Finally!!! I've been waiting years for a PocketPC/WinMo device that has a faster processor than my 5 year old HP iPAQ hx4700 with a 624MHz processor. Even the iPhone didn't have this beat until the latest release. Where's Moore's Law when you need it!! This also has about the same size screen. Not too happy about the capacitive screen though as even my HP hx4700 worked well with stylus, finger or BT keyboard and mouse, BIC four color pen with the ball at the top or any other device I had around. I hope I can get the BT keyboard and mouse to work on this as that combination makes WinMo ROCK!
My thoughts exactly! My hx4700 is running WM 6.1 ROM but I lost all the kewl IPAQ apps and can use Money Mobile any more =(. My wonderful device is relegated to password storage and Outlook contacts backup... I might wait for OLED it looks nice on Zune HD which I hope to get with the Dell coupon.
I had a HP hx4700 as well, and was very pleased with it, especially since it has both a full SD card port and Compact flash port.
But the Hardware is very different.
The Processor used in the hx4700 may have been spec fast, but we know from many other processors that the raw Mhz spec speed does not make the difference. Also point to fact, the Iphone 3GS runs at about 624Mhz, just as the hx4700 did, but the processor is down clocked from a 800 mhz speed...to run cooler and use less battery. It is also known that the incorporated technologies allow the processor to run slower when not needed(using less battery) then spiking when a app demands more power. Older WM 2003 builds used to let you set the clock speed for your own usage, but now its become a "automatic" setting just as the atom processor is starting to do, since battery life is a focus on that processor as well, just as mobile phones are now trying to squeeze every last minute out of that battery like netbooks.
I'm not into the whole numbers game - I just want phones to run smoothly. That being said, you can't go wrong with that processor!
The phone itself is also aesthetically pleasing, minus the whole Windows 6.5 thing. I just didn't enjoy my experience with Windows Mobile 6. Nor did I enjoy BlackBerry OS 4.5 for that matter.
And no, I don't have an iPhone. I'm currently stuck with my BlackBerry 8830 after returning the Palm Pre. I will be the proud owner of a less-attractive HTC Hero when it is released on October 11.
I ROM my phones, you should try it too. My olde Tmobile Dash ran PERFECT on WM 6.1 ROM, soso on WM 6.5, still way better than offical WM 6.0 ROM (too lazy to downgrade). My new BB8900 of 1 week got OS 5.0.0.190 on its 2nd day. and the new unreleased OS kicks 4.6.1's ass (unless you need Facbook)
OKAY!
Now just give it an OLED screen to make the battery life better, and Android or Windows 7. GIMMIE!!!!!!
That said, I'm sure it's going to be outrageously expensive, and the current incarnation won't be released stateside.
Good things to come in 2010, though.
I want already sorry, Touch Pro 2....
I wish it had amoled screen like Omnia HD and Android with Capacitive Screen (Even if you think that resistitivive is better)
Oh, no! It has Capacitive touch screen! Finally, those stupid idiots realized that people want capacitive.
BTW, if it had qwerty slide keyboard, I pay 1000$
65536 colors! Bravo Microsoft. Starting 2010 with 65k colors. My old Siemens C65 had more 200k colors 5 years ago. This Pocket PC will cost over 900$ but will have only 65k colors. 65k colors! ^%K COLORS ZOMG!!
It's nice to see what we'll get on Verizon 2 years down the road. Thanks for the heads up!
With A Whopping 512MHz Processor!
No keyboard? No use.
no one is saying DO WANT?
wow mega phone :D now it just needs a better os hint at android and i will buy one i mean that kind of processing pwoer and a open source os ....WOW!
WinMo is easily as open as Android in its current incarnation.
WinMo can be modded almost inside-out at the moment.
I've never seen another mobile OS that has been as heavily customized as WinMo, nor for that matter had drivers written for it by community members as on WinMo, or had a registry that is hackable to the core.
Say what you will about WinMo, but to argue that it's not open enough is just foolish.
@windowsFTW
I cant reply to you so ill just leave this here.
It is not foolish, open source doesnt just mean customisable it means redistributable it means i can write my own os based on it and release it as an alternative for the phone.....throwing around accusations of foolishness with little understanding is more foolish than anything i said.
He didn't say it was open, he said it's just as open as android. Which is slightly true since my G1 doesn't take custom ROM's without flashing the hard-spl (just like WinMo phones).
Thank you for that Di3, someone here has reading comprehension skills at least.
And lost, I take it you are oblivious of custom ROM's then? Hard SPL flashes, rewriting of the radios, drivers, and tearing down the OS to its core and repackaging it?
Well, WinMo allows that level of repackaging too, and I wasn't merely referring to skinning when I said it was highly customizable.
WindowsFTW you are an arse! Who was the first to state anything about openness of code? i expressed a want for an open source os for reason i have otherwise explained. Maybe you should read the comments you are replying to instead of making irrelevant comments.
you might have some fanboyish (read childish) obsession, loyalty or invested interest in microsoft i dont know or care but the fact remains windows is a locked off os on all platforms android isnt.
Im sorry if thats not important for you but to some devs it is. Thats all that i was stating nothing about comparable openess nothing about the windows platform being bad....as a subjective opinion for me its better! if you need people to prefix everything they write with "in my opinion' maybe you need to take some lessons understanding
HOLY EFFING PFHIT!!!!
I WANT ONE..........
Give this to me with a hardware keyboard and I'm sold.
Does this have a physical QWERTY keyboard?
Will there be a version with a slide-out, landscape keyboard?
When will Sprint be getting this?
after the NUMEROUS HTC TP's hardware keyboard failures (look it up, ppcgeeks, xda, etc), i do not want a hardware keyboard. but since this has a large screen, does this mean htc may actually try capacitive screens over resistive (see htc hero resistive/capacitive reason)?
man i was going to swear that i would never buy another htc product but they named this one after me.. har har x_x
oh man i should totally read the specs before i ask questions. yes to capacitive.
This phones look great! I love the screen. I wonder how big it would be in my pocket though... Windows is ok, but I would prefer android with a glass capacitive screen... 4.3 inches might be overdoing it .. but hey... i want my android with a huge screen and VGA resolution for XMAS... and don't forget the processor 8-)
Oh my god! And I just recently bought Touch Diamond 2 nad I'm loving it. But this beast...?! o_O
Man! It makes me drool!
When is it coming out?! My precious!
This is why I am skipping the TP2 / Diamond 2.
Good news I just e-bayed my HTC G1 and pawned my wifes iphone 3g baby! Oh and a hint for you guys out there do not use this to snap a pic of Steve Jobs, because he may snatch it from you...
This is a sexy piece of hardware right there it takes me back the old Dell Axiom and HP PDAs... Large screen just touch input... It took long enought to circle back to that form factor. I would def consider this! So many sexy devices for 2010 finally with some real grunt behind them.
Um... I can has Android? This phone looks amazing, but it really needs a change of OS.
No it doesn't.
What is wrong with it's current OS?
needs a slide out keyboard
I'd love it if this came to ATT, but the goddamn Iphone effectively eliminates any possibilities of that occurring. Touchscreen device monopoly for the win...at least for Apple, not the consumers.
Android is a very nice interface. I enjoy the fact that it has .ogg capabilities, although I can't understand its dictator style sign up process! Other than that its nice so far, and pretty decent in what it offers. If comparing to say an iphone, i would say dont, they are both suitable for your needs, and as compared to a nokia n95 again why? they are different as pie and cake1
One, please. Flavor? Sprint CDMA. Thank you.
*flips wad of money*
now its time to invest in solar powered batteries!
Anyone else think its funny that the Touch Pro battery is at one bar and the Leo is plugged up?
Does that mean horrible battery life?
When will HTC start using 32 bit color screens, or is that a winmo constraint?
WinMo constraint.
They better lift this constraint when 6.5.1 comes out early next year (the last 6 WM before 7 everyone thinks).
That's sizzlin'!
dammmmm thats cuz i have a touch pro 2....it makes it look so tiny hehe..idk about u guys but ima look into the N900 !
Nice. Even though I hear it's not being released in the US. I hope that when WinMo 7 comes, we can have something like this here.
Would buy this in a heartbeat if I knew that MS could get an onscreen keyboard working as smoothly as Apple has with the iPhone.
Was considering trading up to TP-2 from my Tilt, but now I think I'll wait for this bad boy. The screen size is PERFECT for my phone/ PDA/ movieplayer needs!
AT&T I'm waiting on you!
Why did it have to be old outdated clunky Windows Mobile. I was really hoping for an Android game changer. Why can't anyone design a phone with ALL the features we want. 4.2 inch screen, slide out keyboard, video recording, mms, Android, capacitive multi-touch, 1GHz snapdragon or Tegra processor, great battery life, OLED screen, all in a nice tight, slim form factor. We can send a man on the moon but we can't design a thin phone with a slide out keyboard and all the right features? I'm tried of jumping from phone to phone trying to find that all inclusive phone. It seems for every 1 thing we gain, we lose 2. WebOS has potential but the Pre is sluggish in my opinion. And the apps are limited (homebrew or not). iPhone...been there done that. Apple and AT&T will no longer be butt raping me! Microsoft, too little too late and hell they still haven't released WinMo 7. Android I think is going to be the next big thing. Especially once they start to roll out these Android phones. But the HTC Hero and G1? Really? Ugh!! Ugly.
A beautiful phone, but it's way too big to carry around for me, the Touch Pro 2's screen is just right. Also, it has no physical keyboard, so this is no successor to the Touch Pro or Touch Pro 2.
What is this fascination that people have with Android? I had G1 for about 8 day and returned it. That's not to say it's a bad OS but at that time it was to immature to do the things that I needed and expected. I realize it has potential and it has improved but it just wasn't enough for me back then (around April)... I will try again, maybe a year down the line or so but I would really like to know what people are finding so wonderful about it right now. Can someone explain it?
65K colors is bad? is that because its running windows? can you all be certain that with a different OS that the colors could be 100+K?
