Third-party Google Voice client hits the webOS App Catalog
It looks like it isn't just bluster from Palm when it comes to thinking differently about its app approval policy. Besides taking a pretty healthy stance on applications that deviate from its current standards, today 10 new titles have shown up for download... a Google Voice app being one of them. gDial Pro, a piece of software which started its life as a homebrew application, is now an official part of the beta store. The program lets you access Google Voice's full feature set (including a dialer), and no one seems very bothered by it. Here's hoping Palm keeps up the flow of new software to the Catalog (they're eating for two now) and they keep a healthy distance from rejection letters.

Johnny Appleseed.
Dyslexic much?
I think this is hilarious that they use the name "Jimmy Peachseed" when Apple always uses "Johnny Appleseed." Just another jab at Apple...
it's Seachpeed, not Peachseed, guys. get it right.
love it, love everything about it, getting it, buying stock, love it
It was only a matter of time before one of the many rejected iPhone apps made in on to the Pre. If Apple doesn't loosen up, they actually will start loosing customers to Palm.
Loosing brings an entirely different meaning to your sentence.
BTW, don't peaches have pits, not seeds? So it should be "Jimmy Peachpit". Wasn't that where they hung out in the old 90210?
Hell yes. I'm not upgrading my iPhone exactly because of this bullshit with google voice.
Apple is actually worse than Microsoft, fortunately they're weaker. Don't feed that monster.
Very good app. I use it all the time.
HEROES!
OMG!@#
Now that Sprint has unlimited Mobile-Mobile, using Google Voice actually eats up your minutes since none of your calls are free. It doesn't matter for most people though because Sprint plans have a ton of anytime minutes(at least the family plans).
On the other hand, some people get a Pick3/Pick5 "perk" by calling up Sprint and asking for it. Add your GV number to your Pick3 and you get unlimited calling.
You Sir,
Are a Genius!!!
*waiting for A-list"
Yeah I suspect that Palm doesn't get any pressure from Sprint about this sort of thing precisely because Sprint's plans are all pretty much unlimited at this point.
GV is still great for international calls though and of course still quite useful if you have pick 3 without one of the everything data plans (which at this point is pretty much either a crazy grandfathered plan you negotiated to have everything or a sero plan with pick 3).
And I suppose even if you have one of the any mobile plans if you have pick 3 with GV then you can call landlines as much as you want too. Although unless you're a business user I don't really see that many people calling landlines more than their included minutes anyway.
Jimmy Peachseed is a stalker! Dude - We don't have to communicate every few hours!
nice

And the bizarre GV/Apple situation looks that much... more bizarre.
Good on Palm.
I love the new 4:20 Wallpaper right underneath Simple Bible in the App Catalog.
gDial Pro did not work for me at all when I installed it as a homebrew app. I'll have to try it again now. I have been using dkGoogleVoice and it works great.
Nice Job Palm. Seriously. I applaud their willingness to approve apps that don't exactly mesh with their corporate vision (I am looking at you Apple!!!!!).
jesus, did apple patent 'john appleseed' too?
I like Android's implementation of Google Voice that doesn't have a dialer, it just intercepts outgoing calls and reroutes them automatically. Too bad it can't do the same with text messages, though.
Good to see this app released ! :)
I've had gDialPro for weeks already from the homebrew app listing. This is a great app and its great news to hear that developers are getting a lot of excellent quality apps featured on the Palm app catalog!
