T-Mobile BlackBerry Onyx press image leaks out
The BlackBerry Onyx hasn't exactly kept itself a secret in the past few months, so it's no surprise that we're seeing what looks to be the official press image and release from T-Mobile well before the handset's launch. No big surprises here, really -- it's still a 3G mashup of the Bold and the Curve 8900 with that new optical trackball -- but apparently RIM's preloading it with the Amazon MP3 store, so that's slightly interesting. From what we can tell, it's due in early November, but pricing is still a mystery -- hopefully RIM and T-Mobile have saved the best surprise for last.

OH MY GOSH, it looks just like... A BLACKBERRY!!!
that's exactly what i thought. LOL.
Is that a bad thing?
Would you rather it looked like a squash?
Lol that's the same thing I thought!! Haven't BBs looked the same for the last 5+ years?
Another blackberry model! I guess RIM became the new Trade Federation (Star Wars f.y.i. DUH!!!) and are just building battle droids to conquer the universe!
Just once they should put the keys on the top and display on the bottom. Just for the hell of it.
@ Danny P
yeah I said the exact the same thing about computers and for some odd reason it still has a monitor and a keyboard. Odd?? Oh and I also bought a Calculator and OMG, there it is again, a screen and a keyboard!!!!!
Why does anybody even bother leaking BlackBerry images? We all know what they are going to look like. It's like leaking an iPhone image.
Is it just me, or do all Blackberry's look exactly the same?
No I believed you've stumbled on to something.
No I believed you've stumbled on to something.
@LongshotX Looks like you stumbled upun some deja vu.
LOL. Not it's not just you. Although I'm iffy on the Trackpad.
Yup, every time I see a new one shown it just looks the same as the old ones to me. How thrilling!
total iPhone ripoff.. RIM has no pride...
Umm... I just said that?
looks exactly like every other one of its kind. i fail to see a difference.
Then you're blind if you can´t see the difference between a circle and a square right in the middle of the blackberry.
It looks different to me. Smaller form factor, Optical Trackpad, more Memory, etc is a major improvement over a nearly perfect phone.
Tell me again about the physical difference between then iPhone 3g and 3gs?
I can see Memory increases as well.
KMAN, I agree that there are changes, but what I don't get is the different model names. An iphone is still that when changed - an iphone. The Blackberrys seem to have a bunch of different models that all appear almost identical. Therefore, I just don't think the iPhone analogy works.
ha. Yeah, I agree Tour, Bold, Onyx are sill names but its better then simply 9630,9000, 9700, etc.
Who really cares about how much the look changes so long as it works. We should be more interested in Processing Power, Memory, Screen Resolution, Battery life, etc rather then how much it looks like another one of their devices.
I like the idea of a flip/slide QWERT keyboard such as the Pre but I still think any moving parts open the door for more issues which is why the Optical Tackpad is a move in the right direction. Bottom line is BlackBerry got it right off the bat with the simple screen/QWERT configuration and they have been slowly improving it over time (ie the Blackberry Magnum (QWERT with a touch screen)) so give them some respect.
can someone please tell me how good a blackberry trackpad is..i have only used the trackball on my 8330
I've heard generally good reviews so far. Never had it in my own hands though.
Believe me, ANY kind of trackpad is good. I don't know, but me and the trackball, we just don't get along. With the pad, I feel it is more stable to use, like scrolling on the Zune, or the E72.
I have a T-Mo BB 8520, its pretty much a 8900 with a 320x240 screen, 2 meg camera, and a trackpad.
I really like the trackpad, it seems responsive, and feels good.
I used to do service and repair for Sprint, so I've had tons of experience with faulty BB trackballs, and that was what kept me away from BB's before. The first time I saw a Blackberry with a trackpad, I fell in love though. I've had my 8520 for almost 2 weeks, I'm really happy with it so far.
It takes some time to get used to, but it works better because it doesn´t get stuck from dirt from your greasy fingers.
Still waiting for a pearl flip with the optical trackpad.
This looks good, but I WANT TEH FLIP PHONE.
test
Hi my love!!!!
I've never understood the term crackberry. Do people actually like using these things? Huffingberry maybe.
I'm pretty sure the term 'crackberry' is based on a cliché of blackberry users, suggesting they are obsessively checking their device for new emails/messages etc almost like getting a fix (like a crack addict :P). Could be wrong though!
Excellent email support and blackberry messenger have something to do with this. It's just ridiculously easy to stay connected, making people seem like addicts while they constantly message and email people.
F*ckberry. Next.
Um... RIM, how about something actually new? Or make you existing lineup really cheap? On AT&T: Nokia E71x =79.00, BB Curve 8900=149. what is that much better?
3G, WiFi, more memory.....If they throw in OS 5 and a GOOD (decent is no longer acceptable) browser it might delay my N900 purchase a year or two. Of course the $600 price tag on the N900 might delay it as well.
Blackberry = the Borg. Everyone looks the same and acts the same...resistance is futile.
sorry, did you say "blackberry" or did you say "iphone", i missed it
my tour is jealous
at least it was until it remembered it was on verizon and the onyx is on TMo
for everyone saying this is the same as every blackberry, do your homework before you talk
the hardware as well as software on the 9700 bold onyx is completely different
faster and better
smaller than its bold predecessor
optical trackpad vs the trackball
not to mention introducing os 5.0 officially
(p)leather back cover
more onboard memory
the list goes on
other differences from other bb's (though same as the first bold)
include different keyboard
location of side/top buttons
but yes, this is a blackberry, so why would they want to change the look for such a well-loved device?
dont judge a book by its cover
was really hoping this would come to AT&T first... fingers still crossed that maybe they'll do a joint launch for T-Mobile/AT&T in the same way they did the Tour on Verizon/Sprint.
i'm pretty sure at&t is still gonna get the onyx first...keep in mind this is a leaked image...
Whats with the Tmo release!?!? Tmo sucks! Can AT&T get a blackberry with the trackpad soon, please......my bold's trackball is going crappy.
Saying "T-Mobile sucks" is like saying "The weather sucks." The weather is different everywhere. Some people like hot, some people like cool. Why does it suck?
I like T-Mobile because they have great coverage where I live and the best rates by far. I don't like their late 3G rollout.
This looks like a great phone, by the way!
Strange.
I have an iPhone on AT&T and a Curve 8900 on T-mo. I travel often. T-mo sucks in some places, AT&T sucks in others. But given equivalent coverage? T-mobile is wayyyy better. Coverage footprint? Not as broad. Coverage quality? In many places, far better. And then there's UMA which works in places neither AT&T *nor* T-mobile networks reach. Gotta love being underground in a basement and being the only one with a working phone.
Finally, a 3G Blackberry for T-Mobile!!!
My 8320 is about to be retired.
Ditto! My 8320 finally has a suitable successor! The 8900 was close, but the lack of 3G (mainly) was just not enough reason for me to "upgrade." I knew RIM and T-Mobile could do better - glad I waited.
I could care less who gets it first - you just bring your sexiness on over to T-Mobile whenever you're good and ready.
I like it.
funny. just like iphone users. they all act high and mighty. their phone is the best, period. no phone can touch it no matter what. lol.
Well, that's IPhone users, they go on other phone threads and criticize other people's preferences. That's one of the reason why I sold my IPhone and rid of my IPod and got a Zune. Don't want to end up into a douche. All my friends that have IPhone always brag about how good their phone is and I always had to remind them that I HAVE ONE TOO SO SHUT UP ALREADY.
