AT&T gets with the program, offers unlimited calling to 'A-List' numbers
Remember how ECON 101 taught you that competition was good? 'Tis true! Long after Alltel introduced the idea of giving customers unlimited calling each month to a select list of numbers, AT&T is mimicking Verizon's Friends & Family and T-Mobile's myFaves offerings with its new "A-List with Rollover." Subscribers with individual Nation plans of $59.99 or higher can phone up their very own VIP cast without tapping into their monthly bucket of minutes, theoretically allowing that rollover pool that you never, ever use to grow even larger. For individuals, you'll be able to select up to five domestic phone numbers (mobile or landline) to call for free, while FamilyTalk customers with plans of $89.99 or more can select up to ten numbers. As with competing plans, AT&T users will be able to manage their A-List online and change them anytime, though new numbers do take 24 hours to register. The time to field bids on securing a coveted spot within your own A-Team is now, with the gratis feature opening up to all on September 20th.

This is so awesome. I pay about $180/mo for AT&T but I won't qualify.
My wife and I have iPhone 3Gs and my kid has a RAZR
$59.99/mo base plan
$20.00/mo to have the other 2 phones on the plan
$60.00/mo for two iphone data plans
$30.00/mo for Unlimited Text Messaging on all phones
Nice.... F*** you AT&T.
you forgot the killer TAX. I have a very similar plan w/AT&T..
I feel your pain....the wife and I both have a 3Gs as well....and she is the one that burns up most of the minutes
you do qualify, becuase you have like those additonal lines which count as your plan, i presume.
No, he doesn't qualify.
He's got a $59.99 plan, but that's a family plan (the only ones that let you add a line). This requires a $89.99 plan, not $59.99 + extra charges to bring it up to $89.99
this is hilarious to read...all the hate for at&t, but when verizon does the same thing they get praised for it. stop hating on at&t so much for no reason and get a life...i mean seriously what verizon does at&t does, what at&t does verizon does...with the exception of rollover minutes and a cheaper prepaid unlimited plan. you losers need to wake up and realize that at&t is no more expensive than verizon is and if verizon had a phone like the iPhone their network would be just as crippled because of the data use
And here's another scenario that makes me say (tentatively) f*** you AT&T...
My rate plan is 59.99 (single plan). But I also have a discount thru my employer (15%), which is only applied to the voice part of the plan, nothing else. Normally they consider my "rate plan" to be 59.99 (this is what my bill shows, the discounts are subtracted at the bottom). But when I go to the eligibility page for this, it shows my rate plan as being only $50.99 (discount applied).
This is contradictory to the way they bill me, but hey, they figured out a way to screw me out of this program despite being a customer over 5 years, multiple high end PDA devices purchased, PDA data plan, etc etc.
and of course…..I’m on the FamilyTalk 700 Plan, and this is only good for the FamilyTalk 1400 plans and higher
Verizon did this too... the only plans "Friends and Family" are available on are the ones that have enough minutes that it doesn't matter. Kind of annoys me that AT&T is using the same model, since I'm most likely going to drop my FamilyTalk 1400 down to 700 anyway to save $20. But what do you expect? Them to actually give out something for free that would benefit the customer?
I have racked up 13000 rollover minutes...........it would be nice to sell my minutes or trade them in for goods or credits.
Bah, replies are posting to wrong posts.
...and again americans get screwed by their operators. So sad when you think how much rest of the world is paying for their calling and data plans etc.
This + Google Voice WITH voice activated dialing would be a nice setup. Blocking Google Voice numbers will make life complicated for AT&T.
Really lame... I never use my rollover minutes...Always have over 1200 of them on my 450 minute plan.
Looks like its available for iPhone according to the T&C (its not excluded)

I'm with you, this needs to be offered on ALL contract plans to be useful. They're likely hoping some people will raise their plans, but with effective call managing and rollover minutes, I'm sticking with the $40 plan. The extra $20 would also likely add on extra taxes in my area, too much to swallow for just 5 numbers, at this time.
Cool, I can add my best friend... My Google Voice Number.
How would Google Voice help you???
I guess the"A" in "A-List" means A-holes because I think that's what AT&T is trying to take their customers for.
Take that Google Voice!
Something Interesting I just noticed when looking into the A list thing. I logged into my account and selected "Change Rate plan" And I noticed the following: That 900 min $59.99 plan is now $50.99 making it not eligible for the A list for new customers. Old customers that are still under contract and paying $59.99 will be able to take advantage of it im assuming. The next up plan is 1350 min for $67.99.
The following is copy and pasted from that page...
Originally Monthly Cost
Nation 450 w/Rollover® Minutes $39.99 $33.99 450 5000 Unlimited
Nation 900 w/Rollover® Minutes $59.99 $50.99 900 Unlimited Unlimited
Nation 1350 w/Rollover® Minutes$79.99 $67.99 1350 Unlimited Unlimited
Nation Unlimited $99.99 $99.99 Unlimited Unlimited Unlimited
oops nevermind the above comment :) I just realized that is after a discount due to my employer hahaha.. DISREGARD
Yep, just had the EXACT same thing happen to me. I have the 15% discount too, and even though my bill always shows my rate plan as $59.99 (and the discount gets subtracted at the bottom section), for THIS particular instance they decide to call my rate plan $50.99 instead. CLASSY.
Id be surprised if nobody already mentioned this but with tmobile you can only change the myfaves once a calendar month. dont confuse the people, engadget.
This is such a crock of Shiite!!!!!! Im a regular customer & im being told that i must upgrade my family plan to $89.99 get this deal. So I must spend an extra $30 bucks to get free mins... WOW!!!! Bravo ATT, Bravo......
Just to make it clear, this DOES NOT apply to an iPhone with a 450-minute plan, even though you're paying $70/month (including data).
It would have cost AT&T very little to make this available to all iPhone subscribers and thereby help mollify some of their haters (including myself), but that would have been too intelligent to expect from those f*!kers.
I have added my A-list. I have the 89.99 plan with 2 iPhone 3GS. My wife uses the majority of our 1400 min, and a few months we have already dipped into the rollover mins (we still have about 4,000). I have no problem adding both our GV numbers, yes they work, and letting her add 7 or 8 of the other "spots." Now I have 1400 mins to use, and she can call all her friends, family for free.
