DIY robot mask uses iPhone display to lip sync your drunken Halloween slurrings
You know, after getting beat up last year at the Engadget HQ Halloween party for daring to dress up as an iPod, we're ready to exact a little bit of revenge with this most excellent robot mask idea. The idea is simple enough: it simply pairs the MouthOff app with a cardboard box and tinfoil, but the results speak (and lip sync) for themselves. Check out the video how-to after the break.

Ooooooo Kaaaaayyyy.......
i still dont understand why people waste their time developing these stupid apps.
Stuff like this just fuels the idea that Engadget scrounges the internet for anything iPhone/Apple related just to keep them in the newsfeed.
They wont post stories on stuff in the past like Photosynth or the World-Wide Telescope project or on software because it "isnt a gadget", but You-Tube trash goes right to the front...because they used an iPhone.
Yeah..ok.
it if was a soldered together pots and pans robot maybe...
More epic Engadget fail.
Intergalactic planetary
Planatary Intergalactic.;
Soooo random...
Not to mention, at a loud party this thing will be totally useless!
Nah, this is random:

cripes! is that one of our new overlords? i'm a-scared!
50cm by 75cm
i completely agree.
Then I'm sorry for your wife... :?
He should definitely be sued by The Mighty Boosh.
Thanks, I now have coffee on my monitor.
That's actually quite an odd resemblance!
Still.. it beats the effects on Dr WHO
Maybe some of the classic Doctors's effects.
But the new series on BBC uses conputer grafx, and realy good costume techonology now. It is on par with Star Trek special effects.
@Matthew Peel You are completely right and I have added a note in the video.
i wated my time here
This is possibly the dumbest article I've ever seen on Engadget.
Cardboard box robots, not news.
Apps that make a mouth open and close, not news.
and iPhone that is in a cardboard box robot with a mouth that opens and closes...AMAZING.
wait a minute....
He never explained the laser! Did he tape it and then cover it in aluminum foil too? I guess we'll never know.
This project is so complicated I'm so glad he explained the rest of it step by step. :-)
1.5 lols
This look like Michael Myers
What an Awesome Idea!!
Until you get a phone call from your mom / & or with your limited vision you get jumped and have your expensive phone stolen.
But you know, still totally awesome
Also, what a complete waste of a box! Save that junk for a couple months and put it to better use!!

Nice idea but being bothered to put that much effort in is crazy!
The app is pretty cool though. Thanks for that idea. ;)
VERY slow news day...
Are you sure that you *dared* to dress up as an iPod? Don't you mean that *everyone* dressed up as an iPod?
Android?
Was this "costume" conceived and constructed while drunk?
And why not? You are suppose to be drunk'ish on these occasions aren't you?
Does it really need 4:06 minutes to explain this? Really, one line should suffice, ad 25 secs of how it looks, done.
That's an expensive primary school art project.
I can just picture the next apple ad "Want to look the a complete prat on halloween? There's an app for that." I mean come on, we're not all 5 year olds, even though I suppose some of those apple fanboys have that mental age.
I'm a Windows 7 user, but this sort of comment makes me think:
***There was a dude who tattooed the Zune logo on himself, and Engadget covered it.***
So who's side has the low mental age here?
It is the distant future. The YEAR 2000. All human life has been eradicated. There is only one kind of dance....the Robot. No, two...two kinds of dances, the Robo-boogie.
It doesn't look like Daft Punk. We wanted one's like Daft Punk!
idk if im insane but i couldnt stop laughin at when he said now we r going to do this, and its done a second later.... hilarious!
Ignore the whiners. I love this!
Mmmm, Thai Sweet Chilli [sic] flavored chips sound good. I guess you have to speak the queen's english to be able to buy these "crisps", so Frito Lay needs to get off their fat American asses and start selling me these immediately.
Does anyone see the problem with getting a phone call or text when your at a party or walking around? I know even when I'm out with friends, I spend the night texting and calling others to get updates on where the best place to be is. I guess if your an odd person who walks around with 2 iPhones its a moot point, but who does that?
I think you only use this at home.
Got to love the banter... Nearly as funny as the post.
It's a classic article. It makes the world go round, added to that it's nice to see mouthoff being used and abused. Mouthoff!!!!!!!!! The worlds most succesful unsucessful app!!
the humans are dead
He could have been Bender
the sales that MouthOff™ got from this post were unreal, over 900 in 1 day!!! driving it up the charts..

Omg the face at 2:50 is haunting. It's funny, I'd give a fifty-nine-pee for it.
I for one welcome our aluminum-foil-over-a-cardboard-box overlords
