lack adjustments (Apple Displays in particular).
Wake me when somebody produces an all-in-one without cheap plastic chrome or piano black bezel.
This thing is ugly.
It's also not an all-in-one.
... Design-o? Really? I'm gonna just pronounce it "De Signo" and retain my faith in humanity.
Personally, I'll stick with a 32" HDTV I have, it's not much thicker and it does the job fine, oh did I mention it has freeview :P such a technological wonder is ole freeview.
Form over function is a bad thing?......than the new ipod shuffle is the worst mp3 player out this year.Engadget would'nt post this anyway....
Ah, I can strap two to my arms and use them as weapons like the Zora Link from Majora's Mask.
