Since I highly doubt you know what that means, PPI stands for pixels-per-inch, which determined the sharpness of the picture. The Zune HD is at 167PPI whereas the iPod Touch is at 163PPI, meaning images and everything else will look slightly sharper on the 'HD and slightly more pixelated on the Touch. Also, the Zune HD at 480x272 is the same resolution as the iPod touch but 16:9 widescreen vs. the completely random 3:2. Nothing uses 3:2, meaning any movies/videos you watch will be.... 480x272. Just worse quality 480x272 than on the HD. The more you know...
You're right on specs Mark, but wrong on gaming usability. Since this is a touch interface, the bigger the screen, the easier it is to operate. If you scale down the screen size, you cannot scale down your finger (which is already a clumsy input medium compared to a stylus, for example). Hence, the screen will look slightly sharper but because its smaller, that advantage is moot for games.
I think the gaming aspect is an add-on for Microsoft in this device. They were caught out by the iPod touch (seriously, who would have predicted Apple would market it as a gaming device but that's what a lot of people are using it for?). The next ZuneHD will very likely deal with this issue head-on.

Sorry, but the resolution of the Zune HD at only 480 x 272 is major suckage.
the HD has more PPI, ipod touch has less PPI. Its not always about resolution.
