Hehe, and they say Americans are stupid.
I like the Nigerian version better... WWI just doesn't fit in too well.
Every time I hear him I say "I hear a rumor that you're making the PS3" I hear "PS Triple" instead of PS3 a la Chad Warden.
Did anyone else notice that the fat guy was wearing the three keyboard cat moon shirt?
Why take offense when it's true? Thieves get what they deserve.
edit: Forgot to mention I thought the commercial was funny too, but I guess that was because I had received mail/email like they had said so I knew what they were talking about.
how do they plan to sell a PSX, suppose nigeria becomes a prosperous gaming nation in a few years time ?
:P
That's how World War 1 got started?!
I think the Hungarians would like a word with Sony now.
i heard the WW1 ad first like 5 times, and then just heard the Nigerian scam one yesterday.
It's funny - Nigeria take slight at a reference to a well known internet scam and yet miss the larger claim that the PS3 "does everything".
Perhaps they should buy one and ask it stop all the pirates that operate out of their country. ;)
Actually... what am I doing here? I need to go buy one and get it to make me a billionaire playboy with a penchant for illicit French lithographs...
*they're. back to school, little thug. ;)
they're* my bad grammar police ... but inform yourself of whats going on tho ;] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGG9PEzkeiU
"This protest is brought to you by the Nigerian Department of Internet Scam Confirmation, a non-profit charity organisation. Donation is tax-deductible."
Of course they would be offended, SCEA is revealing their trade secrets to the world!! :D
You can't believe everything you read on the internet, otherwise Bluray would have won the format war.
Oh well.
The Nigerian scam persists even unto this day, and will continue to endure until greed is eradicated from the world.
In other words, until Hell freezes over...
Fact of the matter is that savvy entrepreneurs from all over the world enter the Nigerian markets with, say, $1 million, and emerge a few years later with $100 million and the authorities there scarcely bat an eyelid owing to institutionalised bribery and corruption in a country awash with petro-dollars. Imagine investing in the USA or France to that extent and trying to leave without the IRS, SEC and FBI being all over your business affairs like a pubic rash.... oh, wait... no, but seriously you get my point don't you? (You'd better if you intend to be a player in that cauldron of risk).
Word gets around, this promise of untold wealth for minimal investment is partly true, businessmen exist that can confirm this and they possibly exaggerate the situation. What they don't tell you is that the game is extremely risky and fraught with pitfalls and trapdoors, and not everyone you meet in Nigeria is who they say they are or capable of what they say they can achieve for you. But then, if you strike it lucky, hmmmm... paydirt!!!!
As the saying goes "the mother of fools is forever pregnant", and so the scam continues to net its willing victims, day in, week out.
I love Sony making fun of them selfs
Engadget, it seems as though you may have angered some real Nigerians. Be careful of the financial fallout since they are the main demographic to click-through banner ads for condensed ogbono soup.
Hi. My name's Nnamdi and I'm a 27 year old Nigerian residing in Nigeria. I'm also a brilliant illustrator and animator and I'm
currently working on my first production. In the meantime I produce storyboards and animated TV commercials for
ad agencies until, y'know, I get my big break.
My eyes are all teary right now cos I've read everyone's comments and the simple fact is that it's all true. The facts, the
accusations.. all of it. We've become known for a crime being committed by a tiny fraction of our population and the sad truth
is that my corrupt government no longer has the moral right to make them stand down.
I found the first ad really funny and laughed about it, but it kinda makes you feel like the poor kid at school when someone makes
a wisecrack about your family and foodstamps.. it's not your fault but it still hurts.
All I'll say is that a lot of you guys take the fact that you were born where you are for granted. You have no idea what being born
into a system that threatens to snuff the life and creativity out of you feels like. But people make their choices and some become
scammers, while some become entrepreneurs.. like me. And I can only hope that people like me win out in the end.
What can I say..? To everyone out there who's been had by Nigerian mail, we're sorry, and like the ad says.."don't believe
everything you read on the 'net".. cos we don't(They try to scam us as well...).
Finally, I've been a PS-addict since the mid-90s, along with my friends. I'm currently trying to finish the Call of Duty 4, I'm not finding the Need 4 Speed Carbon
as cool as I did the Underground (I dunno why) and I think Hijeo Kojima's MGS4 is the best game made in the past 10 years. Oh, and yeah.. the SF4 wasn't
all that.. seriously. :)
He's wearing a Three Keyboard Cat Moon shirt from Threadless.com!!
Awesome...
You got to understand Nigeria as being the internet hot bed of crooks.
That's where the bad people immigrate to to do internet scams. It's well known for phlishers and eEbay scammers. eBay really doesn't do anything major about it but they know the migrants from come to Nigeria for this reason.
There are other areas of Africa with wonderful people but this is the place where there are more bad genes and people who should not be breading. Sony knows this area and where the scammers IP addresses come out of.
If only those local Nigerian authorities were as keen to rid Nigeria of 419 scamers instead of having a tear at the rest of the world having a laugh at putting up with a problem every other country seems to have under control. Somehow I don't get the feeling that Nigeria gives a rats left one if its citizens bring money into the country using email tricks. Sony, don't change the add. After all, the only people in Nigeria who are going to afford to buy your console will most likely be 419 scammers anyway.
Not like Sony will sell a lot of PS3 units in Nigeria to begin with
The PS3 Slim is awesome , i just bought one today from gamestop and its perfect for me, i can't wait for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2!!!
First failed "First"-post.. yeah, I see that
