just wait 2 weeks, the 5xxx series is set to be released september 23rd. I was just about to get 2 4890 in crossfire but I'm gona hold out for DX11 hoping devs will actually use it this time since it has what devs were looking for in 10 and more (GPGPU standards, shader 5.0, tessellation, etc). check it out: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=20158
I'd say for the launch price of single 58xx you would be able to get two 4890. And I do not think that performance gap would be that huge. (e.g. 2x3870 are beating single 4870.)
Of course it's worth waiting if only for the usual price drop after next gen launch.
I hope they'd bring power management under control this time.
