iTunes 9 breaking AirTunes connections?
Apple breaking support for third-party devices in iTunes may not have been all that unexpected, but you'd think it'd have support for its own products lined up before pushing a major update out the door -- especially something that it had already broken with the last major iTunes update. AirTunes users apparently aren't that lucky, however, as reports are now cropping up that iTunes 9 is breaking connections with the home audio streaming service left and right -- although at least a few people seem to be reporting only intermittent problems. No word from Apple itself just yet but, if the last go 'round is any indication, it should have a fix for the problem sooner or later. In the meantime, feel free to relay your tales of AirTunes woe in the comments.

Thats weird because I had problems with airtunes skipping unexpectedly on my xp box with 8.1.1 and I didnt change anything. Same exact setup worked while playing back itunes tracks on Mac. Tried upgrading to 8.2 but still nothing. Then I deleted my library file and recreated it after i rolled back to 8.1. I tested and everything was working. I upgraded to itunes 9 and everything is still working so I was broke before itunes 9 but I'm back in business!
Airport seems to be working fine - Bigger issue seems to be music library on a NAS :( iTunes seems to fall over every time it does its "Determining sound check" or gapless information.
I only have trouble when switching between wired and wireless connections. I like to plug in for larger Time Machine backups and I find that if I start streaming to AirTunes when connected to the wired network and then disconnect (while still connected to the wireless network) the AirPort Express vanishes from the remote speaker list in iTunes. Restarting iTunes gets it working again.
Going crazy here with Itunes 9 , os X 10.5.8, Airport express and a Toslink connection to my Onkyo tx sr503.
Spent the last 5 hours trying everything, the only thing I left out is a Brazilian Macumba...
HEEEELLLPPP.
:-(

A question for the tech savy, is a TOSLINK cable supposed to show any visible intermitting light when signal is passing through?
I have issues as well with the audio cutting out. Pain in the ass!!!
Still not fixed? Anyone have a solution?
My Airport Express and Remote app are both down since version 9 rolled out.
I am using iTunes 9.0.2 on an OS X 10.6 Mac. The update to 9.0.2 has left me without Air Tunes. The Airport utlity sees the Airport Express, Air Tunes was working under iTunes 9.0.1 just fine, and another computer still running iTunes 9.0.1 still can play to Air Tunes right now.
