It's been months since we've heard a peep from Voodoo or its swaggering founder,
Rahul Sood. Now it seems that one of
the changes headed to the Voodoo brand is no branding at all judging by the pics of this purported Envy 13 from parent company HP -- it steals both the name and size-indicative numbering from the
Voodoo Envy 133 without a hint to its heritage. The 13.1-inch laptop is said to run Windows 7 on an Intel chipset. Visually we can see a pair of USB jacks, HDMI, and trackpad that looks to be packing some special sauce. A peak at Sood's Twitter account calls Tuesday "D Day" with the promise of "new product coming out in September/October (ish)," that will make you, "the envy of all your friends." In other words, we expect to learn more tomorrow. Backside pic after the break, more over at
notebook italia.

kinda looks like a laptop or am I missing something.... (insert dry witicism here)
i pity the fool
What were you expecting? An ice cream truck?
Yeah, you're missing something.
It IS a laptop.
Looks like HP envies Mac.
More like Mac envies the Envy. But Apple will hopefully release somthing almost as good in the near future.
@Argot - yeah, Apple envies HP, that's why they sneakily released an identical looking laptop more than a year ago, and carved it out of solid aluminium to boot. You show 'em HP!
But unlike crapples POS this is actually something good.
If by "good" you mean "something you could have bought from Apple over a year ago" then yes, this is actually good.
@Argot
Don't be a troll. You don't even have specs on this thing -- how can you claim it's better than a 13" MBP?
is that a mac trackpad on there?
Nice try, but no. It's just a trackpad. No mention of any branding on said pad.
No you moron, there is a HDMI.
Hmm, if it has a decent graphics card I might get this instead of the Studio XPS 13.
where is the drive bay?
If this is a trickle-down of the Envy133, then there isn't one. The 133 came with an external, usb-connected unit.
The bigger question is if this also comes with the 133's unique power brick/lan jack. Really one of the more interesting ideas I've seen in laptops in the last couple of years and nobody else has picked up on it.
looks like a CULV machine with no optical drive..
Hmm... it kinda looks just like every other hp notebook (but slimmer). I think they completely lost the luxury feel of the Voodoo envy.
This thing is drop-dead sexy.
The Envy line has always been the best looking line of any manufacturers laptop division.
The Envy 133 is still the sexiest laptop ever made. Wish they wouldn't have changed it and just updated it's specs.
Looks thicker then the Macbook Pro 13" and it doesn't have a optical drive? Although I'm sure it'll be a better value, (more hardware for your dollar)
I hope they don't screw up pricing like Dell did with the Adamo, and charge more then everyone else in the industry including Sony and Apple.
It looks like a very nice machine, I hope it's a Core2Duo and not a CULV. I might sell my MBP and pick one of these up if it has a good video card.
I was thinking the same thing. I'm really liking Windows 7; enough to get rid of my 13" MBP. The CPU/GPU will make or break this thing for me.
And what does one need an optical drive for? The Envy 133 had an external one. The Apple Air also uses an external one and can use any on the same WifI network that it is connected.
I claim that optical drives in 2009 are like floppy drives in 2000. Just let go. You will feel better and thank me for it.
Why would you get this for Windows 7? Just install Windows 7 on your MBP...
"Looks thicker then the Macbook Pro 13" and it doesn't have a optical drive? "
This thing has a full Intel chipset: processor + northbridge + southbridge, and a dedicated GPU in addition to that. The Macbook only has a processor and an Nvidia northbridge. Half as many chips = smaller motherboard = room for an optical drive.
Yo, HP. Apple wants their laptop back.
yup......apple invented the black bezel around the screen /s
Although it does have a couple of features that might resemble a Macbook, it looks more like an oversized HP Mini to me.
The separated key design is actually taken from Sony, their Vaio line had them before Apple.
If it's got decent specs it could be a nice machine, macbook pro specs.
Looks surprisingly tasteful for an HP. Could be a decent MacBook competitor if the price is right.
I take it you're unfamiliar with the Envy line?
Yeah, they're pretty good looking, but I've never seen one in real life and I don't think they even sell them here so it doesn't count for much in my mind.
Wait, why is Apple making laptops for HP now?
also what i was thinking first
i guess you have to copy from the best,
Like Apple did with the iPhone when they stole the whole design from LG Prada? :)
Maybe Apple will add a HDMI port in their 2015 macbooks, they should put it right next to the SD card slots that was on the 07 - 08 macbooks.
@Argot
Last I checked, the Prada looks nothing like an iPhone at all. It's blocky with a plastic screen and black bezel. The iPhone has a glass screen, curves, a aluminum bezel, and completely different (and vastly superior) operating system.
You are right, they did copy from the best when they designed this machine...which is why it borrows so many design cues from the Voodoo Envy 133.
I may have sworn off HP-related products, but I'll give credit where credit is due: to Voodoo and their parent company, HP. They only way I can link Apple to this is that they are another company that does great design work, but will never see my money for so many other reasons.

Nice find!
Massive vent on the back, nice.
yeah heating was always am issue with HP laptops...
I think one of the cooler things is the Core i7 mentioned in the specs on the Envy 15...
Uh-oh...looks like a buttonless touchpad similar to that on the Dell latitude 11z. This could get ugly.
looks a lot like the current MBP's. and that's a good thing. is that a buttonless trackpad? this could be a winner. my biggest gripe with all computer makers other than apple is that they build cheap looking and feeling laptops. i'll take aluminum over plastic any day.
the italian website states 1.7 kg's for the 13" model. that's 3.75 lbs. if that's true i'll be super impressed.
At least it's not glossy on every surface like the Voodoo version was.
I've held it in my hands, and I must say its absolutely beautiful.
They made a full size ultra-capacity batteri that fits the entire bottom of the laptop and makes the bottom completely smooth. It adds a few mm's to the thickness of the laptop but adds a LOT of battery-time. I've heard 10+ hours of usage time!
Exibit 1: proof that not only macbook pro's can look cool. (Thinkpads are also cool because they are timeless classic). Eventhough that some design elements are borrowed I really appreciate it, with this one we even can go to starbucks to do some writings without appearing like a nerd on duty
