iPhone / iPod touch OS 3.1.1 is live!

That's right, gang -- OS 3.1.1 for iPhone and iPod touch is alive and well and we're installing it as we speak! We're looking forward to digging into all those Genius mixes, syncing options and, most importantly, a reasonable way to manage apps. Stay tuned!
Update: Yes, managing apps from iTunes is every bit as magical as we expected. The update is free to iPhone users and iPod touch users who've already shelled out the big bucks for OS 3. If you own a touch and you've held off, however, your patience has paid off -- the upgrade now only costs you $4.95. Huzzah!

The servers are taxed in a major way for all of those iTunes 9 and iPhone 3.1.1 hopefuls.
Why are all these recent posts only about APPLE and all related apple's CRAP???????????
@Daniel, not sure. Something must of happened today.
drown your sorrows in whatever way you see fit, engadget.
wait.... does iTunes' LP feature work the same way on the Touch/iPhone as it does on a computer? All of the same features are in tact? I don't believe that was clarified at the presentation.
Hold your horses for jailbreakers and unlockers!
Hmm, I must be on the ball today. I'm already done.
i'm bricked up and restoring... lame
Too bad I can't get iTunes over my Remote Desktop to update my iTouch when it's unplugged.
Let me clarify: I don't want to update; I want to download the update.
wait... you don't have rdp set up or you can't get itunes to function in an rdp session? because mine works fine.
Neither, he can't get iTunes to download the update in advance so when he gets home he can plug his iPod Touch in without waiting for the update to download.
@Aaron - O hai! My name is RDP! Better known as Remote Desktop Protocol. You must have missed me in the previous comments. Maybe you'd like to learn about me by going here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remote_Desktop_Protocol
The "Update your iPod" stuff doesn't activate until you plug in your iPod. He has rdp working, but can't download the update with iTunes since he probably has his iPod with him.
I am using a 2G 4GB iphone on 3.0.1, yes faked activation and on a cheap prepaid DATA plan so
I no wantee...
And the game of cat and mouse continues... Dev team?
Me neither. The benm.at tethering hack has been plugged. That rules out the update for me (at least for the time being)
It does NOT break Palm Pre syncing, just FYI.
Yes it does. Where did you read this? PreCentral members say it breaks.
nope, its broken

Who has time to install when we're all SO FREAKING ANGRY?!?!
Why are you angry all good news today. Apple failed to do anything worthwhile so the Zune HD will succeed and it's marketing should go good next to the iPod's repeated product line. Those that want a 64gb media player is a very small few.
are*
(and usually I only like drag and drop devices).
64GB of POOP apps!!
The goodness is shining upon us!
apple really messed up on this one, now im focusing on getting my windows 7 copy.
3.1.1? wtf happened to 3.1?
and "iPhone OS 3.1.1 Software Update for iPod touch"
that sentence doesn't make sense
wtf is going on here?
It seems that iPhone gets 3.1 and touch gets 2.1.1.
Whoops, my bad. Meant to say 3.1.1, not 2.1.1.
It was updated to iPhone for Workgroups.
I got it all installed... I'm just so mad about no camera/mic on the touch >:(
Why? That just means our iTouchs are just as valuable as the new generation of iTouchs.
And it didn't even cost $10 for updated firmware
3.1.2 will have a camera app for your touch... /sarcasm
oh hey there is already a flash app... so might as well
yep, and at this pace, 3.1.2 should be out by noon...
It will be enabled in the next software update
3.1.1?
Have I missed 3.1?
:s
the update for my 3g is showing 3.1 not 3.1.1
yeah, i downloaded it for my 3G[S] right after the event closed and got 3.1, but just 10 mins ago my touch 2G got the 3.1.1....
havnt installed yet.. but yea suprised... wondering if im the only one that got 3.1 for the 3GS.... and wonder what they fixed in the quick update...
$5? Are you kidding?
http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/software-update.html
It didn't charge me anything, but I already have 3.0.
Maybe that was $10 well spent...
i didn't get charged for it...updating iPod touch 2G right now.
I think that's only if you're not already on 3.0. If you have a touch and you're on OS 2.0, this only costs $5. That's nice seeing as how I paid $10 for 3.0. :(
it's free if you bought 3.0, and $5 if you didn't. so it's actually cheaper if you waited. but yeah it's stupid that touch users pay more on the front end and then have to pay for updates.
if you don't have 3.0 probably
Yeah, it's bullshit. I want my $5 back. If I would've waited a few months, I would have gotten more updates for cheaper. They really should issue those of us who paid $10 for 3.0 a $5 credit. Not trying to be whiny, but I'm calling shennanigans here.
It's free for 3.0 users.
Yeah, but iPod Touch users on 3.0 paid $10 for it. Now ipod touch users on previous versions get 3.1.1 for $5, which includes everything from 3.0, thus saving them $5. Shenanigans, I tell you!
iPod Touch owners come out wayyyyy ahead. Yes, you pay more up front and, yes, you pay (a paltry) $5 or $10 for OS updates but Apple isn't into your pocket for more every month as part of your AT&T service plan, either. It'd be nice gesture for them to forego the nominal OS charges, sure - but over its lifetime your iDevice is still much, much less expensive than the iPhone.
So I called Shenanigans to the Apple support team. (Through the email link within "problems with music downloads" category on support site.) To my surprise, they actually gave me 5 free music downloads. I was just writing in to bitch, and they credited me 5 music dl's. Even though I don't buy music through iTunes (low quality bitrates), I totally appreciate the gesture.
anything new with bluetooth for the 3gs? like voice control over bluetooth or maybe even AVRCP?
