CyberPower announces new range of overclocked Core i5, i7-based gaming rigs
Not content with a pricey system powered by the latest and greatest Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor? Then you're just sort of madcap individual that CyberPower is looking for, as it has rolled out a new range of gaming rigs packing factory overclocked versions of said processors. That includes no less than five new models in Gamer Xtreme 1000 to 5000 series, which will be available with your choice of Core i5 750 (2.66GHz), i7 860 (2.80 GHz), or i7 870 (2.93 GHz) processors, and one of a number of different P55 chipset motherboards from manufacturers including Gigabyte, ASUS, EVGA, and MSI. Otherwise, you can expect some fairly high-end and fully configurable options across the board, and some equally high-end price tags for most of those options, although you can apparently get in on the base level for just $749.

Aside from the processor choices, that case looks all kinds of sexy.
Buy it yourself. Cyberpower always use off-the-shelf cases.
More appropriate: build it yourself. What if he can't build PC's? lol
Silverstone Raven RV01 Case. Vertical graphics card alignment. Sweet case, cable management is harsh.
no *fewer* than 5. First... grammar nazi in this thread.
I want an i5 laptop, make it happen intel.
The 18.4-inch HP dv8 is set to feature a quad-core Core i7 720QM CPU, 640GB of storage and 4GB of memory.
Oh believe me, I know it. Can't wait to see if they put a decent GPU in it, since an i7 laptop for 2k is several hundred below the Sager model... which probably means it'll have a GMA chip.
You made it in before I did! I hate to be pedantic about less vs. fewer, but that just rubs me the wrong way when I see it in written language.
Do they put those fancy lights in PC's so that users can see where their goo landed?
Good one.
looks way longer than the average case
thats because its black
Wayyyyyyyyyyy, what a lol
That's what she said
EVGA/Nvidia makes mother boards that pretty much over clock themselves. like the 780i and 790i FTW. love those boards for gaming machines.
PC Gaming?
Pathetic Console?
As long as there are PCs, there will be PC gaming, peasant consoles, lol.
Bring on dual i7 Skulltrail 2 already so that 36th chamber water-bending masters of The Order of Liquid Ninjas may "grace it with their presence...

The processor is only exceptional but the case is sexy.
Much better than this case: http://www.computersncs.com/rd_p?p=191614&t=9544&a=14668-sdesktop&gift=14668
Silverstone Raven.
Okay if you like plastic. And lots and lots of it.
I'm past the phase were I need my hardware to look tough. Burglars are rarely scared of a threatening looking PC case.
It's the monolith in case form.
+1 WAR reference
Maybe he means monolith from " 2001: a space Odyssey"...
walter brimley!
The base model is a REALLY good buy, especially for being already built.
what model are you referring to? i cant seem to get anything good for under my budget of $800, i want more than 4gb of RAM, and something a little better than a 9500. I guess i'm not cool enough to get a Core i5 system...
npa:
You can build a very good gaming rig for $800 very easily. Most prebuilts will be crap compared to what you can build.
For some reason, I remember hearing about Cyberpower making/shipping a good amount of defective PCs. Could be wrong; somebody should google it up.
now i only need money
It is a SilverStone Raven 01 case by the way, strange since the 02 just came out.
Cylon PC
Is this the kind of PC that will make my power company happy and richer?
Or look for a good local High End PC shop. Someone with good service! I think we are on the verge the rebirth of the Desktop Gaming PC. Get the best Gaming Rig you can then buy a cheap NetBook for living room computing.
I hear good things about Dog House Systems out of Texas and a bunch of other new guys getting started. CyberPower and IbuyPower are all very cheap for what you get but that is why support is so bad. Plus they have to cut corner everywhere they can.

Every PC company out there announced new PC's today. Why focus on Cyberpower?
I cringe every time I see an article about cyberpower. I almost bought a system from them, then I read some of the user complaints at resllerratings.com. I'm so grateful I was able to avoid what could have easily been a nightmare purchase experience.
Alan is right. I purchased a laptop from them about two years ago and I had nothing but problems. Any time something died (first it was bad RAM. Twice), then a bad mobo. Then the screen died. And each time I'd wait weeks and weeks for a response from tech support. I finally got a response after filing a complaint with the BBB in California where they are. But even then they told me they couldn't help me. Stay away from them.
Windows 7 is much better with games these days. I saw great improvements in the way my computer (an ASUS gaming laptop) handled stuff when I switched.
It's not just the power, either; It's organization and across-the-board standards. Most Games For Windows now tell you what WEI you need, and what WEI you have, when you look at them in the "Games" folder. And games are all starting to standardize controls, even supporting the Xbox 360 controller natively, which puts PCs on par with consoles in some ways they formerly lacked, and makes them better in others in which they've always excelled.
I'm betting eventually we'll come full-circle, and a major console will ship with a wireless keyboard, mouse, and control pad, and be equally at home playing games and doing "normal" computer stuff like web surfing, office productivity tools, and performing media functions. They'll shun disc-based games in favor of downloads and local storage.
We're almost there now. If PS3 and Xbox 360 were more supportive of keyboard/mouse, and didn't rely so heavily on the disc-based games, we'd essentially be able to count both consoles and their online game stores as the evolution of Steam.
Frankly, I'm surprised there ISN'T a Steam-based gaming console yet. Plug it in, turn it on, give them your credit card number, and download the games you want on the spot.
Yeah... The gaming PC is due for a comeback, but it will be slightly different from the homemade projects the old-school gaming geeks so cherished. It will be shinier, cheaper, and easier for the average end-user to manage. Graphics cards will be slide-in, easy-to-upgrade accessories instead of "open the case and install drivers" tech challenges.
When console and gaming PC meld into one thing that takes the best from both worlds, it will be the pinnacle of gaming, and old-style consoles will be abandoned as gaming solutions. People will maintain a gaming pc for games and media in the living room, and a netbook for mundane stuff.
