NEW???
My current ipod classic is a 160gig... and it's far from new!
I was expecting atleast 250gb if they still have the classic out.
pass.
Apple failed with the iPod Classic refresh. I was expecting 250GB at the most. This really sucks. Guess I'll stick with my 2007 Classic for now!
They punched in 40 extra GBs for the same price and you're unhappy about it?
Exactly! I got my iPod classic at year a year ago and it's 160gb. This is false advertising from Apple. Time to jump ship and get a Zune! *cough*
Yeah, and it was far more expensive than this one. Welcome to electronics, buddy.
This one is just as thin as the 80/120gb version, I suppose. I'd love to see a 250gb version with wifi syncing though...
finally they bring it back....
I was just thinking that... my classic is 160Gb too...
@Shinigami
The iPod Classic they released two years ago came in 80GB for $200 and 160GB for $250 IIRC on the pricing. When they did the refresh last year, it was just a 120GB for $250. This years "new" model is probably the model from two years ago with some updated firmware. Honestly it's nothing special.
And to correct myself, it's just as thin as the 120GB model from last year and the 80GB model two years before. So they just rereleased the 160GB model from a couple of years ago that's thinner, update firmware, and updated innards that no one will notice.
exactly! i was wondering what was the point of getting rid of the 160 to begin with. i have a 160 gb black classic and was so smug about everyone else getting 120 gb. damn it.
yeah they took it off the market last year because a low sales. i had to do a warranty exchange on mine and the kid looked at it like it was completely foreign to him. he explained he had never seen one because he was fairly new and they stopped selling that model before he was hired.
glad to see they finally brought it back though!
But guys! It's an Apple product so you should be happy that you even get technology from 2007.
Maybe the next refresh they'll delete the color screen and touch wheel and bring back the touch buttons from the 3G iPod!
(which, btw, I loved and I still think the touch buttons from the 3G are about 1000x better to use if you're using your iPod in the car since they only require a light touch instead of trying to click the wheel without making your iPod fall out of it's mount...and they're lit so it's a lot easier for everyone in the car to see what to press if they wanna change the track)
The problem is it will now be harder to identify between the two revisions.
My current IPOD video CAN be moded to fit 250 gb
WOW ........they mast be never heard about Archos that boost their devices to 500Gb and today with the news about 650Gb who knows:-)
disappointing seeing how there are 250gb 1.5 drives now that should be inside of this instead.
Dint they have the 160 classic when the classic line launched? Then apple took it away for the 120GB, Now there bringing it back?
The old 160 giggers have two disc platters, and were thicker. I'm assuming this is a single disc and the same thickness as the old 120GB model.
I already have a 160GB iPod Classic. I was surprised to see it go. Glad it's back, but I could use a 200GB one...
As someone who just 'bought' a classic (OK I got one basically for free with the Mac to School promotion), I hope they do not get rid of the darned thing until the can get over 100 gigs of ram packed into the diskless ipods. And I hope they always have a scroll wheel ipod as I find it a better interface than the touchscreen for when I am just wanting to listen to music but can't navigate through my touchscreen (driving, biking, etc).
I have no love of the hard disk, and I really do not need it to be so big, so if it eventually disappears with a Nano on steroids, that is fine with me.
Why does anyone need to carry around 160GB of music?
Lossless music and/or high quality video files. Both take up space. And some people must have lossless or nothing.
As for me, I like videos but would likely go with the Touch anyway, for the bigger screen, and forgo the storage.
point taken and adapted.
Actually,
A local bar I frequent uses the 160Gb iPod Classic to show music videos. They have several days of videos on it and it works great!
No need for a DJ, just a a couple of playlists for different times of day and weekends. And since the videos were purchased, the can legal show it.
@kjb434: are you sure of that? You can usually find on the fine lines of the legal contract that music or videos you purchase are for private use only, you don't have the right to display them on public places. It's not something very easy to enforce of course, but these places usually need a different kind of license.
Only 160 GB?
My music collection wouldn't fit on anything mobile right now. It's annoying and tedious to have to create manual sync playlists.
Because Wagner's operas were just too huge and ominous
Don't start this shit AGAIN. Every time a new music player comes out, somebody with two Shakira CDs and a Best of Simply Red asks how people could possibly need more capacity than an ipod shuffle.
Because some of us like having all our music with us and not having to pick 'n' choose what to sync!
Was sad to see the 160 go, but glad it's back, as I can now carry my entire collection with me (just).
Unfortunately, it doesnt give me any room for expansion :( Would've preferred to see 250GB.
Still, thankful for small favours.
"Marmite turkey" rules for that comment!
name me one person that has 40,000 songs and knows the name of all of them
uh duh i fill it up n keep it to sell for $300 go buy another one next day ready to sell and make 50 rinse repeat keep profiting lol
i'm confused and intrigued. do explain!
wat
Has anyone really ever been as far as decided to do more like?
Seriously, what did you say?:')
Good, I hope that $50 goes a long way towards the lawsuit brought on by the RIAA. Dumbass.
Who still buys the iPod classic?
people who wants to carry more than music (files)
and people who want more than 32 gb (now 64 gb) of storage and don't want to break the bank. your question is kind of foolish.
Anyone who has more than 16gb of music, and doesn't want to pay for an ipod touch, or anyone with more than 64gb of music.
people who want an iPod for MUSIC and files. Not for people who want a video camera, games, etc.
Does this mean all us 160 gig current owners get the new 160 gig software???
This question demands an answer
That answer is probably "no", but I hope so
What new software?
@divino: the software from the last generation of Classics, with Genius, and the other improvements that I can't remember right now, if they actually existed. But Genius, anyway.
Rather disappointing. What about better battery life, nicer screen, FM radio etc? I'll stick with my 80 GB for now.
The original iPod Classic lineup offered a 160GB unit but it was plagued with problems. My friend has one and it drives him crazy with hard drive problems. The hard drive couldn't keep up and kept skipping or something like that. I wonder if they switched hard drive vendors.
I'm pretty sure that was a software issue.
I have a 160gb Classic that sucked for a few months.. then Apple updated the firmware and now I don't have problems. It would stall and pause all the time, had something to do with a background process that updated the coverflow or something.
