Video: Meizu M8 seemingly runs Android, definitely sets expectations too high
Ah, the Meizu M8. Undoubtedly the funnest smartphone ever to talk about, though based on shipping success rates, it's probably not the phone to order if you actually value the whole "getting what you paid for" thing. Dodgy ownership aside, we've been waiting for Google's own mobile operating system to splash down on the M8 since June, and if the video seen down there in the read link is to be believed, said scenario has finally become reality. All we're shown are a few swiping motions, but when you're talking Meizu, that's all you really need to believe.

you cant get it here doesn't mean people weren't buying it in real there. many people already bought and owned the device with CE(not the shrunk down winmo version as I heard), it has problems but it has exceptional screen and media playback capability. install android on it isn't a big deal. at least it's much better than instinct or instinct HD.
what was that description all about?? you can't bad mouth a company after theyve produced an mp3 player as good as the M6.
As for getting what you paid for, 385$ for an M8 on ebay sounds like a deal to me....
Sounds like a terrible deal for a phone without 3G support.
ahh ur right, the 3g version is to release march 2010 apparently.
Yep. Until then I just can't see the value in them.
But.. they have done very well for themselves. They are definitely taking a little more than inspiration from others but the product seems to have some nice specs and shows potential nonetheless. If they can do a 3G Android handset on the cheap, they might have some success.
Why SO much love for Android ?
Because it is SO lovable. Seriously though... Android is making a push this year. There is a lot of good press about it right now.
I'll be more impressed with the push, when battery life is better. Every one I've seen/used has been worse than the Pre, if used as an 'always on' device (which is how they advertise it).
The CLIQ may have a bigger battery than the HTC offerings, but with its even deeper social networking hooks, I suspect one will NEED it.
It's the little guy you want to love. It's a cool OS with awesome potential, it just needs better hardware in my opinion. I definitely see myself leaving the iPhone team and getting an Android phone in a few months, but none of the phones are really there yet...hoping the HTC HD rumors are true.
Half way through the M8's long development phase it had almost become a technical demonstration for Meizu, any units they sell should be considered bonuses. I bet by early 2009 Meizu have realized that at its current price point it stands no chance against more mature products on the market. Having said that, it's quite a achievement for a company one tenth the size of its competitors, and there is no doubt this whole thing gave them a rare chance of publicity. Let's hope Meizu continue to bring new products to market because competition is always welcome.
Priceless that it's on youku, very true to their counterfiete past
here's a youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4ZWlx8VRz0
The reason it's on Youku is because the Chinese govt has blocks set up on Youtube and some other video sharing sites. The company put in on youku so that it's target market (Chinese) can view it.
Their "counterfiete" past? Have you ever used a Meizu product? The M6 was the best DAP available in 2006/2007, bar NONE. It's only now that that other manufacturers like Cowon, Sony and Sandisk have matched it in terms of looks, codec support and pure sound quality. I suppose you're one of those types that instinctively types in 'KIRF FTL LOL" everytime Engadget posts about some Chinese brand without checking out their actual quality.
A device with enough community power to have OS ports for it is one device worth buying.
There should be a unicorn in that picture.
Android runs a lot smoother on there compared to up coming phones. I guess it isn't surprising with double cpu speeds of most phones. That pixel density is also a bonus.
ILLEGAL PHONE IS ILLEGAL
The bastards!

Not available? :(
btw, what the heck is Youku.com?

Now this raises my interest in the M8 again, though the lack of 3G and WiFi... but at 170 Euro for refurbished 8 GB unit... even the new Huawei U8220 can't beat that... (though it has better specs, apart from the screen...).
