Mac OS X 10.6.1 update now live
Well, that was fast -- just over week after Snow Leopard officially shipped, the first update's on the books. Nothing major in the changelog here, but we're told Flash has been updated to a newer, more secure version. Let us know how it goes for you, eh?
- Improves compatibility with some Sierra Wireless 3G modems
- Addresses an issue in which some printer compatibility drivers might not appear properly in the Add Printer browser
- Addresses an issue that might cause DVD playback to stop unexpectedly
- Addresses an issue that might make it difficult to remove an item from the Dock
- Resolves an issue in which the Command-Option-T keyboard shortcut would sometimes bring up the special characters menu in applications such as Mail and TextEdit
- Addresses instances in which auto account setup in Mail might not work
- Resolves issues when sending mail with certain SMTP servers
- Addresses an issue in which Motion 4 could become unresponsive
- Includes an update to Adobe Flash Player plug-in version 10.0.32.18

My '07 Macbook Pro 2.4ghz was really heating up more than usual when youtube or hulu was streaming. Activity Monitor showed flash player taking up 50-65% of the CPU and both fans jumped from 2000 to 5500-6000rpm...hopefully this update helps with that
I continue to think that the only thing that can help Adobe Flash on the Macintosh is a shotgun. I usually see it using up about 110% processor time on a 2.33GHz MBP so I tend to think that you're getting off lucky if you are only seeing 50-65%.
So it's safe to approach the snow leopard? Not sure whether to wait for another point update.
It's been working fine for me. But then, I didn't have any weird applications/plug-ins etc. running in 10.5 to cause problems.
All in all, I'm pleased with the upgrade. Most things seem a bit faster. I don't think we'll really start seeing the benefit until the big apps (Photoshop, Office, iLife, iWork etc.) start making use of GCD and OpenCL. Then it'll fly!
What about the 3d performance regressions? (50% slower than ubuntu in some games across all resolutions)
The update made it much worse for me... Maybe I'm just too used to MS's painless updates. Sure Macs have cool functionality, but in the end I need a stable OS.
You are being sarcastic, right?
No, I really think macs have cool functionality.
So what if finder doesn't work... The dock is so cool!
still having expose problems :(
oh comon you know that the problems snow leopard had, majority of the people could handle, it wasnt something big as you know... vista
What problems are you having with Exposé? Some things have been driving me nuts about Snow Leopard but I must confess that the changes to Exposé are rather welcome at the moment.
I hope this fixes the audio issue I am having on my 2008 Mac Pro. Each time I turn it on it switches from external output to internal speaker. It also switches each time I open an app. It's a pain in the butt. Only SL issue though.
How much does this update cost?
$0.
Thanks for asking.
My MBP is actually feeling quite sluggish after the update. I was a bit surprised about the unusually small updater package size, but I guess that goes along with Apple's space saving claim. My MacBook's relatively new battery (58 cycles) is getting no better than two and half hours on a full charge, with my old battery of 230 cycles getting the same. I used to get 4 with the new one under Leopard, but now SL is being a power hog. Thanks Apple, you made my extra battery purchase really worth the $130. Thanks.
So far, so good! :)
I know I'm in the minority when I say this, but I haven't experienced any problems in my transition from Leopard to Snow Leopard, that said, I just installed the update, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I wont have any issues now.
Same here. The only thing I can't use now is Saft (I prefer not to run Safari in 32bit mode). But I knew that going in.
My Mid-2007 iMac is definitely happy with the update.
I installed the update and as of yet ......notice very little difference, it seems to be the same with all the annoying bugs, instability sluggish animations and generally sillyness that well...wasnt there in leopard and shouldnt have been put in to give the devs something to make it progressively look better :P its just so silly.... they fixed things that where not broken now they have a os with bits glued on and jammed in to fit and other bits ...well we cant remember where they went so they go in a empty film canister that will just end up in the bottom of some draw filled with dead batteries.
it doesnt feel tight yet....it feels like they thought it would be a good idea to sack all the trusted reliable coders and employ some sexy looking monkeys to fill the void.
peace
me
OK everyone pay up. Its less then 3 weeks.
WOW an Update this fast i dont think that has bin done if im mistaken but all is working on my hackint0sh
Sweet. I was waiting for 10.6.1 and iTunes 9 to hit before I ordered my new MBP. Looks like I will be ordering in a couple of weeks so that they will hopefully both come preinstalled.
Anyone having issues with the install?
After it rebooted it just displays the spinny
MacBook Pro - Leopard.
this article lists all the Sprint and Verizon EVDO devices that already work using Snow Leopard's built-in WWAN support: http://bit.ly/1r5pNe
FINALLY. I have been waiting this long for a flash update!
I couldn't even turn on my Mac for fear of it being taken over by someone in Eastern Europe, to be used for nefarious purposes!
I still am not able to print through my Airport to my printer. Plugging my MBP into the printer directly works fine...but not OTA.
