iPod shuffle 2G is no more
Every highly-polished stainless steel lining has a cloud, it seems, and today's music player overhaul by Apple has been no different. Amidst all the excitement about moderate improvements and video cameras, we've also had to say goodbye to an old friend. Having been kept around for six months after the release of its successor, the second gen shuffle has finally succumbed, leaving the newly colorful 3G option all on its lonesome in the minimalist music lover space. Ah well, if you really have your heart set on the old rocker, refurb models are still available at Apple's online store, though probably not for long.

Ok.
You mean the Shuffle with actual controls on it is the one they toss out?
R.I.P.
lol
@Look_Around_You
Yes. The much simple shuffle that people can use any 3.5mm headsets on it.
I won 3 of these. Besides having that silly 3.5mm charger, this is probably the best mini DAP on the market. An LED screen woulda made it better but that would have also taken the guessing game out of it.
AHAHAH!!
Dont worry nubs
I have 2 clones that I got for $9.99
DealExtreme is where to go if you want these bad boys for cheap...
"Dont worry nubs"
"Nubs"? That's a new put-down?
What's next, "dimples"?
Shut up you dimple.
@WinXP >> "You do realize there stocks went down today, right?"
And Apple's stock will go up after they sell 1 million iPods by Christmas...
How's Microsoft's stock? $25 !!! What's their excuse... they have over 90% of all computers in the world running their software...
Overall a good day for Apple,
Wish i owned some stock, =/
Poor microsoft lol
Are we back in 2007?
You do realize there stocks went down today, right?
You did see that their stock went down today, right? Besides, I wouldn't buy AAPL now. It's almost at its all time high... should have gotten in in January.
MSFT is doing just fine.
ಠ_ಠ
LOL apparently none of you have seen Apples business plan and how well their products are selling...
LOL obviously you are an apple fanboyz and here is my recommandation to you, never do any investment yourself or give out investment advice. A lot of time, if not most of the time, the market doesn't react that way you think "logically" should happen when some company's earning is up or selling a lot of their products. It's basic stock market 101.
if anything, today is a much lackluster day for Apple. None of the item announced are new or exciting. Everything that is announce is a very obviously progression to a product that is really fallen behinde on growth. If nothing change drastically, we'll be seeing less and less excitment come September and it'll just be another announcement on Engadget like when Samsung announced another LCD monitor and everyone goes "Meh."
This is a natural progression as market leader starting to get lazy and spend mininal effort to keep up their lead. Then one day another company suddenly comes up with an amazing product that will blindside the market leader and beat it to death. It has happened before and Apple is not going to be immue to this effect, no matter how great Steve Job is. In consumer electronics industry, once you start getting lazy and stop innovating, you'll just get replaced really fast by the next up and coming company. Apple may have blindsided everyone with a mp3 player, but now it may be subjecting itself for a beating from another company soon.
"investors typically sell Apple stock after a launch event"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8245523.stm
Makes sense as the price would have gone up in anticipation of the event. I would recomend Microfoundations of Financial Economics by Yvan Lengwiler.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
We hardly knew ye
Any of the shuffle's look poor now in comparison to the features and capacity of the sansa clip plus
A good day for Apple? Why didnt the touch get a camera, that makes NO sense what so ever, they must have had an issue in production.
The iPod classic has the same capacity as it did in 2007 and as everyone knows the shuffle is ridiculous. If the controls are anything like the iPhone headest they are fiddily and annoying.
iTunes 9 looks gross and didnt introduce anything groundbreaking, i am so sick of the blue note logo. What happened to the different colours with each release??
The Nano had the only decent upgrade.
iTunes 9 is slightly better with Windows support. At least it maximizes correctly, and now has proper taskbar support for Windows 7. It still needs to properly match the theme of Windows, and not be a dog, but we're getting there. Slowly...
to sell more iphone. duh.
The Nano's "camera" lacks the ability to take a still photo, how is that even remotely close to a good upgrade? Apple can kiss my ass. Please make decent upgrades!
Nano's camera could only have done 640x480 stills -- most people would then complain "Nano camera is teh suck" (and probably equate that suckiness to the 3GS's camera too -- which is actually decent).
The first generation Shuffle was the best Shuffle. It has the USB connector right on it people! It was like a flash drive that played music!
I am happy that someone else shares that opinion. I wish they just made the first gen smaller and added a clip.
Yes, I agree totally. There was something about that form factor, and the whole USB thing, was amazing. Still the best.
they had those before the ipod nano, you know. my friend had one, almost as small, i forget the brand though.
Clip would have worked, but the second gen was best for running. First gen required a case...
Regardless, won't be getting a 3G shuffle when it is time. Sansa Clip?
totally agree, but the sound quality was crappy !
Oh the memories! ...of seeing that my roommate owned one, and me laughing in his face.
Did said roommate get rid of the Shuffle? Or did you get rid of him?
I think, his roommate got rid of him.
We can only hope.
I expect some more Sansa Clip sales
R.I.P
The only shuffle I ever would consider buying.
You will be sorely missed.
Same here...
*heads to eBay*
I kinda liked the bubble gum stick one, but this was a great one as well, with the clip, but way to small for me, I would lose it in no time.
And the world laughs...
Yeah, we are literally *pissing* ourselves laughing at Apple's 73% market share and combined sales of 220 million iPods. It is just so hilarious!
You can believe, if you want, that hundreds of millions of consumers are wrong, and that they've bought devices which are no good for them and won't do what they want ('cause they've all been "brainwashed" by drinking "kool-aid", natch) and that a few dozen pious idiots on Engadget are right.
OR you can believe that consumers generally buy things which *are* able to do what they want, and that the few pious idiots on Engadget who try to pretend that because a device does not have feature X then it is completely useless, are in fact genuinely idiots who have no idea that different people have different needs from devices.
I know which side I'm on.
U mad?
Damn! The 2G is just the 5h1t for working out. Pair of Sennheiser CX300s that stay in my ears on the treadmill and don't sound like cr4p. Looked at getting one of the new ones, decided against it. Hopefulyl by time my battery dies, someone at Apple will have woken up to this dilemma!
Funny part is Archos just made a shuffle like device to compete. LOL Archos is so far behind its funny.
what is ipod shuffle ?
how is babby formed?
try yahoo answers lol
I'll never forget holding one in a closed fist and then opening it, revealing the tiny new iPod. Everyone I showed it to was amazed. I had received mine the day before they were released in stores.
Good story, bro.
So...take these broken wings and learn to fly again, learn to live so free.
Sigh.
