GPS,
TomTom intros 5-inch XXL 530S and XXL 540S navigators
TomTom felt the need to out its new GO lineup at IFA earlier this month, but evidently these critters didn't quite make the cut. The new XXL range is comprised of the XXL 530S and XXL 540S (shown above), both of which pack 5-inch touchscreens and the outfit's own IQ Routes technology (which surveys a variety of factors in order to get you from point A to point B in the quickest fashion). Both units also include full maps of the US and Canada, Map Share, a 'Fold and Go' EasyPort mount and a refreshed user menu that we've been badly longing for. The 540S ups the ante with advanced lane guidance, maps of Mexico, a sleeker design and seven million POIs. Both PNDs should splash down next month in the US and Canada for $279.95 and $299.95, respectively.

bah humbug. don't care about gps object# 2,504,025. More info about sony X pls.
GPS units are a dime a dozen.
just trying out the new password
weird...can't see my comments
It's been tempting lately since my TomTom 700 is getting pretty long in the tooth now. But it works so it's hard to justify replacing it since the car mount doesn't suck like most of the recent TomTom models. The only annoying thing is that it takes a long time to get the satellites if I haven't used it for awhile.
it's a shame their map graphics look like some crappy 1984 Commodore 64 game...
I have to ask a generic TomTom question. Has anyone else found that TomTom's software on the device to be incredibly buggy?
I occasionally get a reboot after I'm powering the thing down (Twice a month usually for this.)
The device occasionally spontaneously reboots as it freezes while doing something (Once a month for this.)
The system won't turn on with the button so I need to hit the pinhole reset.
I have a TT 920T
Mine was a little wonky sometimes. Now the asshat that took it out of my car can have the same problems with it. I'm going for a garmin next gps.
plug it into your computer, load up tomtom home, and get the updates. this should fix most if not all of your problems.
I update on a weekly basis so that isn't the problem. :\
same here! mine actually freezes and reboot on a weekly bases. and i also update the device every week. but only seems to happens when paired to phone and accessing traffic data.
i have a tomtom go 730t
hopefully they'll put out an update soon!
Whoever started selling ultra-glossy tabletops about 15 months ago must be rich right now.
I regret so much I just bought a TT 730. Even with the constant updates, it doesn't hit one single house number. All of them are wrong by hundreds of feet. Everytime I get to a destination, I need to cancel the route manually.
I agree. TomTom force us to buy what they promote as 'new' maps, at the full price, for what are in fact minor updates and once we do, we find that barely any information has changed and we have no redress.
I will never buy another map from them.
I would start a "Enough with these GPS devices" group, but no one reads these posts.
I got a Tom Tom for Christmas a couple years ago and it has been indispensable since then. The directions are usually pretty accurate and I cant wait for the newest version to come out, because Im certain they will be much more complete.

Why can't someone make a gadget that has all it's edges flush with the edge of the frame (or just millimeters from it?
no gps unit should cost more than the price of a laptop
