iTunes 9 bringing iTunes LP functionality, 'beautiful new look'
Ready to pay more for the same music? Good! We've just spotted some new "Deluxe Version" albums in iTunes, which apparently are part of the "iTunes LP" experience in the upcoming iTunes 9, if the album blurbs are to be believed. The albums pack in bonus material like art, videos and additional recordings. Sounds just like Cocktail to us, and we're sure Apple will be explaining it all soon enough.
Update: It's more or less official now, complete with a non-working "Download iTunes 9" button and everything. Apple's mainly touting the new interface for the store in this blurb, but we know it's just a front for taking more of our hard-earned cash and putting it in the hands of starving musicians. The nerve.

Apple's mainly touting the new interface for the store in this blurb, but we know it's just a front for taking more of our hard-earned cash and putting it in the hands of starving musicians. The nerve.
New features mentioned:
- Improved store navigation, including persistent navigation menu.
- Full window iTunes store. For times when that sidebar is just too much.
- Previews from anywhere in the store -- don't have to drill down to preview.
- iTunes LP includes lyrics, liner notes, video, photos and "more."
- iTunes Extras. It's like DVD extras, but with iTunes. Not clear if it includes director's commentaries, but let's hope.
- Genius Mixes. It's like Genius Playlists, but it plays forever like a radio station.
- App management, letting you set up and arrange your home screens on the iPhone and iPod touch. You can drag and drop to move certain apps or whole pages of apps.
- Home sharing enables file transfers between up to five local computers of songs, videos and even apps.
- You can send items in the iTunes Store as gifts, add them to a wishlist, and publish them to Facebook and Twitter -- look who's getting all social all of a sudden!
- It's available today.

Hey cool, some Windows 7 Jump List Support and a Play/Pause control on the Taskbar preview.
Where are these social networking features?
Not even that, wheres the UI? I don't see one. iTunes kinda reminds of Windows 3.1..
Ok, the whole "App Management" thing doesn't work for squat. It completely messed up my IPhone's screens. As soon as you hit "Sync" your apps position becomes completely shuffled. Thanks Apple.
Okay after I upgraded to itunes 9 and iphone 3.1 on windows 7 RC. my syncing speed slowed down. it now takes a long time to sync music, pod casts, basically everything...someone on apple forum suggested that i should "restore as new iphone" ..That didn't work either. I just wanted to thank apple for their F*** amazing new shiny peace of s**software!
hahahahah, ohh, that cracks me up.
New functionality? This thing has nothing. Nothing that would seriously make people consider moving from a Zune to an iPod. I mean, iTunes looks Archaic!! it looks like some caveman crafted it before anyone knew how to design nice pieces of software.
Can anyone explain the iPhone Configuration Utility file that is installed with the the new iTunes 9? What is it supposed to be used for?
Anyone else notice the integration into the Windows 7 toolbar?
THEY ADDED MADDEN 10 TO THE APPSTORE!
are you kidding me? it looks identical to zune market?
Installed iTunes 9 -- way too slow! Spinning beachball all the time -- example: just to go page down or page up. Restored 8.2. Thank God for Time Machine.
Itunes 9 works much faster for me. MB pro 2.53GHZ.
I downloaded zune marketplace and i see only a few minor looks that are like itunes.
The big news here is that Microsoft has entirely copied the multi-touch interface of the iPod and iPhone with its Zune HD. It appears that is all MS does since the inception of windows-- copy Apple R&D in a tortured knockoff version for the masses. The zune marketplace does some cool graphics i guess you would say for a few things but when 99% of all podcasts are on itunes, itunes has a ton more music plus more videos and movies and so forth and it just works with the ipod and iphone why go to zune?
I am looking right now at the zune marketplace and i looked at the first zune marketplace as well and if anything zune copied Apples design.
The thing is MS may have the PC market cornered for now but they will never overtake Nintendo in gaming or Apple in music. IF you like windows then more power to you. I just prefer something that works no viruses and just
The zune HD im curious if its running windows or something else. If its running windows watch out. I must say at least MS is learning that sometimes it pays to have a software to hardware all in one that just works with each other. They never had that with playsforsure and from what i hear the zune is not that great. I have seen the older zunes at the stores and they just look so old compared to the ipods and other mp3 players out there. But not having options is bad. NOt everyone wants a touch not everyone wants a nano. NOt everyone will want the zune hD. Some people love the shuffle. I do for mowing lawn and stuff i just want to clip it on and go its light and small and it plays my music. For beauty i love the Nano but for games the Touch.
The worst thing MS has done is the points system. I prefer and most people do the 1 click buy system from itunes.
Also sure renting your songs is ok but if i want to check out a bands album there are many places i can go listen to it then i can just go and listen to see if i like it. When i want music i want to keep it not rent it. Movies i want to rent music no.
The Xbox 360 loses money as well as the zune. The only thing MS makes money on is its windows and office software.
iTunes plus is gone. You cant upgrade your DRMed music anymore.
Correction to my comment
Its not gone but its not linked on the home page or anywhere else I can find
You can still get to it here

If you haven't noticed half of the comments are from windows fanboys who hunt down apple articles and find stupid ways to bag apple just because they're jealous of what we apple people have. i have thousands of songs and they all work perfectly fine and fast on my 2.4 ghz MB.
To be honest, this entire thread is filled with idiots from both sides who will argue that their particular software/platform is the best so that they can convince themselves that they made the right choice and that other people really care. Personally, I'm disappointed in iTunes 9 - why it continues to be written using Carbon when Snow Leopard has already been released is quite beyond me. I find it to be relatively slow and clunky on my 2.33GHz MBP and I can't say the updates to the iTunes Store are helping me yet (for example, you can no longer use the keyboard to move between tracks to preview), although they have finally added a Wish List feature.
wtf! the minimize button in tunes on the mac now longer minimizes to the mini player!!! I am not happy
[music plays] Just keep freezing, just keep hanging, just keep freezing, hanging, freezing. When were down, what do we do - we FREEZE, OH YES I LIKE TO FREEZE! [end music] iTunes 8: took 41:29 to watch a 41:29 tv show. iTunes 9: over an hour, due to all the freezing. And its running on a BRAND NEW macBook pro, not even 4 weeks old. Apple, get your act together and test your crap before you give it to us! Somewhere, all the respectable software developers are crying themselves to sleep. Apple, give us back iTunes 8 until you get this piece of junk working!!!
iTunes 8: AWSOME!
iTunes 9: EPIC FAIL!!!
OMG It looks like a copy of zune marketplace!.... Well better for us customers..... or not?
Ewwwwwww. That thing is UGLY on the Windoze.
So ironic Mac iTunes 9 changed the minimize button function to make it more Windows-like. Now to toggle between full window and Mini Player you have to hit an extra key. I downgraded to iTunes 8.2 because I was annoyed to the core with this change.
does anyone care about performance anymore these days? seems like software version numbers are inversely proportional to their performance and speed. i wonder how long it will be before apple forgets that itunes is still about playing music.
the spectrometer cranks up my 2ghz core2duo load to 50% - that's completely ridiculous.
don't u guys think in a positive way!!!!
Its good their giving it for FREE!!
And u are still Complaining...
So what?? If it can sync to your ipod an iphone and u can listen to music in it,just be happy.
Well Its good for me!!!
well some people actually care about how their computers and applications work. if my car only did first gear i wouldn't be happy that at least it's still driving either.
just reversed to itunes 8. spectrometer cpu load: 3.3% - 3.4%. did they hire microsoft guys for itunes 9? :/
