EVGA's dual-LCD InterView display starts shipping

EVGA's unusual dual-LCD InterView display certainly isn't for everybody, but if you've got a desk-mate that you're constantly sharing a monitor with you'll no doubt be pleased to know that it's now finally available to order. Now selling for as low as $624.99 (or $640 list price), the monitor packs dual 17-inch LCDs that can either be used in a screen-spanning mode for an extra-wide 34-inch display, or be rotated and automatically reoriented for folks sitting across form each other. Unfortunately, each display packs a somewhat lackluster 1,440 x 990 resolution, and you'll of course have to make sure you have dual VGA or DVI inputs if you want to run it from a single computer. That'll no doubt be a small trade-off to some folks, however, especially considering there aren't exactly a ton of competitors to the InterView at the moment.

So.. other than the fact this is two screens on the same stand, whats the big deal? What does it do that I couldnt do with two separate screens and the OS?
They turn...
Oh well, thats ok then. For a moment I thought the whole thing pointless :)
Play a dope game of electronic battle ship.
First thought: LOL
^ I bet people are going to think this meant FIRST....
Or they gonna think YOU meant FIRST.
Second thought: Douche.
Third thought: ?
Fourth thought: Profit!!!
They couldn't design their wa around that chunk of metal and plastic that sits between the two screens. It's not exactly what you want in the center of your vision.
The bevel is distracting enough when two sceens are put together that thing is ugly.
Yes, form should follow function but it shouldn't trail it.
Beauty meets innovation, this is simply a superb device!
No
This is not beautiful nor usefull. You can buy 2 1680x1050 samsungs for 450$... They are adjustable in height and tilt.
This is a stupid product.
Wow, that looks.... terrible. 17"? Why even bother? I have two 24" monitors right now and I can't imagine going down to 17, even if they come with a neat stand. I just can't see the point of this.
And for the price of this you can almost get dual 24" monitors.
Just how did they even think that this thing might sell? I would probably die of laughter at anyone stupid enough to pay $640 for this thing.
This is for the enterprising webcam girl...service two at once. Ya....I'm a pervert so what.
I don't get the purpose of it if I want two displays I want some space between them.
1) I don't think you can call two 17" displays put next to each other a "thirty-four inch" display. To accomplish this, you would have to arrange four 17"ers in a square so that their diagonals line up, therefore justifying the "34"" screen claim.
2) No competitors? What would you call two identical $150 19" displays?
2) I call it a step in the right direction to two 24" displays - still far below $640
I agree with you, but technically, it still is 34". Look at 4:3, 16:9, and 16:10 monitors. With both aspect ratios, 17" is measured by the diagonal, and the screen area doesn't matter. Think of it as a 34" 32:10 monitor.
Nope, it'll only be around 30 inches (not including the fat bezel in between). You can figure this out with the help of my good friend, Pythagoras:
to find how many px/in for the diagonal of one monitor:
sqrt(1440^2 + 990^2) = 1747.484 pixels
1747.484pixesl/17in = 102.793 px/in
now for both:
sqrt((1440*2)^2 + 990^2) = 3045.406px
now divide this by our px/in constant we found:
3045.406px
--------------- = 29.63in
102.793px/in

I'm guessing Nick didn't do too great in geometry class.
That comment has more white in it than my local Starbucks.
The design needs some work. Those screens are way to far apart from each other. Those are pretty thick frames on the screens and then there is an extra bit in the middle. The idea is you want as little in between the screens as possible. If those were separate screens you could stagger them.
Am I the only one who reacted to the fact that those buttons, on the stand, look like something of a Guitar Hero instrument?
This is for dual aisle checkout stands and two-headed abomination niche demographic.
Dell has already done this with bigger screens and a lower price. And it has a better bezel in the middle.
Let's see, you can get a 17 inch monitor for a hundred bucks and an Ergotron triple screen mount for a few hundred last I checked - so for less than the price of this thing and a few moments of work to mount the screens you can get a more attractive and more useful multi-monitor setup going. I'm not feeling the urge to run out and by Evga, for some reason...
Dell 2009W 20" x2 = $410
Planar dual monitor stand = $150
Total = $560
This monitor seems like a solution in search of a problem. Sharing a monitor with a deskmate? Uhh get two monitors and put them back to back. Then no one has to work on a POS 17" monitor....
