Philips puts a touchpad on a mouse, laughs maniacally
Philips couldn't decide whether you asked for a Bluetooth mouse, a USB mouse, or a touchpad, so it Frankensteined all three together. What can we say about aptly named "Bluetooth notebook mouse SPM9800/10?" Well, if you need a Bluetooth mouse, you can use it like a Bluetooth mouse. If the juice runs out, plug it in via USB and you have a USB mouse and recharge the batteries. But the feature that most differentiates this from other, how we say, 'mash-ups,' is that the click wheel has been replaced with a 360°TouchControl sensor, which is essentially a touchpad on the top of the thing. That's right: lift this thing off the table and use the touchpad to move around on the screen. PowerPoint has never been this sexy! Hits the scene in select European markets soon for about $80.
Update: USB cable is for charging only. Odd, we know.

lol wtf...
this is funnny
schizophrenic, better left in the box
I've been waiting for somebody to do this.
The middle roll wheel is a bit too mechanical, which is fixed with touchpad. Now please add kinematic scrolling to touchpad. :)
yes, it looks like garbage.
logitech please.
Optical middle button with all-around scrolling has been in Genius Mice for a long long time. Is tha Sh1t!
This ain't that bomb of innovation but a good way of implementing existing tech together.
I'm strangely aroused
So does it hover, or is that orange bit a big bouncy spring thing on the bottom?
That's no hover pad or spring, it's where you roll up the USB cord if you're cool enough to have Bluetooth ;)
I thought Apple were supposed to be updating their Might Mouse to have a touchpad on top because the current one's scroll ball is sooooooo crap. I'm taking my Mighty Mouse back to Applestore this week to get my FOURTH due to the scrollball breaking.
I'm actually a big fan of the new Mac mice they have at my school. They look like a regular Mac mouse with the stupid 1 button, yet if you click on the right side, it works like a right click (My school is dumb enough to dual boot every computer in our school [which where all just updated to the new Mac desktops] with OS and Windows XP to make "integration easier".) and has a track ball (same size as a blackberry) in the middle that can scroll, move the mouse icon, and work as a middle click. I want one for my computer thats wireless.
dawg, I herd you like trackpads, so I put a trackpad in your mouse so you can macro while you macro
(really had to be done)
Philips, making technology that no-one wants for the past 100 years.
Well done, Templarian, well done...
I confess, I scrolled down to say the same thing.
So... The battery inside the mouse is not rechargeable? You'd think they'd put a rechargeable battery in there. Charge via USB. Ya know.
The specs say "Charging time: 4 hours". I can't imagine a mouse working for only 4 hours on 2 AAA batteries, so perhaps they're rechargeable AAA batteries? The details are a little fuzzy.
The battery is rechargable. This is a great idea, and pretty cheap too. I might just get one.
charging time 4 hours - says nothing about usage time - my Logitech MX last for about 5 day hard use before needing charging...
Bluetooth smleutooth.. my Logitech VX nano lasts 530 days on two AA-batteries (or so they say..)
Two AAA's in the VX Nano, actually. I know because I've only replaced mine once since I bought it... I love this mouse.
nice idea I suppose... but it looks like crap.
Agreed, I really don't see LG laughing near as much as everyone who sees you using this mouse will.
A co-worker has a mouse with the touchpad scroll wheel. I think it is RF but only cost $20.
Wacom needs to put this on the mice they include with their tablets.
No, I prefer the click feel of a wheel.
However they do need to fix the wheel system. The scroll wheel works for about a year, then it just spins freely. You have to take the thing apart and add a little Super Glue to the end of the Scroll Wheel axle that goes into the sensor. Then it will work again.
And a little texture on the wheel would be nice. The smooth wheel becomes "polished" and slippery after a while.
it wouldn't work because the optical sensor requires too much direct power... those mice on tablets are clever little RF induction devices that have almost no actual electronics inside.
@TavisJohn:
I wish I had the guts to do that.
Mine was almost useless when I decided not to use the thing as a mouse (though that happened after the pen failed and I had to replace it, which was a pita).
Looks like a cool idea at first but I can't really think about any useful application of the device right now :/
The brand "Genius" has put touchpads onto their mice before
(though uncommon, and I don't reside in the US)
no, no. i think you're more in need for those. we'll leave those celebrities to you :)
I don't get it. Why would an accordion and a mouse ever have sex to produce such hideous offspring...?
So true.
I thought it was half hovercraft to prevent carpal tunnel.
That's an $80 dollar waste if you ask me; looks more like an overpriced copper wire.
Targus did this some time ago.
Here is a review of said mouse
http://zollotech.com/content/targus-wireless-mouse-mac-review
Targus sucks
I was about to say the same, the Wireless Mouse for Mac and its Bluetooth twin. Though the Targus takes 2 AAs if I recall correctly.
Have used Targus mice in the past and they're not bad for the price.
So, the question is, Mighty Mouse user, ..are you willing to give up your side buttons for a scroll ball that doesn't crap out on you every three months?
yes i am
the mighty mouse is one of the worst items i have ever purchased, the scrollball craps out constantly and the side buttons are worthless anyway
Might also want to consider the Targus Wireless/Bluetooth Mouse for Mac. Has optical sensor in place of the scroll ball, and the side buttons have been paired together on the left (might be a prob for lefties).
Of course, TrackPoints (or ScrollPoints in this application) have been on mice for about 12 years, and trackballs have been on mice since at least 2005 (and I suspect longer.) So, why not a touchpad...
No_______ thanks!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
looks like something Apple would make
I actually really like the idea of this. Too bad it's so ugly.
That's actually... um... innovative? o.o'
My Gyration mouse has been able to lift off the table and still register due to the button on the bottom for years. Even though people stare at you trying to use your mouse like a wiimote...Actually works pretty well. Nice idea with the touchpad.
Man, you know what's sexier than Powerpoints with this? Logitech's MX AAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRR. That thing looks so awesome.
I never liked Philips.
Living color lamps - Ambilight tvs - Porn massagers - Out of their tree clothes irons even. They are the nuts.
Phillips are the new 70's Sony and 90's apple.
Laughs Maniacally? like huahuahuahuahuahuahuahahaha?... "it's alive it´s alive it´s alive" - Dr. Frankenphillips.
