Can't wait till Windows 7!! It's way better than Vista & XP combined!!
I'm loving my RTM version. Definitely couldn't go back to Vista or XP after this. Even more excited about the fact that I'll be able to hook Cablecards up to it myself without workarounds. Netflix is icing on the cake.
Scuse me but WTF are you doing on my internets?
I have a better version of netflix than netflix. :)
What different between Vista and Vista Pro (aka Win7)? Make is short please!
@Steve It's a different operating system version. XP was 5, Vista was 6, and now Windows 7 is 7. That should do it for ya.
@blueangel - actually, Windows 7 is version 6.1.
@ blueangel:
XP=5.1
Vista=6.0
Windows 7=6.1
I am the cheese. I am the best character in this film. I am better than both the balogna and the salami combined.
@ Mikeweezer and Peter F
You don't know if blueangel00100 was talking about NT kernel version. If we talk about consumer versions of Windows releases then she makes perfect sense.
1 - Windows 3.x
2 - Windows 95
3 - Windows 98
4 - Windows ME
5 - Windows XP
6 - Windows Vista
7 - Windows 7
@WixosTrix
Windows 95, 98 & ME did not use NT Kernels. The Kernel Version in Windows 7 is 6.1.
According to Mike Nash
"Simply put, this is the seventh release of Windows, so therefore "Windows 7" just makes sense."

@ Tory
I know NT is not part of ME, 98, 95, and 3.x which is why I was backing blueangel because there was no indication she was talking about NT kernels.
^ Yea...I meant @ Troy. My bad.
Does anyone have the manufacturer's RTM? Then you can find out.
..I think
unless they held back on the RTM and release the last features in an 11th hour update the night before W7 is shipped
It doesn't work that way. They can add new web functionality at any time, as they did with the IP TV beta in Vista.
I have the RTM, but they can do anything they want with a simple windows update...
I have the Professional addition from MSDNAA and it isn't there so I'm sure it will be in an update, like Internet TV.
It looks like Microsoft might have something worth announcing with win 7. As opposed to a certain fruit named company having events & announcing very little - all we got this year was a compass :(
To be fair, you also got OpenGL ES 2.0(Shaders anyone?) and a chip that's almost as good as Tegra. They may have fallen behind a bit on the features but it wasn't a complete wash.
yeah, but if MS plays this right, and the W7/Xbox/Zune HD/Marketplace integration 4some is pulled off perfectly, meaning that MS gets on its horse with releasing apps (and an SDK for apps) that run across all of those platforms, Apple might have a TON of catching up to do.
Apple didn't really come out with tons of new things but what they did come out with was pretty cool. I like the LP idea in iTunes and I'm slightly jealous that the Touch has a 64 GB capacity (hopefully the will push Microsoft to announce one very soon for the HD). I know I'll have the pleasure of seeing a shit load of people enjoy their stupid little video camera on their Nano's now here in San Francisco. Ha!
The first sentence gave me a headache.
Thumbs up on the Columbo choice.
"Just one more question...."
Amen. I've watched every available episode via Netflix, and Columbo has surpassed Jim Rockford and Quincy (both also available via Watch Instantly) in my pantheon of crime fighters.
But will it stream in HD?
I've been watching stuff on my 360 since the 720p stream is a massive step up from the YouTube quality video of Netflix on a computer, but I'd much rather use my computer if possible.
you mean that your xbox360 is better at upconverting the 480p stream to 720p then your computer/moniter is. :)
No, I mean actual 720p.
There's a whole slew of devices that get 720p video streams from Netflix's Watch Instantly library. Computers are limited to the crappy 480p streams.
http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/19/do-not-time-netflix-hd-streaming-shootout/
this is definitely not in the RTM I'm running. i'm still using vmcnetflix plug-in which works fine except for a few quirks.
Windows 7 NetFlix Instant Watch HD streaming CONFIRMED!
:D
Details?
Netflix ... it sucks that they chose Silverlight ... since it does not work well on my MacBook 1st gen ... the coreduo does not seem to be good enough for that ... too bad for me.
But I agree that this Windows7 seems pretty good... it works fine inside VirtualBox on my eeepc1000he ... surprising !
looks real nice, wish we could see more, possibly video even...cant wait till win7 though, its funny that they advertise tv on your pc but it looks nice on what i only can imagine is a 32" tv in the picture.
So, Microsoft is basically saying ... F-You to all Vista owners.
They could give updates like this to people who bought a Vista computer if they really wanted to.
I mean, they kinda screwed us with Vista and now they are trying to make it up to us with 7.
Vista's not as bad as people say it is, but it isn't that great either.
Vista already has Netflix streaming: http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/05/20/netflix-watch-instantly-comes-to-vista-media-center-not-extende/
Did you read the headline?
"Windows 7 to get a BETTER version of Netflix than Vista"
No... they're saying Windows 7 gets some new tech that Vista doesn't. Like you said, Vista wasn't a horrible operating system, they didn't cheat you. Now they're moving onto their next one and adding new features to that. It doesn't really make any sense to complain about not getting new features in a 2 year old OS because the brand new one will have them.
Normally, I would agree ... but they kinda screwed up with Vista.
Kinda like their Millennium Edition.
XP was around for over 5 years before Vista.
And now 7 comes after only 2 1/2 years.
I wonder what products/software in the future will be Windows 7 required.
Plus, this is just a Netflix update ... it's not like it's that big a deal to have this update for Vista.
If anything, Netflix probably would prefer it because it would entice more customers.
You may not want to complain, but I still can ...
... not that it's very important to have and not that complaining is going to do anything anyways, but who cares?
Freedom of Speech, baby!! Yeah!!
I'm guessing it might use some new API features in Windows Media Center(there is a new one for 7 after all), which is what makes it required. It would make sense and would make the exclusivity a little less... nefarious
maybe you're too young to know this, but 5 yeard between XP and Vista is an anomaly in the regular Windows release schedule.

ha! i did miss that. i've been on win7 for so long now i guess i assumed that anyone running vista and technologically in-the-know enough to want to integrate netflix with it, would surely know that, in addition to having exciting new features like this, win7 is just an all around better experience, even before you click the green button.
@ no thanks.
I've been around before Gates formed Microsoft.
And yes, I can search Wikipedia too.
Besides ... there's a reason they call it Windows 7, not Windows 17.
It's the 7th real version of Windows.
Vista really needs to die now along with XP. Whenever I fix someones computer now I just put Windows 7 on their machine now. We'll worry about activation after the 120 days. Remember it's not what you customers wants, it's what they're gonna get.
While this sounds Nice...
I rather have a Netflix App on my pc for that ala Hulu Beta... Not too fond of Win. Media Center. The Netflix logo sticks out like a sore thumb..lol
you guys are Pawns, all they did was fullscreen it and there's a link on the media center home, big deal. Just hit F11 in FireFox.. oohhhh ahhhh
it's all still html & silverlight behind the scenes, this is not going to affect your move experience whatsoever
How do I hit F11 with my remote control?
Nice. Netflix integration in Vista Media Center is already pretty good. Oh, and it's free (only need a netflix subscription), unlike on the Xbox360.
The 360 is free too... How many people do you know with an Xbox that don't have Live already? It's like $3 a month if you buy a 12+1 on sale... Can you buy a coffee for $3, let alone get it to last for a month???
@Mjayhunt: No, it's not free on the 360. If it's free, than silver accounts should be able to access it too. Are you drinking too much Microsoft koolaid?
caw caw caw caw caw
These screenshots really remind me of the Zune software... here's to wishing for integration.
That doesn't make sense. At some point they stop making major updates to outgoing OSs. Vista has a perfectly working Netflix. What's next, go back and add Netflix to XP MCE 2005?
Err, reply failure. This was supposed to be a reply to the comment that it wasn't fair that MS wasn't porting this to Vista.
I wish they would integrate Hulu with Media Center. I've been using Hulu desktop and it awesome. I works with my MC remote but not in a traditional sense. It's easy but would be a lot easier within MC and a lot more convenient,
I just installed RTM version of Window 7 Ultimate on my laptop but I don't have a TV tuner card. When I run the media center I don't see Netflix. Do I need to install the plugin or somehow activate it? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
