We don't see too many multitouch displays for desktop systems in these parts, but if Packard Bell has its way that's likely to change
tout de suite. Not only has the company just announced its
oneTwo line of all-in-one PCs with touchscreen displays at CEDIA, but now its back with the Viseo 200T Touch Edition -- a 20-inch multitouch monitor featuring built-in stereo speakers, a 16:9 aspect ratio, 50,000:1 contrast ratio, 5ms response time, and VGA and DVI input. When this thing hits Merry Olde England in mid-October, you can expect to pay roughly £200 (about $330) to take advantage of all that
Windows 7 multitouch magic. And, believe us, it is truly magical.
Remember how Packard Bell had to stop selling in the US because their reputation was so tarnished.
Whenever i read the name I "LOL"
Hahahaha
I read the title and thought "Packard Bell still exists?"
I used to run a computer store that did repair work etc. Ah the memory's... Packard Bell was the punch line of so many inside jokes and and... not so inside jokes to!! LOL Over a period of a few years I collected a few PB case badges from machines that had died etc and whenever one of the employs brought in one of there own machines to work on or upgrade I'd replace the case badge on there computer when they weren't looking. It's amazing how long it would take for some people to notice. And then the battle would begin again....
packard bell only rebrands.
Packard Bell is still around?
Did TigerDirect buy them out?
Acer did.
acer always owned them, i thought NEC bought them
Not to my knowledge. But i've been wrong before....once.
NEC and Packard Bell merged at one point and then someone else bought them. Can't remember who.
What is this, the 90s?
Am I the only one that thinks it would be ackward to use a touchscreen for input on a normal desktop? I see it's benefits for POS, or kiosk-use, but on a desk? I think this would give you full-blown carple-tunnel in about 5 minutes.
plus, smudges suck.
Yeah, I think it's a terrible idea. Unfortunately I'm willing to bet that it'll become the standard and everyone will complain about how uncomfortable it is to use and yet still buy them.
oneTwo? now all they need is #3 and they're out!
Third times a charm. ;-)
Somehow I see Microsoft going after Packard Bell because the name "Viseo" is too close to "Visio".
this is awesome man.......i can hook it up to my regular comp with windows seven and make it like a hp touch smart pc.I can use it as regular monitor for work or web but it'll be amazing when used with media center or xbmc.A amazing cheap and easy to use htpc
I have a better idea.......my video card has dual dvi output so i can hook the other cable to my hdtv and this monitor acts as a virtual remote for the bigger screen....its opens up so many possibilities.
Basing on the earlier conversions,if we get this in us for $200,i'll be waiting with an open check book. is
Packard Bell = Rip-off of Hewlett Packard and Dell
Viseo= rip off of Vizio
The name is actually really old, (older than H-P or Dell, though not Ma Bell) it was a radio manufacturer founded in the 1920s, and was one of the earliest computer manufacturers, it was acquired around 1980.
The modern company has no connection to the original Packard Bell, though, the current company bought the name later in the 1980s, and then proceeded to completely trash it's reputation.
I still have an old packard bell tube radio!:D
packardBell == crap;
Packard Bell = Satan's turds.
I think this will be kind of worthless to your average MS Office user, but for things like art and music production it would be sweet. I'm only concerned that the resolution of touch would be good enough for fine control of synth parameters.
